Work Text:
Everybody in GMMTV loved Gun. That was no secret. Everybody babied him and that was a fact. Gun was GMMTV’s only male omega, which naturally led to much coddling from the multitude of betas and alphas working there. Even the female omegas joined in the merry band and could often be seen fusing over him. Gun was pretty, feisty, good-natured, cute, and energetic. The epitome of a perfect omega. His influence was widespread. What he wore was suddenly the last fashion trend. Anything he was spotted using, sold out in a mere few days.
“Gun is so pretty! The prettiest male omega I’ve ever seen. He’s so cute too! I just want to squish him.” People would often say.
However, what people didn’t know was that GMMTV had not just one, but two male omegas. This fact was something that even the people working in GMMTV itself were not aware of either. New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun, who was the exact opposite of Gun. New wasn’t small like Gun, nor was he as agile or speedy. He wasn’t always bouncing around and talking to people, and he was even physically bigger than most betas and even some alphas. Yet, despite all that, New was an omega too. But, he constantly used scent-blockers to hide his scent and took suppressants to drive off his heat. New had registered in GMMTV as a beta, and he was going to keep it that way. However, he would be lying if he said sometimes he didn’t wish that people would care for him like they cared for Gun. Biology was a bitch, his omega was a whiny little asshole.
It wasn’t that he didn’t love Gun like everyone else. No, in fact, if necessary, he would even die for the younger man. But some selfish part of him yearned to be in Gun’s place. Even Tay seemed to forget about him sometimes, in the flavour of petting Gun instead. New wasn’t Gun, and he would never be like him. And that was life, New just had to live with it.
…
“New, darling. Remember, never ever let anyone know you are an omega.” His mother would tell him, and young New never understood why. But as New grew older, he began to understand his mother. Society was often harsh to people who did not fit the so-called ‘norm’. He wasn’t petite like most omegas, and he definitely didn’t fit in as one either, most omegas assumed he was an alpha and often shied away from him. Instead, the majority of his friends were betas.
One day, someone on the playground approached him and asked out of curiosity, “Hey, you’re a beta right?” That day, New went home and cried to his mother.
“Why am I not like all those pretty omegas? Some boy assumed I was a beta today. Why do I look so different from normal omegas? There’s another boy omega in my class, his name is Moon. He is the prettiest little thing I’ve ever seen and all the alphas flock to him. Even my friend ditched me for him. What’s wrong with me?” New cried, as his mother rocked him back and forth. His mother would then say, “ New, baby. There’s nothing wrong with you and you are not abnormal at all. People only see what they want to see, baby. One day, you will find people who love you for you and not your secondary gender.”
As New grew up, so did his physique. He became stronger and in the process, grew to look less and less like an omega. New resented it. Why wasn’t he born as a beta? He looked like one. Acted like one. Heck, he had even begun passing off as one. It was just easier that way. No questions, no stares, no “What you are an omega? Why don’t you look like one?”. And New didn’t get it. Why did omegas have to look a certain way? Why did society peg all omegas to be smaller in stature and physically weaker? Why was it unacceptable for someone like him to be one? New didn’t understand.
Then, he decided to join GMMTV as an actor and live host. There, he met arguably the most gorgeous alpha he had ever seen. This alpha was tan, smiley, gentle, and funny. And yet, he was undeniably an alpha. Tay Tawan, what a fitting name for someone so sunny. New was smitten, how cruel this universe was. Someone like him did not deserve to coexist with a sun. But by some miracle, New was hired to work on a show with Tay. ‘Dark Blue Kiss’, a drama set in a universe where secondary genders were non-existent. “How nice it would be to live in this world.” New thought.
“New?” Tay asked.
“Hm?” He hummed in response.
“You’re a beta right?”
New stilled, a finger hovering over his Tsum Tsum game. He plastered a teasing grin on his face and nodded his head. “Why? Thought I was an omega?” Tay snorted and rolled his eyes in response. New tried not to let that sting.
…
“Shit, I’m late for School Rangers filming!” New yelled as he rushed up the stairs of the GMMTV building. He waved at some fans waiting outside the building and rushed up to the elevator. Today, School Rangers was scheduled to film at a campsite and he was supposed to get to GMMTV early to do his makeup, change, and get driven to the film site. The Ranger lineup of the day was, Off, Gun, Mond, Sing, Arm, Earth, Mix, First, Nicky, Leo, Tay, and him. The majority of them were betas, saved for alphas like Earth, Off, Tay, Mond, and of course the only omega, Gun.
In the makeup room, New was feeling a little hot and bothered. He squirmed as the stylist adjusted his collar and fixed a strand of hair on his head. The normally cool air-conditioned room was beginning to feel a little suffocating. “Probably because I slept late last night.” New reasoned. Or maybe the staff had a heater in the room he was not aware of. Anything was a possibility.
“New! Come on, Tay will meet us at the site! Everyone else has already reached the set.” A frazzled-looking P’Jack announced as he pulled New out of the makeup room and into a van. On the drive to the filming site, New dozed off in the car. “The air conditioner in the van doesn’t seem to be working either.”
…
“New! Finally! Come on, you are the last one, now we can start filming.” Arm declared as he threw an arm around New, leading him away from the van and towards the other rangers. The arm around his shoulder felt like a hot iron, and the heat from the sun felt overwhelming. Maybe he was sick after all.
“Hey, you smell something? Something smells like vanilla here. You know? ” Tay said, as he approached him. New frowned, he, in fact, did not know. What was Tay yapping about?
“Uh. I don’t smell anything?” New answered, a little bewildered, “Are you pranking me again?”
“No! Ask Off. He smells it too.”
“Sorry man, the only thing I can smell is Gun.” Off Jumpol sounded from where he was currently holding Gun hostage on his lap.
“Don’t be mean Papi. I smell it too.” Gun huffed as he playfully smacked Off in the head.
Just as New was about to answer, the camera crew announced that they were finally done with the setting up and filming was about to begin.
“Hello, and greetings! Welcome back to another episode of… School Rangers! Today, we will be testing and ranking the physical strength of all our rangers through a series of games right here at this campsite!”
“But Nong Gun has a height disadvantage.” Leo joked, queuing Gun to start pouting and declaring that he would win despite being vertically challenged. Whatever the next jab was, New did not hear. He was suddenly hyper-aware of the different scents floating off the other rangers, especially the alpha standing next to him. He could feel Tay’s eyes boring into him, watching him like a hawk. What was happening?
“Hey, no, seriously do none of you smell that?” Tay suddenly asked. The entire set froze. The scent of vanilla was now prominent in the air. New wasn’t stupid, by now he was aware that something was very, very wrong. Did his scent-blockers fail? Why? He took the required dose this morning. Yet, here he was, about to expose his deepest darkest secret in front of 11 of his friends and an entire camera crew. He could not stay any longer. New broke out into a run, ignoring the yells from the camera crew, P’jack, and the other rangers. But before he could stumble towards his van, someone was holding onto his wrist.
“Tay… let go.”
“Hin? What is happening? Why do you smell like an…”
New was tired, oh so tired of hiding. “Like an omega? Well maybe because I am one. Now please let go.” New said, sarcastically with much more bravado than he felt, as he attempted to rip his hand out of Tay’s grasp. His face turned a dangerous red. He faintly registered a collective gasp from the people surrounding him. What their expressions were he did not know, he was too busy studying the rocks on the ground. How desperately he wished for it to swallow him whole.
“What? How? Since when?” Tay whispered, as he unconsciously let out more of his pheromones. Pleased, his scent seemed to say. New let out an embarrassing purr and unwillingly swayed into the touch. Tay smelled like fresh laundry and sandalwood. New loved it, he was high on it. “Tay likes our scent”, his omega seemed to say, New couldn’t help but preen. “No, snap out of it New. Why would he like someone like us? Defective omega.” New snatched back his hand. Tay’s hand hovered awkwardly in front of him, every fibre of his being screamed at him to take the hand again, but New couldn’t. Shouldn’t. He couldn’t tie Tay down to him. What would people say?
“Since always. It was just easier to pass off as a beta anyway. I don’t exactly look like an omega. And none of you suspected otherwise either.” That came out more indignant than he had planned. It wasn’t anyone's fault that he was wrong. “I don’t know why you can smell me now. I’ve always been using scent-blockers. It must have failed today, I guess. I apologise.” New announced, way more calmly than he felt. His secret was out and he couldn’t tell what anyone was thinking. Were they angry? Were they shocked? Disgusted? Everyone had treated them as their friend and yet, he had lied to them. “Now if you’d excuse me, I don’t feel too well. Just film without me today.”
…
It had been a few days since his scent-blockers had failed, and he had been hiding out in his room. He hadn’t made any move to contact Tay, nor did Tay bother contacting him. He pretended that it did not hurt. Besides sending a quick message to P’Jack asking for a few days off, New had been roaming around his apartment and spending the days snuggled up in his makeshift nest of clothes and pillows. And if a hoodie from Tay had been added into the mix, no one had to know except New. Apparently, not only did his scent-blockers fail, but so did his suppressants and New’s heat hit him like a truck.
After an entire week of orgasm highs and needy whines for a certain alpha, New finally emerged from his nest. His head was pounding and his throat was parched. Hair messed up from his adventures, his entire apartment smelled like needy omega and New hated it. “Bloody omega tendencies.” He muttered as he made a quick call to P’Jack announcing his return the following day. He would just have to face the problem head-on, there was only so long one could stay hidden. He tried his best not to think about Tay.
…
New entered the GMMTV building and tried to ignore the concerned stares from the office employees. News of him being an omega had spread through the building like the plague, and by the eve of his little slip, everyone knew. He rushed past everyone and hurried up the stairs, choosing not to wait for the elevator.
“P’ New…”
“Sorry! Talk to you later, Mook!” He unceremonially yelled back.
Upon reaching his break room, New wiped his hands on his shirt. Deep breath in, and out. He had chosen not to continue using scent-blockers and suppressants, seeing as they were not effective anyway. New could smell Tay through the door and his heart began to race at the thought of the other male. Traitorous heart, no respect for its owner. To his surprise, the door to the break room swung open to reveal a red-faced Tay.
“Uh.” New very intelligently sounded. Tay looked at him and promptly grabbed his waist, pulling him inside the room.
…
Soft lips covered his and New’s eyes widened before relaxing into the kiss. Kissing Tay was like knowing all the secrets of the universe, their lips fitted together like a puzzle and New couldn’t help but let out a soft moan. Tay kissed him like New was everything he had ever wanted, and maybe he was. New kissed back with as much passion, years of pinning amounting up to this one kiss. When finally they pulled back for air, New couldn’t help but giggle. Tay in response pouted back at him, hands still firmly on his waist and neck.
“I wanted to go to you right after you left the School Rangers film site.” He said, “But P’Jack scolded me and forced me back to the set. Then the next day I wanted to see you but he said that I wasn’t allowed to.” New’s giggles dissolved into contagious laughter as he buried his face into Tay’s neck, smouldering himself in the scent of fresh laundry and sandalwood. And if Tay’s arms tightened around him and he too pushed his face into New’s neck, who was going to know?
…
“New! I heard you were back! Are you okay? Oh my god, so sorry. Carry on.” Gun yelled as he pushed Off out of the break room, softly closing the door behind him.
“What? Gun, I didn’t see them… why are you pushing me?” Off whined out in the hallway.
Tay lifted his head from where he had been drowning himself in the smell of vanilla cookies and signed, “You are perfect. Okay? I love you.”
“I love you more,” New replied voice muffled by Tay’s neck.
Perfect. He liked the sound of that as he tightened his hold on Tay’s neck.
…
Moments after that, everyone begins visiting their break room, simply to see New or hug him, maybe even to bring in small food offerings.
