Work Text:
“I’m sorry,” Jisung quietly mumbles. You almost didn’t hear him over the movie. You almost thought it was a voice actor in the background. Hell, if Jisung didn’t squeeze your arm, and turn further into your side as he said it, you would have thought he was asleep.
“You don’t have anything to be sorry about, Hanji.” You reassure him, gently stroking his hair with your free hand.
The two of you are sitting on Jisung’s bed, watching a show that both of you have seen a million times before. Something that neither of you have to really pay attention to. It's on for noise more than watching.
The two of you were supposed to go on a date. Jisung just came back from traveling the world, touring, and working on nonstop promotions. When he told you that he had an entire date planned at an amusement park, you were a little bit worried. It would have been fine if he had planned it a few weeks, maybe even a month after he got home. But he said that the two of you would go the day after he came home. You know your boyfriend well and you've been watching him from the sidelines of fan videos and whatever content the company put out. You've seen him slowly but surely being worn down mentally over the past few months. You didn't want him to overexert himself knowing how he can get anxious in crowded places and social situations.
Still, he insisted that you two meet up at his dorm and then head out together. When you got to his dorm, you could already tell that something was off about him. He was quieter than normal and not quite as excited to see you as you thought he would be after not seeing you for months. His eyes had a faraway stare like he was looking past you and you know he could barely hear you. You tried to convince him to stay home, but still, he kept trying to go out. The two of you made it as far as the bus stop before you felt him starting to shake beside you. You eventually put your foot down and dragged him back home.
"Yeah, but you were excited to go to Lotte World." He whispers.
"It's okay, we can go another time. Lotte World will still be there." You lay your hand on his lap, palm up, so he can take it.
"God," He groans, throwing his head back. "I fuck everything up. I just wanted to spend time with you and I can't even do that."
"Hey," you grab the remote and pause the show before turning your body towards him. "don't talk about my boyfriend like that."
"You should get a new boyfriend. One you don't have to take care of all the time."
You press your lips into a fine line as you study his face. His dark brown eyes are puffy and glassy as they stare deep into your eyes. The tip of his nose is also red. You know he's been silently crying for a little bit, probably stressing over the date. You've been wordlessly wiping his tears away for him or handing him tissues. The sight of him breaks your heart knowing how bad he feels about the sudden change of plans.
"I don't want a new boyfriend. I'm perfectly happy with the one I have now. And couples are supposed to take care of each other. It's 50/50."
"More like 90/10," He mumbles to himself.
"Hanji--"
Jisung lets out a frustrated groan. "I don't know why I feel like this."
"Jisung,"
"It's literally my job to go out and do these things and I can't even take you out on a freaking date? Pathetic,"
"Han Jisung,"
You cup Jisung’s face and force him to look at you. Really look at you. His head is heavy in your hands as he seems to just relax into your touch. Your thumbs gently stroke his cheeks, something he’s done for you more times than you can count to calm you down. Somehow, it’s slowly working for him. You can't help but push your thumbs into the soft skin of his cheeks.
"Stop playing with my cheeks like they're stress balls," He whines, chuckling a bit.
"It's de-stressing you a bit, you even cracked a small smile." You press a soft kiss into his forehead. "Hanji, you don't have to apologize for today okay? We can always go to the amusement park. I like spending quiet moments like this with you anyways. I'm just glad you're feeling a little better."
"Well, then tomorrow--"
"Let's just focus on today's date."
