The One With Valentine's Day
An Alternate Relationship Friends FanFiction
Notes: This one shot is set as a deleted scene at the end of The With Rachel’s Crush. It focuses on Chandler rebuilding his relationship with Kathy,
Chandler arrived back at apartment nineteen feeling dejected. He felt so angry that Kathy
was cheating on him with her co-star. He opened the refrigerator and pulled out a beer.
Once he opened it, he took a sip. Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t even see Rachel enter the apartment. She touched his shoulder gently.
“Honey, Ross just called and told me about your fight with Kathy. Are you all right?”
“What do you think?” He whispered.
Rachel’s arms opened and Chandler fell into them.
“I really thought she loved me.”
Rachel sighed. “Do you really think your relationship would have lasted? It almost destroyed your friendship with Joey.”
“I was really hoping we could work through all this cheating. I really did love her, Rachel.”
“Everything will be okay.”
Tears of dejected frustration fell down Chandler’s cheeks. He didn’t say anything. Rachel rubbed his back consolingly. “Did you want to sleep on the couch tonight? You shouldn’t be alone, especially if you’re drinking.”
Chandler nodded despite the fact that he had barely had a sip of his beer. “Thanks for looking out for me.”
The next morning, there was a knock at Monica and Rachel’s apartment door. It was Kathy.
Rachel opened the door. “I figured Chandler might be here.”
Chandler stood up and looked at Kathy awkwardly.
“Hey Kathy. I’m sorry about how upset I got last night.”
Kathy nodded slowly. “So am I, Chandler. Our feelings were justified. Don’t you agree?”
Chandler nodded. “Of course.”
Kathy opened her arms and Chandler fell into them, openly weeping.
“I had plans for Valentine's Day and now they won’t be happening.” Chandler said through his tears.
Kathy stroked his hair back from his forehead gently kissing it.
“Sweetheart, I think our relationship needs work just because we are still hurting from all the cheating that happened.”
Chandler nodded. “Can we still be friends?”
Kathy gently squeezed his hand. “I’d really like that. How about we go out for brunch on Sunday?”
Chandler smiled through his tears. “Is 11:15 good?”
Kathy nodded. “It’s a date.”
Chandler returned Kathy’s kiss. “Can’t wait.”
“Oh before I go, can I ask you something else?”
Chandler nodded. “Sure thing.”
Kathy cleared her throat. “I think you, Joey, and I should all go to relationship counseling. I know how much what happened between us affected him, and it might make it difficult for us to stay friends..”
Chandler smiled. “That’s a really great idea. I’ll talk to him about what day would work for an appointment.
“See on Sunday Chandler. I love you.”
Chandler’s heart was overflowing. “I love you too, Kathy.”
