Chapter Text
“That’s all for today! Good work, everyone!” called the instructor. You climbed out of the pool, running a hand through her wavy, grey-brown hair. It was such a nice day, she’d liked to have stayed in the water a little longer…as she grabs her towel, she notices Yohane on her way home, presumably from Aqours practice. “HEEEY! YOSHIKO-CHAN~!” …. “YOHANE-CHAN?~” . The fallen angel turns her head “oh, hi, You…you’re, um…wet. You’re gonna catch a cold! Foolish human.” “Ehehe, I just had practice with the swim team~” You continued drying her hair with her towel. “Say, wanna swim with me this weekend?” Yohane raises her eyebrows. “…here? Is that ok?” You nods. “Yeah, members of the swim team have a free pass for the pool!” Yohane shuffles awkwardly “i’ll..think about it. See you tomorrow”
-Yohane’s house, later that evening-
Yohane screamed into her pillow. She couldn’t swim. What had she signed up for?! It’s not like she could just tell You, what 16 year old couldn’t swim?! You was the last person she wanted to look stupid in front of. Yohane decides to text her: “Hi-sorry but I’m gonna have to pass on swimming, I haven’t live-streamed to my little demons for a while, I was planning on doing that this weekend (/ _ ; ) maybe another time?” It was a lame excuse, but anything was better than looking like an idiot, especially in front of her.
The next day, after school.
Yohane was watching You at swim practice. Suddenly, You’s face emerged from the water, and she gave Yohane an energetic wave, to which she sheepishly responded. A couple of minutes later, You got out of the pool and walked over to talk to Yohane. “Hey! Thanks for watching! Sure you’re not gonna swim with me this weekend?” Yohane looked at the ground. “I’m sorry…” “it’s ok! I don’t really understand algorithms and stuff, but you don’t have to by any means…actually, I was thinking: CAN you swim?” Yohane’s head snapped up at hearing the words she was so afraid of. “O-of course I can!” You grinned. “In that case…let’s hang out a little bit now! My curfew’s still a little while away, and there’s another bus!” You started to drag Yohane to the pool edge “Eh? I-um-well-“
SPLASH
Yohane barley had time to protest before she was in the pool. A dark, watery world enveloped her, crushing her throat, taking her vision. Her clothes grew heavy around her, and she felt herself sinking deeper and deeper into the blue. Time was an excruciating crawl, and a blanket of sleepiness enveloped her. Was this the end…? Oh…a hand…
Finally, coughing and gasping for breath, Yohane was back on dry land. You was looking over her anxiously, crying silent tears. “Are you ok? I-I’m so so sorry, that was so stupid of me…!” “I…” Yohane splutters “I-I’m…fine…it’s not your fault…I can’t…actually swim…” “Why did you tell me you could?” You hugs Yohane. “Yoshiko-chan…” “It’s…Yohane…” You pulls out of the hug, still holding Yohane’s shoulders. “Ok, this is my fault, so, as an apology, I’m gonna teach you to swim!” “Eh…?” Yohane was blushing. “N-no, it’s fine, really, I don’t need that…” “I won’t forgive myself otherwise! Please, Yoshi-…Yohane-chan?” Yohane sniffs, embarrassed. “A-alright then, I guess I have no choice…” You beams. “Yeah! I’m gonna make you the best swimmer ever, promise!” she salutes, grinning once more. Yohane smiles, rolling her eyes. Maybe this won’t be so bad. But for now, she needs a towel.
