Work Text:
Robin steps through the front door, her hands full and mouth moving fast. “STEVEN! HELP!” She shuffles in, trying to balance a cake and grocery bag full of cheese and crackers in one hand, and a couple wine bottles in the other, but she can feel one of them trying to slip from her grasp. “Help, help, help!” She hurries into the kitchen, almost making it to the counter before the bottle finally slips and hits the floor with a loud crash as it breaks, the wine exploding all over the floor, the side of the counter, and her. “FUCK!”
Robin looks up, staring open mouthed at Steve’s back where he’s working at the stove. She sighs, shaking her head as she tiptoes her way out of the disaster at her feet. She sets the rest of her haul on the counter and makes her way over to him, tapping him on the shoulder. Steve jumps with a gasp, turning quickly with a hand pressed to his chest and wide eyes.
He huffs out a relieved laugh, talking way too loudly for how close they are. “Fuck, Robs. You scared me! I didn’t hear you come in.”
Robin scoffs and nods, pointing to her ears. “WHERE ARE YOUR HEARING AIDS, DINGUS?”
Steve rolls his eyes, reaching up to feel his ears, his face dropping when he finds them empty. He glances back at her sheepishly with a shrug, his voice a little lower. “I guess I forgot to put them in after my nap. Hang on I’ll go get–” He goes to head out of the kitchen, freezing when he sees the huge mess on the floor. “What the hell happened!?”
Robin taps his shoulder again, gesturing to her ruined outfit. “I CALLED FOR HELP!”
Steve sighs, his hands landing on his hips. “Well, shit.”
The front door opens, and Robin can hear Eddie making his way to the kitchen before he comes into view at the door, eyes flicking over the puddle of wine at his feet. “Started the party without me, I see.”
Robin gestures to Steve. “Someone didn’t have his ears in.”
Eddie flashes Steve a smile dripping with adoration and shakes his head, popping back out of the room. Robin can hear him on the stairs, up then down, and then he’s back in the doorway, carefully making his way over to Steve and holding his hearing aids out to him. Steve grins and presses his lips to Eddie’s, slipping his hearing aids in.
Robin rolls her eyes and grabs some cleaning supplies from under the sink. She goes to kneel down and start cleaning the wine up but Steve shakes his head, stepping in to take over for her. “Your bad knee, babe.”
Eddie cackles behind them. “You two are really making me feel better about turning fifty today, let me tell you.”
Steve and Robin both turn to glare at him, and Robin flips him off.
Eddie gasps. “Thank you for the sweet sentiment on my birthday, Birdie.”
