Work Text:

Enough had happened. The First Doctor and his beloved finally had a moment of peace to themselves, and the First Doctor was going to absolutely relish it. After all the running and the hustling and the bustling, goodness knows they both needed this break.

“A sleepover!” The First Doctor proposed aloud, standing with Oscar in his TARDIS.

“Huh?” Oscar tilted his head in confusion. “But we sleep here every night!”

The First Doctor clicked his tongue. “Tsk tsk tsk. You don’t understand, my dear boy! I mean a proper sleepover! With blankets, snacks, and lots of pillows! Perhaps even a movie, hmm?”

“Ohhh!” Oscar’s eyes widened with realization. Then he began to beam. “Yes!! Yes that’s a wonderful idea!”

“Splendid! Hm-hm!” The Doctor giggled excitedly. “Then it shall be done. Now come and help me fetch the spare blankets. Come, come.” The Doctor was quick to head towards one of the TARDIS’ storage holds, and Oscar was quick to do as he’s told and hop along after him.

It didn’t take the pair very long to cover the TARDIS floor in blankets, pillows, and even a number of Oscar’s stuffed animals were thrown about.

And by this time, the pair had also changed into their comfortable pajamas, with cozy socks to boot. The assorted colors of blankets and pillows painted the TARDIS floor. Everything was colorful and everything was comfy.

“Alright!” Oscar smiled at what had been done. “Now we only need one more thing.”

“And what is that, hmm?” The Doctor responded.

“A mattress! As comfy as these blankets are, we can’t sleep on the floor. My back wouldn’t like it very much.” Oscar chuckled dryly at his own statement.

“Oh nonsense, nonsense. We’ll get to that later, my boy.”

“But we-“

“Oh hush! We’ll do that later, I said. Now come along. I’ve got something to show you.” The Doctor said, with a fairly serious disposition.

“Oh?” Oscar wondered aloud, following behind as the Doctor led him across their field of fluffy colors.

Once they walked a few steps, the Doctor then bent over, inspecting a pillow on the ground. “It’s right under here…” He uttered to himself. In one swift moment, he scooped up the pillow and…

Pomf!

He flung it right onto Oscar’s chest. He aimed for the chest because he didn’t want to frighten his easily-startled rabbit companion and run the risk of making him cry, but a soft blow to the chest was just the spark he needed to catch Oscar off guard, and initiate a fight. A fight that he’s been growing ever impatient of having.

He couldn’t hide the mischievous smirk that slithered onto his face as Oscar took a moment to register what had just happened.

“Oh, you little-!!” Oscar cut himself off as the fighting spirit had just been initiated in him. He frantically looked around for the closest pillow, and the Doctor took the opportunity to whap Oscar with his pillow again, this time across the back.

The Doctor laughed proudly at his own attack. Oscar dove to the ground, snatching a pillow in his paws as he slid across the blankets. He then turned over onto his back, waving his pillow at the Doctor with the declaration of war, “Come at me!!”

“Ohoho!” The Doctor laughed. “Come at you I shall!”

The two clashed pillows, with the Doctor having the high ground. Oscar realized his disadvantage and propped himself up, getting a blow right to the Doctor’s face. The Doctor laughed loudly at the feeling of the soft pillow hitting his cheek. He also laughed at Oscar’s fighting spirit. He knew the bunny had it in him, he just had to be provoked. And that was the Doctor’s favorite thing to do to him.

But the Doctor wasn’t going to let Oscar win so easily. He did start this whole sleepover to get his playful fighting spirit burning, after all. He relished this fight. Being able to tussle with his beloved without anyone getting hurt, and for it to fill his beloved TARDIS console room with laughter and energy… he had been looking forward to it very much.

With both of them having even ground, the Doctor was quick to regain his advantage. He lunged his pillow towards Oscar, but his foot got caught on a stray plushie, and he tripped forwards. “Aah!” Oscar exclaimed, falling backwards onto a pillow as the Doctor’s own flew out of his arms. As they landed, the Doctor caught himself before hitting the ground, so he wouldn’t hurt Oscar with a slam of his body. But the Doctor’s newfound position had Oscar pinned to the ground.

They both blinked in surprise. It had all happened so fast and they needed a moment to breathe and to register what just happened. As they both realized the positions they were in, they both started to laugh. Oscar was already blushing from the exhilaration of the pillow fight, so his newfound embarrassment kept his face a shade of red. Stray feathers from the beaten pillows floated in the air around them as the Doctor admired his view of his beloved below him.

“My dear boy…” The Doctor began. He wore a mischievous, satisfied smile. “You look quite ravishing from up here.” He giggled.

Oscar’s face was quick to scrunch up, as it always did when he got flustered. “Gosh…” That’s all that Oscar could get out as he squirmed under the shadow of his beloved Doctor.

There was a moment of silence. The two were at a standstill as they took in the view of each other from angles they didn’t experience each other in often. The mischief in the Doctor left him, as the feeling turned into adoration.

From the Doctor’s point of view, laid below him was his shy, endearing partner, who was currently fiddling with his paws as a nervous habit. The Doctor had always known of the man’s anxiety, for it was quite severe, and it was the main reason for his hesitation at joining the Doctor on his adventures. Oscar never considered himself a “companion” of the Doctor’s, just a romantic partner and a friend. But the Doctor knew better. Oscar just needed someone to be there for him. Someone to hold his paw when things got scary. A comforting presence he always felt ashamed of asking the Doctor to provide. But it was never, ever an issue to the Doctor. Not even a passing thought of annoyance of any kind. Some positive reassurance and a hand to hold always summoned the courage in Oscar that the Doctor knew he had in him all along. The Doctor had considered himself to be merely a “silly old buffer,” so for him to be the one to summon the needed courage in an incredibly anxious man made him feel immeasurably needed. So, with Oscar’s constant nervousness of everything, the Doctor was always very happy when he could have days like these with his beloved. Days where they could tussle, they could laugh, and where Oscar didn’t have to worry about a damned thing. No regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Only the love they shared for each other.

And from Oscar’s point of view, the Time Lord who was propped above him was a savior. Oscar had never known what to make of himself. His reservations had always stirred frustration in other people, and his odd mannerisms and general skittish nature tended to not be received well. And besides, he had a lonely heart, with a particular need of physical affection that was not provided to him. So the presence of the First Doctor was absolutely life-changing to him. To be able to look up right now at the person who has accepted him for who he is, who doesn’t see him as a burden or as something to get upset over, who always shows his affection with pats on the head or hugs around the waist… It made Oscar feel so lucky. So immeasurably lucky and grateful to be lovingly gazed at by a person who took no issue with him. The Doctor filled the hole in Oscar’s heart so well, and he could hardly believe the current moment. The Doctor’s affections tended to catch Oscar off guard, even though they had been together for well over a year now. Oscar looked up at the person who truly, truly loved him. All of him. And he couldn’t believe his eyes. Oscar got a bit lost in the moment, staring up at the Doctor’s face… he could see the universes they’ve traveled across in those eyes. He could see the fun and excitement they shared in that smile. And as he heard the Doctor softly giggle, he could feel the love swell up in his heart.

And the love swelled up in the Doctor’s hearts, too.

“Beautiful boy.” The Doctor leaned down and kissed Oscar’s forehead.

Without thinking, Oscar impulsively wrapped his paws around the Doctor’s waist and pulled him towards himself, resulting in the Doctor laying atop Oscar’s chest. It was a comforting weight. It caught the Doctor off guard which allowed Oscar to hear that lovely laughter of the Doctor’s.

“Where would I be without you?” The Doctor wondered aloud, lost in Oscar’s dark eyes that never failed to remind him of the vastness of familiar and unfamiliar galaxies.

Oscar took one paw to the Doctor’s head, running his digits along the Doctor’s cheekbones and jawline. He deflected the Doctor’s question with the same one. “Where would I be without you?”

This caused the Doctor to reach backwards and struggle with his fingers until he grasped the corner of a pillow. He swung it up and- pomf!

“Don’t you deflect my questions, dear boy!” He exclaimed with a smile. Oscar started laughing. “Oh you’re gonna get it!” Oscar said, using his weight to flip the Doctor over. The Doctor wasn’t going to let Oscar take his position, so he flipped their bodies over once more, before they collided with the underside of the TARDIS console at the center of the room.

The surprise of that made them both burst into laughter.

“Ohhh… are you alright, my dear?” It wasn’t a tough collision they made, but the Doctor knew his beloved was sensitive and he just wanted to make sure.

Oscar was touched by his concern. As he always was. Such a considerate soul, the Doctor was. It served as a reminder to Oscar that no matter how “little” something may seem to other people, if it mattered to him, it mattered to the Doctor. And it took no time for Oscar to be painted with a smile of adoration once more. “Yeah. I’m alright.”

“Good, good.” The Doctor chuckled. “Well then, hmm…”

“...should we get the mattresses out now?” Oscar suggested.

“Hm? …Oh, ah, yes. Lets.” The Doctor untangled his body from Oscar’s, and crawled out from under the TARDIS console. “Be careful.” He said, pointing up at the console and reminding Oscar not to hit his head on the way up. Then he dusted himself off and made his way to the TARDIS’ storage hold once more.

Oscar nodded in acknowledgement as he got up, and hopped behind the Doctor once more. The pair knew they were in for the best night's sleep they’ve had in a long time.
