Work Text:

Robin looks up at Steve with wide, pleading eyes, her lip jutting out as pulls the kitten up to squish against her cheek.

Steve’s face crunches in disgust. “Robin, don’t! It’s dirty. ”

Robin’s jaw drops and she presses a kiss to the kitten, murmuring to the fluff ball like Steve personally offended it. “Don’t listen to him. You’re beautiful. Such a sweet baby.”

The kitten’s purrs ring out around them and its eyes slip closed as it basks in Robin’s attention. Steve rolls his eyes, his hands landing on his hips. “We are not keeping that thing.”

Robin turns her pleading gaze back on him. “She needs a family, Steve.”

Steve shifts his weight onto one hip, his arms crossing over his chest. “Robin. Come on. You found it in the dumpster.

Robin whisper-yells at him, trying to keep the kitten calm. “Exactly, Steve. She was in the dumpster. She needs a home.

Steve sighs, scrubbing his hands over his face, his resolve crumbling. “It gets a bath as soon as we get home, Robs. I’m serious.”

Robin squeals, jumping up from where she’s been sitting on the ground in the grimey parking lot. She surges forward, throwing an arm around Steve’s neck and plastering her lips against his cheek. Steve groans, pulling back as far as he can to put distance between him and the filthy cat in Robin’s arms.

They make their way over to Steve’s car and he sighs heavily as they climb in, Robin talking sweetly to the ball of fluff in her lap. “Okay, what’s her name then?”

Robin hums, scratching behind the kitten’s ear. She looks over at him with a huge grin on her face and very confidently declares the sweet, tiny creature’s name to be: “ Trash.”

Steve’s brow furrows. “You want to name her Trash? Robin, that’s terrible.”

Robin coos, scratching under the kitten’s chin, her purr growing stronger. “But she’s our pretty little trash baby! Isn’t that right, Trash?”

Steve shakes his head. “I can’t believe you want to call her Trash.”

Robin huffs out a laugh. “Eddie will love it.”

Steve sighs. “Yeah, you’re right.” He reaches over, rubbing a single finger on the kitten’s head. “Welcome to the family, Trash.”
