The Birthday Bombshell
Set at the end of The One With The Two Parties.
At the end of Rachel’s birthday party Sandra Green tells Monica that Rachel is her half sister
As the last party guest left Monica and Rachel’s apartment Sandra Green hung behind to help Monica clean up.
“I wanted to thank you for everything you did for Rachel. You made her birthday truly special in spite of how difficult our divorce has been on her.”
Monica smiled at the woman who had been a second mother to her her entire life. “You’re welcome, Mrs. Green.”
“I’m so proud of you. You’ve grown up into such an accomplished young woman.”
Monica was taken aback. Sandra Green had never said this to her before. Neither had her own mother. “Thank you.”
“Little Harmonica.” She murmured
“My father calls me that.”
Tears sprang to Mrs. Green’s eyes. “I know, baby girl. I helped raise you.”
Monica’s face screwed up in confusion. “I don’t understand.”
She took her hand and led Monica over to the couch. “I need to tell you something about your conception.”
“What’s going on?”
She exhaled. “ Your mother has alluded to being left at the alter, correct?”
Monica covered her face. “ She never lets me forget it.”
“Believe me, I know. I have not forgotten it either.”
Monica raised her eyes up to look at Sandra Green. “What are you trying to tell me?”
She took her hand gently. “Monica Eliza Gellar, my husband was your mother’s affair partner.”
“That’s not possible.”
She took her hand gently. “Trust me, my love.”
“How have you been able to live with him all this time?
“Believe me, I wondered the same thing for 26 years. I was furious when he told me he abandoned you & your mother.”
“That’s why my mother hates me and loves Ross so much. I was never her child in the first place.”
Sandra nodded. “I always resented him for how he treated Judy and left you behind. When he told me that I was disgusted.”
Monica burst into tears.
“Sweetheart, your father and I love you so fiercely. Never forget that.”
“Of all days, why tell me this on Rachel’s birthday?”
Sandra squeezed Monica’s shoulder. “Your father kicked Judy out when he found out about the affair. I moved in with him. We fell in love and married that September. Rachel was born on February 11th. She’s your half sister.”
Monica’s tears lessened. “So you’re my stepmother?”
Sandra nodded. “Yes I am.”
Monica instantly recoiled at the thought of Rachel and Ross being intimate. “Ew….”
“I have a feeling that reaction is because of Ross and Rachel’s current relationship.” Sandra said.
She was shaking “Ross has had a crush on Rachel for almost a decade Mrs. Green. They shouldn’t be dating if they are half siblings.”
Sandra patted Monica’s arm gently. “Your father and I feel the same way sweetheart.”
“Shouldn’t we talk to them about this?”
“Yes, we should.”
“Do Amy and Jill know that they are related to Ross and me?”
“Yes, they do. Amy will be a lot less hard on you. I know she hasn’t been too kind to you in the past.”
Monica leaned against Sandra Green’s shoulder. “I love you, Mommy.”
Sandra kissed her daughter’s forehead gently. “I have waited so long to hear you say that. I love you too, Monica.”
“Are you and Daddy going to get married?”
“Yes, we are. This divorce should have happened a long time ago so I could’ve gotten full custody of you. Judy has been absolutely horrible to you. She did not deserve you.”
