Work Text:
In Khun's defense, his intent today was to just take Venice out (mostly so he could avoid Vegas' complaining, thank you very much!) to shop for some clothes due to the fact that the oldest member of the new generation was starting school soon, and therefore would need a lot of new outfits...
… well, if you asked this particular uncle of his.
Scoffing silently as he remembered his husband's grimace, the now oldest Theerapanyakun had been walking with his dear oldest nephew (he now had two! and a niece! so many outfits to buy and shop for but he couldn't be happier!) when Venice froze for a bit before running off, startling the entourage of bodyguards that were with them.
"VENICE THEERAPANYAKUN! Get back here!"
The old Khun would have never done what he did next - run ahead without protection. But that was the old Khun.
This new one was older, had a husband... and several babies to protect, even if he was starting to wish for one of his own, who he and Big could call their child... never mind that, he would discuss it with his husband later on, once he caught up with the little troublemaker and reminded him that he needed to be careful and not be so reckless, which with a child like Venice was... near impossible. The child was only an angel around his beloved Pete, it was at times like these that you could truly tell whose child he was...
"Venice?"
Khun lost his previous train of thought, his nephew's name barely leaving his lips as he watched the 5-year-old stand above a little girl, who seemed barely older than he is, busily crying while covered in dirt from head to toe, clearly having been here for far longer than a child her age should have been. Fighting back against the unwelcome memories seeing a child in such a state brought him, the older man carefully walked over, glancing at Venice.
"I assume you didn't make her cry, did you, dear nephew of mine?"
"Uncle, please!" the child actually pouted at him and Khun could have sworn - despite the fact it was impossible - that he inherited Pete's dimples, although his appeared mainly when he was grimacing or pouting rather than smiling. "She was already... crying?... by the time I found her!"
"I see..." carefully adjusting his cloak, Khun leaned in towards the girl. "Sweetheart? Can you tell me your name?"
The little girl - who seemed to have dark brown hair from what he could see - flinched, another whine barely held back as she seemed to slowly come to the conclusion that they wouldn't hurt her. The near silent noise didn't escape the older man's notice, having to briefly close his eyes before he did or said something he would regret - one thing he did know. Regardless of whatever Big was ready or not, he would be taking this little girl home with them, raising her as one of their own. It's what she deserves after a clearly rough start in life. And if someone came for them because of that?
Well, Khun would love to see them try.
"Alright, not that word then... is there something you would prefer instead?"
She seemed hesitant, as though she didn't know how to answer - or maybe even couldn't? - but it broke his heart nonetheless. Next to him, it was obvious that Venice was growing emotional as well, so he would have to finish things up fast before he had two upset children on his hands.
"How about... hmm... Dara? It means 'star', you shine brightly just like one!"
It wasn't even a lie, the little girl's - Dara's - eyes beginning to sparkle at the seeming idea of even having a name as she launched herself into Khun's arms, the older man quickly indicating for the bodyguards to escort Venice back, with the two of following in the middle. He would break later, where Dara couldn't see him, in Big's arms. Knowing that his husband would protect him, lend a listening ear, love him... just as he has done for the past five years. For now, he had a new family member to introduce.
Khun hummed as they walked, already thinking of ways to thank his nephew for finding his now daughter when he did, while they could still give her a great life.
He couldn't wait.
