Chapter 1: The Multiversal Morphing Grid
Chapter Text
The Grid. Or better known as the Morphing Grid.
A concept that is not vague to those who are aware of its presence. It is known as the power source to some of Earth’s strongest warriors: the Power Rangers.
However, the Grid is not linked to one reality however.
It links to multiple dimensions, all with their own Rangers.
The Power Rangers are a formidable force, designed for good. The most infamous universe is known as the Alpha or Prime Universe, home to the legendary sage Zordon, who created a legacy of Power Rangers that defend the universe from evil-does all over. During the United Alliance of Evil, Zordon sacrificed himself and created the phenomenon of the Z-wave that washed Dark Spectre and his alliance away while purging those of evil and gave them a second chance at life. His legacy continued to live on in the hearts of future Power Rangers from there on.
Another dimension created Power Rangers from a cybernetic threat known as Venjix, who nearly destroyed Earth if it wasn’t for the RPM Rangers. The world was able to recover from the virus and thrive once again.
Then there is one, home to the Energems which housed the spirit of dinosaurs. The Power Rangers team of this timeline defended them from a horde of greedy aliens led by Sledge.
However, in some universes, not all Power Ranger teams are formidable.
In one particular universe, known as the World of the Coinless, lives a fallen Power Ranger by the name of Lord Drakkon. He is nothing more than a tyrant and created an army of Ranger sentries that carry out his bidding. This fallen Ranger’s true identity is the one known as Tommy Oliver, a Legendary Ranger who has donned several different colors over his years in the Alpha Universe. Lord Drakkon ended up betraying his mistress Rita Repulsa and served under Lord Zedd.
Thanks to the Grid’s expansion, different Rangers have been created to fight battles of evil across the multiverse.
Different holes of various realities are opened and several images of said realities are shown.
The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are joined with an orange and purple ranger.
Casey Rhodes looks up in awe of the Red Lion Wildzord as he arrives on Animaria for the first time. The Yellow Cheetah Wildzord and Blue Jaguar Wildzord join the lion and the three big cats roar.
Cole Evans puts on a pair of red sunglasses and shouts, “Jungle Beast! Spirit Unleashed!” Through a series of hand movements, an apparition of a red lion is launched before covering its summoner.
Blake Bradley and Hunter Bradley combined their Thunder ninja skills with the power of Ninjetti.
Captain Mitchell looks to a confined Zordon in a secret room in the Aquabase.
Tommy Oliver opens a briefcase and presents the red, pink, black, blue, and green Energems to Tyler, Shelby, Chase, Koda, and Riley respectively.
A genderbent version of the first Power Rangers battles a Titan with silver armor. From the Moon Base, Rito Repulsa cackles deviously.
The Green Morphin Master appears before Andrew Hartford as the archaeologist discovers the Corona Aurora.
Keeper entrusts the red, blue, and yellow Dino Gems to Conner McKnight, Ethan James, and Kira Ford respectively.
Blaze and Roxy wield Beast X-Morphers and become the Green and Pink Grid Battleforce Rangers respectively. They leap into action to battle their evil avatar counterparts.
Kimberly Hart drives past a sign that says 'Welcome to Reefside!'
These are just a fraction of the stories that can be found across the Grid’s multiverse. Each one is just as unique.
Have you ever wondered what would happen, if certain events occurred? How would it affect the timeline? The story? The planet? Or even the universe?
I am a mere celestial being who watches over all these realities. Allow me to be your guide.
All of these can be answered as you ponder a simple question…
What if?
Chapter 2: What If... There Were More Power Coins?
Notes:
A/N: After months, I finally got the first AU out of the way. Sorry for the delay but as you can see, I have not given up on this story. Like I said, it will take some time, plus I've been working on some future chapters here and there.
R&R, no flames please.
Chapter Text
In most universes, there are only a total of five Power Coins, created by Ninjor and gifted from Zordon to the first ever human rangers of Earth: the Mastodon, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, Sabertooth Tiger, and Tyrannosaurus.
Down the line, Rita Repulsa used her magic to manipulate her own Power Ranger with the lost Power Coin of the Dragonzord but eventually her own Ranger became a force of good. This Power Coin eventually lost its power and the bearer would later use the Tigerzord during Lord Zedd's time.
However, in some timelines there are more than just the six. Such as this universe…
Up on the Moon Palace, Rita Repulsa saw the latest monster go up in smoke thanks to the Power Rangers -or meddling power fools in her words. She growled, "Why can't they just ever go about a normal day and not attack my monsters?!"
"I thought you sent that one to destroy the Power Rangers?" Squatt asked.
"It's a rhetorical question you buffon!" Rita shrieked and fired a blast of magic at the one of her two dim-witted minions. She had grown infuriated with the failures of her lead scientist.
"You will surely get them next my empress. Let me crush the rangers in your name!" Goldar roared, wanting another battle with them.
"No!" Rita shouted, still throwing her temper tantrum. "I know you have a vendetta against the Red and Green Rangers but I forbid you from attacking them unless I decide it's necessary!"
"As you wish, my empress." Goldar relented.
"Finnster! Have you come up with a monster that can defeat these annoying teenagers!?" Rita whined at her lead scientist/monster maker.
Finnster scurried out and dusted off his apron. "As a matter of fact my mistress, I have properly created a monster that can match the Power Rangers themselves." The scientist stated proudly.
The monster emerged from the corridor. It was a chimera-like monster with sharp tusk-like fangs, a row of ebony plates on its back, red glowing eyes, and long claws on its arms and feet. It was mostly covered in black scales.
"Meet Destroysaur." Finnster introduced, "I made it to make sure that it stands a chance against the Power Rangers and their weapons."
The Destroysaur let out a roar, knocking Badboon and Squatt off their feet while Goldar stood his ground. Rita eyed the monster, somewhat interested in the creation. "How can you be certain this monster is capable of destroying the Power Rangers?" Rita asked.
"As you can see, the tusks and claws are designed to match their Power Weapons and sheer strength. Its back can redirect any energy attacks fired at it, allowing it to use it to their advantage."
Rita hummed in thought for a while. While she like the appearance of Destroysaur, she wanted to know if it had the power to back it up. After the recent failures, she wanted to see if Finnster's creation could live up to what he said.
"Hmmm, I like your work, Finnster but it needs to be properly tested." Rita deemed. "Goldar! Fight this monster to test its strength!"
"Yes my mistress! Fight me at your peril, warrior!" Goldar roared and drew his blade.
With a horizontal and vertical slash, Destroysaur's scales repelled the blows from Goldar. The Titan drew a punch but upon impact, Destroysaur was unfazed. And at close range, the chimera threw a swipe of his own and hit Goldar, sending him back into a pillar.
"A mere strike will not keep me down! Nor the Power Rangers!" Goldar declared and rushed again at Destroysaur. Destroysaur met the attack by blocking with his plates on his back. Goldar's blade struck, only to get sparks before the chimera lunged and tackled Goldar into the same pillar, managing to crack it.
Goldar attempted to lift Destroysaur at close range but the chimera was stronger than the Titan anticipated. And at close range, Destroysaur fired an energy blast from his mouth and fired it at Goldar. This resulted in Goldar being sent out of the Moon Palace.
The Destroysaur was about to follow with the intention of finishing the fight until Rita spoke up, "Halt!" Destroysaur stopped in his tracks, heeding the command of the sorceress. She was impressed by Destroysaur's abilities and strength. Not many can fight evenly with Goldar. Let alone a single monster.
"You've outdone yourself, Finnster." Rita praised the scientist. "Surely, this monster is capable of destroying the Power Rangers if it can match Goldar. It will be sent immediately."
She could practically see the demise of the Power Rangers.
At the Command Center, the Power Rangers were celebrating their latest triumph over their latest victory.
"Man, we are unstoppable!" Zack cheered.
"You said it, Zack!" Kimberly agreed and shared a high five with him.
"Rangers. While I do find it admirable you have overcome Rita's monsters time and time again, it is best not to become overconfident." Zordon both applauded and warned.
"He's right." Billy admitted, "Despite our many triumphs over Rita's forces, we shouldn't be unaware of future events that could lead to the downfall of Earth."
"He means we shouldn't become overconfident or Rita could take advantage." Trini explained.
"Billy and Trini are right." Zordon confirmed. "But as for now, I think you have earned a proper celebration for your recent victories."
"What do you say, guys?" Jason asked his friends, "Ernie's?" Everyone agreed and were teleported out.
As soon as they left, Alpha-5 entered the foyer. "They are excelling well, aren't they Zordon?"
"Yes. But despite their consistent victories, I fear Rita is plotting something more evil." Zordon admitted, "But none of that now. Have you had any luck locating the two lost Power Coins?"
Alpha-5 shook its head, "I've had no luck Zordon. And I fear that I may not be able to find them. Ninjor's energy signature is quite hard to track."
Zordon became worried by that statement. When he and Alpha awoke from their slumber when Rita was freed, they only had the five Power Coins. The lost two Power Coins were the last ones they had been searching for. He feared that Rita had them in her possession much like the Green Power Coin but he was certain as they were lost millions of years ago, so there is no chance she does. When the Rangers go about their days, Zordon instructs Alpha-5 to find the lost coins and they still have little success.
"We cannot let these dead-ends hinder our progress. Continue to try, Alpha. I have faith in you."
…
At the Angel Grove Youth Center, the place was alive as usual.
Naomi Stewart was busy reading up on Greek archaeology. She has dark brown hair with braids and dressed in a magenta tank top, dark jeans, and purple converse. She was sipping on a pomegranate smoothie for the time being.
Adrian Baker was in the middle of a yoga session. He is doing the 'Tree' pose and miraculously holding himself together on one foot. He is ginger and his outfit was an orange t-shirt, black joggers, and was currently barefoot on his orange yoga mat.
"And once again, the latest monster attack has been thwarted thanks to the help of the Power Rangers!" A news reporter replied, "Whoever they are, Angel Grove is truly grateful to have such superheroes help us."
"They are heroes aren't they, Naomi?" Ernie asked the mythology girl. Naomi looked up from her book and gave a nod.
"Yeah, they sure are." She said before inquiring, "Who do you think they could be? Perhaps chosen heroes by deities?"
Adrian walked over, "What are you two talking about?" He asked as he took a seat.
"The Power Rangers." Naomi responded, her voice full of integrity. She had read about heroes from her many stories based on mythology and she recently wondered if the Power Rangers were chosen by beings of a higher level.
Adrian shook his head in amusement. He knows that Naomi always had a fascination for reading mythology, especially heroes from their respective cultures or beliefs. The orange-clad yoga teen simply took a sip of his mango smoothie before answering, "Can't keep your mind off them for a minute, can you?"
"What can I say, I'm a mythology geek." Naomi said proudly.
"Do you ever wonder who is under the helmets?" Ernie chimed in.
"All the time." Naomi said dreamily until she frowned, "Though it's not like they are ever just going to walk in your bar, Ernie."
"You never know." Ernie shrugged as Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, Kim, and Tommy entered the bar.
"Hey, Ernie!" Zack called out and propped up at the counter, "The usual for us."
"You got it, Zack." Ernie replied and went to make their usual beverages.
"Hey, Adrian." Kimberly said and shared a brief hug. The two often did yoga together, which helped with Kimberly's nervousness at times and served as a great friend during the time her parents were getting divorced.
"Naomi, great to see you." Billy greeted.
"Likewise, Billy." Naomi replied right back. Billy was more of a man of science while Naomi preferred in mythology and such but the two were very studious and excellence in class.
"So what divine entity are you reading about this time?" Billy asked.
"Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King of Chinese folklore." Naomi sighed dreamily.
"Your favorite mythological hero." Billy teased.
"Of course." Naomi agreed. "I just got to the part about when he became the guardian of the peach garden."
"It makes you wonder if such tales of divine beings actually existed on this plane of reality." Billy said which Trini surmised as, "He wonders if the stories are true or fiction."
"Keeping up with your gymnastic practices, Kim?" Adrian asked as Kim and Tommy sat together. "Been a while since I saw you on the balance board or teach a fitness dance class."
"Busy with school work," Kimberly lied, knowing she couldn't tell the truth. "Keeping those As up and not mention spending time with Tommy too."
"Yep, I'm one lucky guy." Tommy somewhat boasted.
Adrian was happy for Kim to find someone. He had see her as a sister to him and was happy to see Tommy as her boyfriend. Not mention, the signs were obvious in Adrian's eyes.
Unexpectedly, the wrist communicators beeped to life causing the teenagers with attitude to hold back their groans. "Um, sorry, I have to take this," Jason lied and hurried to a secluded place.
Once he made sure the coast was clear, Jason answered, "What is it, Zordon?"
[I am detecting one of Rita's monsters attacking the quarry. This monster is causing chaos and needs to be put to a stop.]
"You got it, Zordon." Jason replied and whistled to his friends.
"Hey, Ernie. Might want to hold off on those drinks." Zach called in the back, hoping that Ernie heard him and wasn't making the drinks. He and the others got the memo and caught up with Jason and headed off, leaving Naomi and Adrian at the counter.
"Do you ever wonder where they are going?" Naomi asked. "We hardly see them outside of school and here."
"It's crossed my mind a few times but I'm just shrugging it off now." Adrian admitted. "Come on, let's get some sun, Naomi."
"Do I have to?" Naomi partially whined as she gathered her stuff and left with him. Adrian had recently suggested Naomi should get some sunlight at Angel Grove Park. Naomi was hesitant but Adrian was persistent.
As they left, Ernie came back with the smoothies Zack requested but looked in confused. "Where did everyone go?"
Destroysaur smashed a rock in a quarry, letting out a roar that had civilians running for cover.
"Hey, fossil-face!"
Destroysaur turned around and saw the six Power Rangers land on the ground before posing.
"I think you'll find that any friends of yours went extinct a millennium ago!" Zack taunted.
"Rangers… Destroysaur destroy Rangers!" Destroysaur roared as the Power Rangers ran towards the chimera.
Jason threw a series of punches and kicks that was followed by Billy and Trini firing their Blade Blasters. Destroysaur shrugged off the attacks like they were nothing. With the Red Ranger close, he landed two swipes that sent Jason flying.
"Our Blade Blasters don't have any effect on it!" Billy noticed with concern.
"Try your Power Weapons!" Zack suggested and brought out the Power Axe. He shifted it into cannon mode as Destroysaur came charging. The Black Ranger fired away, only resulting in no effect on the chimera.
"It didn't even faze him?!" Zack cried out as the chimera slashed the Black Ranger rapidly before swinging its tusks around. The Black Ranger was hit hard and collided with a construction vehicle.
From an excavator, Kimberly had the creature in her sight. "Power Bow!" She shouted, summoning her weapon, and released several arrows that were deflected by Destroysaur's armor. The monster proceeded to unleash an energy blast from its mouth but the Pink Ranger dodged it, narrowly avoiding the explosion that destroyed her perch.
Tommy brought out his Dragon Dagger and landed several slashes but had no effect much like the Power Weapons. Tommy began to throw a punch which bounced off the scales. Destroysaur swung his tail around, tripping the Green Ranger then brought his tail around, slamming him rapidly.
"Hey, get off him!" Jason shouted as Zack and Kimberly fired their weapons again, only having no effect much like before. Destroysaur shrugged them off but it was becoming an annoyance. The monster released another energy blast that struck the other rangers altogether.
Groaning in pain, they managed to recover as Billy noted, "We aren't making a dent!"
"Then I think we need to put them together!" Jason suggested. The other rangers followed in tandem.
"Power Axe!"
"Power Bow!"
"Power Lance!"
"Power Daggers!"
"Power Sword!"
Jason brought down their combined weapon, the Power Blaster. Holding their weapon together, they all yelled, "Fire!"
The Power Blaster released a burst of concentrated Grid energy towards the chimera. Destroysaur took the hit, absorbing it through its body before releasing it ten-folds back at the colored heroes. The Power Rangers were sent flying back, landing in pain as Destroysaur growled with content.
As the battle shifted in favor of Rita's monster, Zordon watched from the Command Center, with concern.
"Ai-ya-ya-ya-ai!" Alpha-5 reported, "Zordon! This monster is beating the Power Rangers! Even their Power Weapons are not affecting it!"
"It seems this monster, Destroysaur, is impervious to anything the Power Rangers use. Even hand-to-hand combat is not effective." Zordon said.
"What will the Rangers do now?" Alpha-5 asked.
Zordon pondered his response for a while. "The Power Rangers have proven time and time again that they are capable of defeating Rita's creations. Have faith in them, Alpha. They are sure to survive."
A klaxon went off as Zordon finished his sentence.
"Ai-ya-ya-ya-ai!" Alpha exclaimed and checked the monitor. "Zordon! I think the remaining Power Coins have been detected!"
"Alpha, teleport them here immediately." Zordon said. He was inwardly jubilant at the timing. Perhaps the Morphin Masters were looking after him and his Rangers.
Naomi was reading her book, too engrossed with it as Adrian was taking in the sunlight. He looked at his friend and teased, "Would it kill you not to be such a bookworm?"
"I'm just reading about Sun Wukong." Naomi replied as her eyes skimmed through the book for the fifteenth time.
"Naomi, so much happens when your nose isn't stuck in a book." Adrian countered.
Naomi just sighed in mild annoyance and was about to read again when Adrian pushed down her book, "I'm serious, Naomi."
"Knowledge is power, Adrian." Naomi replied as she moved her book back up.
"Yeah, but about mythological heroes?" Adrian questioned, "There is a reason they are myths."
"You don't know that." Naomi said as she put down her book for a brief second.
Two gleams catch the eyes of the passing teenagers. "Hey, what's that?" Naomi questioned and approached the gleams. She reached down, uncovering a dirt patch and came across a golden coin with a Brontosaurus engraved on it.
Adrian joined her and uncovered another coin, this one with a Stegosaurus. "What are these?"
"They look like some kind of coins. Collector's items?" Naomi guessed.
Before they could observe it any further, they were beamed away and instantly transported into the Command Center, much to their confusion and stumbled about, not used to the futuristic technology.
"Adrian, what just happened?" Namoi questioned her friend who shrugged and replied, "How should I know?"
"Greetings, finders of the lost Power Coins." Zordon boomed, announcing his presence to the two stunned teenagers.
"Adrian… you see the talking head too, right?" Naomi asked in shock. Adrian wordlessly nodded.
"I do not wish to harm you. My name is Zordon. I am an interdimensional being caught in a time warp. The reason you have been summoned is due to finding the remaining Power Coins."
"Power Coins?" Adrian repeated in disbelief. He shook his head and tried to make sense of this, "Right. I must be dreaming. Naomi, pinch me."
Naomi did the action and Adrian still found himself standing before Zordon. "Not a dream… maybe a coma?"
"I assure you Adrian, that this is no dream." Zordon explained, "You have discovered the two lost Power Coins. This was not by accident, rather fate."
"Fate?" Naomi said, somewhat skeptical but intrigued. She recalled how some mythological heroes were destined for great things and it was by fate or destiny they prevailed.
"Indeed. And now your time could not be more relevant." Zordon advised. "Look at the viewing globe." The two teenagers turned and observed said globe, seeing how the Power Rangers were still losing against Destorysaur.
"I am the being that aids the Power Rangers. And our enemy, Rita Replusa, has created a monster capable of holding its own against the Power Rangers. If it isn't stopped anytime soon, the Rangers may lose this fight."
Adrian looked apprehensive at the idea but Naomi looked very intrigued. It was like the books she had read. A divine being or elder instructing a young man or woman into the role of a hero. Something she had always read and wanted in real life.
"I know this may be alot to take in. However, the choice is yours." Zordon explained.
Adrian was about to decline when Naomi spoke up, "I accept."
"What?!" Adrian exclaimed in disbelief.
"From the stories I've read, sometimes it's not always the ideal candidate. Not the bravest, not the strongest, not the smartest. It's sometimes the unlikely candidate that makes a difference and stands up for what's right." Naomi declared, "I'll become… a Power Ranger."
Adrian was silent before giving a small sigh of agreement. "I suppose that's true. Well, if you're becoming a Ranger, what's one more?"
The two teenagers stood proud before Zordon. The Eltarian concentrated and the Power Morphers appeared before them. "You have both obtained your respective Power Coins."
"Adrian, you wield the Stegosaurus Power Coin. With it, you are the Orange Ranger. Naomi, you wield the Brontosaurus Power Coin. With it, you are the Purple Ranger. To morph, all you need to say is your respective coin's name and you will feel the Morphing Grid's power, giving you superhuman abilities."
The teenagers nodded and they turned their attention to viewing globe again. The Destroysaur had began a wild beatdown on the Red Ranger, getting scratched and struck nonstop.
"It is time Rangers." Zordon advised.
"Let's do this!" Naomi shouted and summoned her morpher. "It's morphin' time! Brontosaurus!"
"Stegosaurus!" Adrian added.
Both chosen teenagers were encompassed in their respective glows, Adrian in orange while Naomi was in purple. They felt the powers of the Morphing Grid follow through, giving them powers to battle the forces of evil.
After their transformations, Naomi and Adrian donned their costumes, the former in purple while the later was in orange. Naomi's helmet resembled the head of a Brontosaurus and Adrian had a Stegosaurus motif. Now they were officially Power Rangers.
"Ergh!" Jason grunted as Destroysaur threw him away.
"Jason!" Trini called out and they surrounded the Red Ranger. The battle had not morphed into their favor even after using the Power Blaster.
Destroysaur let out a vicious roar and spewed several waves of energy, striking the Rangers down.
"We're not doing anything!" Tommy said, struggling to rise.
Two streaks of purple and orange descended from the sky and landed on the ground. And out of them came the Orange Ranger and Purple Ranger.
"No way!" Zack exclaimed.
"Two more Rangers?" Kimberly gasped.
Jason, Billy, Trini, and Tommy shared the sediments as the two new Rangers posed.
"Ai-yah!" The two newcomers shouted and jumped into battle. Despite not knowing any fighting moves, they seemed to come naturally to them.
The Orange Ranger threw a punch-kick combo before throwing a jumping roundhouse, hitting Destroysaur between its eyes. "Woah!" Adrian exclaimed as he looked at his orange Power Ranger suit. He clenched his fists and threw a punch into the stomach of Destroysaur who stumbled back.
Since it was made to match the power of the six Power Coins, the extra ones had taken a toll on it.
Naomi dived in, boot first and landed a dive kick on monster and then a punch infused with her Grid energy. Destroysaur was pushed back before Naomi and Adrian began tag-teaming him. Adrian struck high and Naomi struck low, keeping Destroysaur annoyed and unable to keep up.
"Look at that!" Kimberly noted, "They are getting him on the ropes!"
"Who are they?" Tommy questioned.
"Rangers… use your Power Weapons." Zordon advised the two newbie Rangers.
"Right!" The newcomers agreed and summoned their weapons, "Power Whip/Power Hammer!"
Adrian summoned his Power Hammer while Namoi unfurled her Power Whip. Despite never using the weapons beforehand, they wielded them like second nature.
Adrian slammed the hammer onto the ground, creating a tremor that disoriented Destroysaur. Namoi spun her whip, allowing it to crackle with energy, then unleashed it, causing the chimera to stumble back from the pain.
Adrian charged in, delivering a wallop of his Power Hammer by slugging it into Destroysaur's face, cracking a tusk. Destroysaur fell to the ground before getting back up and roared.
"They managed to crack its tusk!" Kimberly noticed.
"Not only that, they seem to be doing more damage!" Billy informed, "Perhaps, this monster was designed to withstand our Power Weapons."
"But not theirs," Jason finished as the Orange and Purple Rangers continued their assault. Destroysaur continued to attack but the newbie Rangers were beating the chimera up.
Destroysaur backed away before charging a pulse of energy. Naomi had an idea. Seeing how this monster was durable on the outside but the inside…
"Adr-" Naomi said before she caught herself. It's not like the fact she didn't trust the Power Rangers but she didn't wish to reveal their identities to them unless necessary. "Orange! Give me a boost!"
Seeing the Purple Ranger run over, Adrian held his Power Hammer out and Naomi landed on it. With his enhanced strength, Adrian heaved her into the air and Naomi swung her Power Whip with ease before throwing it around the neck of the beast.
Destroysaur began to choke as the energy built up in his throat. Without a way to unleash the power, he was choking on the amount of energy.
Billy took a second to realize what the Purple Ranger was doing. "Of course! He is susceptible to all our attacks on the outside but might be vulnerable on the inside!"
Naomi tightened her grip as Destroysaur continued to accidentally build more energy. Without an exit, the energy started to hurt him from the inside. "Orange! Swing your weapon into its stomach! Quick!"
Orange nodded and charged in, swinging his hammer upward and directly into the stomach. The energy within combusted and Destroysaur's insides were smoking and no doubt damaged.
"Alright, you two stand back!" Jason called out and the two newbies disengaged. Destroysaur, still smoking and discombobulated, failed to notice the Power Blaster charging up.
"Fire!" The Power Blaster unleashed its energy again and this time Destroysaur was struck with the full force of Grid energy, destroying it as it couldn't redirect it. An explosion from the beast occured as the Rangers posed at their victory.
From the Moon Palace, Rita watched in anger as Destroysaur was destroyed by the new Rangers. "More Rangers!?" Goldar growled and raised his sword, "They will fall by my blade!"
"Errrrrrrr!" Rita growled, "As if Zordon didn't have enough teenagers to work for him already!" This was already starting to give her a headache. Now with two new Rangers with the lost Power Coins, her conquest of Earth was delayed even further. She was so infuriated she decided not to grow Destroysaur or snap at Finnster. Instead, the witch headed away for some me-time and to think of a new plan.
After their time in the healing chambers, the original six Rangers were congregating in the Command Center. They were still surprised at the sight of two new Rangers and their own Power Coins.
"Man, I didn't know there were more Power Coins." Tommy said, "I thought there were only six, since mine was Rita's originally."
"It is possible that there are many other Power Coins." Billy inquired, "Perhaps there are other potential Rangers out there."
"Which could mean there is more help to deal with Rita's forces." Jason finished before folding his arms, "But Zordon why didn't you tell us?"
Zordon noticed the looks of his chosen Rangers and explained. "Unfortunately, I was unsure whether the two Power Coins were able to be found. For a moment, I thought they had been lost forever. However, the two newest Rangers discovered them and they were essential in defeating Destroysaur."
"Yeah, that monster was getting us good." Zack admitted, somewhat sore.
"Now then. It is time to meet the new Rangers." Zordon boomed and two streaks of purple and orange touched down. The streaks revealed them to be Naomi and Adrian respectively, who were shocked at seeing their friends as the Power Rangers and vice versa.
"Adrian/Naomi?!" Kim and Trini exclaimed.
"No way…" Naomi said, stunned at seeing her friends.
"This… explains some things to be honest." Adrian admitted.
"So now you are Power Rangers too." Jason said.
"Well, yeah." Adrian sheepishly admitted before glancing at Kimberly, "Didn't think you were a Power Ranger. In hindsight, it should have crossed my mind. You have been spending time with Tommy who is also a Ranger."
"Well, I joined before him." Kimberly proudly stated.
"So, chosen by a being of power to aid in defeating a malevolent force bent on ruling Earth. Sounds like a dream come true for you, Naomi." Billy teased.
"Oh, definitely," Naomi intoned. "I'm guessing sworn to secrecy given the dangers?"
"Affirmative." Billy replied. "As well as not using your powers for personal gain or escalating a normal fight."
Naomi heeded his words as Zordon spoke again, "It is good to see all of you in good faith and trust. With the added forces, Rita's villainy would take a halt for now."
"Now, I say, to Enrie's." Zack insisted, "All those in favor?"
"I!" The rest of the Power Rangers agreed and left the Command Center in a happy mood.
And there it is, the tale of the missing Power Coins. In some timelines, Zordon and Ninjor created more than the original six. New Rangers have been blessed with the power of the Morphing Grid.
However there are still some events that remained the same.
Jason, Zack, Trini, and Naomi transfer their Power Coins to Rocky, Adam, Aisha, and a Hispanic girl named Olivia, donning the colors of Red, Black, Yellow, and Purple respectively.
Olivia poses as the Brontosaurus Zord becomes the Pegasus Thunderzord. Adrian poses as the Stegosaurus Zord becomes the Sphinx Thunderzord.
Olivia dons Purple Ninjetti with the power of the turtle. Adrian dons Orange Ninjetti with the power of the mustang.
But that is the tale of this universe.
Chapter 3: What If... the Ninja Rangers learned Ninjetti? Part 1

Chapter Text
Ninjetti.
An ancient technique taught by the Legendary Ninjor himself on Earth. When Lord Zedd came to Earth and destroyed the Thunderzords, the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers sought out the power to help them. They were given connections to their spirit animal: ape, wolf, bear, crane, frog, and falcon. These powers aided them in their future battles against the combined might of the newly wedded Rita and Zedd, eventually regaining their Grid Powers.
In many timelines and universes, the idea of Ninjetti had been reserved for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers before they gained their Zeo powers. In some however, Ninjetti expanded to later Power Ranger teams.
Such as this timeline…
Today was an average day for Blue Bay Harbor.
At least for their resident Power Rangers.
Shane Clarke, the Red Wind Ranger, created a funnel of wind to blow a platoon of Kelzacks away from advancing. He pulled his Ninja Sword out and slashed through his set with ease. "What's up with these Kelzacks today?" He asked his fellow teammates.
Tori Hanson, the Blue Wind Ranger, summoned a wave of water that washed another group of Kelzacks. She pulled out her Sonic Fin and let out a sound wave attack, blasting the minions away. "I don't know. It seems like there are more than usual." Tori answered.
"Maybe they are competing for a prize?" Waldo 'Dustin' Brookes, the Yellow Wind Ranger, guessed. He sent a wave of geothermal energy, which erupted beneath the set of Kelzacks he was fighting.
Blake Bradley, the Navy Thunder Ranger, brought down a navy blue lightning strike and electrocuted Kelzacks. "Highly doubt that, Dustin." Blake replied. Using his Thunder Blade, Blake brought down twelve Kelzacks in order.
Hunter Bradley, the Crimson Thunder Ranger, unleashed his own lightning strike with crimson color. "As long as they keep coming, we keep knocking them down!" He declared and used his Crimson Blaster to mow down a total of sixteen Kelzacks in rapid succession.
Cam Watanabe, the Green Samurai Ranger, delivered quick strikes with his Samurai Saber to any incoming Kelzacks. "While that morale is good, I think Luthor is trying to tire us out then strike when at our lowest." The resident genius deduced.
"Then let's put it together and wrap this up quickly!" Shane said, revving his Hawk Blaster. The Wind and Thunder Rangers combined their respective weapons to form the Thunderstorm Cannon.
"Thunderstorm Cannon, ready! Fire!" The combined weapon fired a burst of energy that obliterated any remaining Kelzacks.
The Ninja Rangers cheered before an energy blast exploded at their feet. They were sent flying and landed on their feet before spotting the culprit. "Up there!"
"Hello, Rangers!" A robotic looking general with a vacuum suction on its appendage. "The name is Draintron and I am here for your demise!" It declared.
"You don't look so tough, Dude," Dustin remarked. "I bet you are just the janitor on Lothor's ship."
"With arms like that, I can see it." Hunter added.
"Trust me, Yellow Ranger," Draintron warned, "I'm not a janitor! I am your reckoning!" The robotic general jumped off from his position and landed, aiming his vacuum appendage at the Rangers.
They braced themselves for any tricks as Draintron landed and began his attack.
With their swords, the ninjas attacked with everything only to be sent back from Draintron's attacks, causing sparks to rake across their garb.
"Dude, this one tough janitor." Dustin let out, getting to his feet.
"It's just a machine," Hunter noted, "I say we fry it!"
"I'm with you on that, bro!" Blake agreed. The two Thunder Rangers called upon their elemental ability.
"Yes… this is it!" Draintron said and held his vacuum arm up.
"Thunder Strike!" The brothers fired their lightning which was absorbed into the vacuum feature. However something felt off as the Thunder Rangers tried to stop their attacks once they started.
"Hey, what's going on!?" Hunter said, trying to stop their attacks.
"I don't know, but I can't stop firing my lightning!" Blake said.
"Guys! You're doing nothing to him!" Cam shouted as he and the Wind Rangers ran over to help them.
"Stop firing!" Shane instructed.
"We can't for some reason!" Blake said as he felt his thunder power fade, Hunter followed shortly.
"If electricity isn't working, how about some downpour?" Tori quizzed and summoned a wave of water to launch. Draintron aimed his vacuum at the Blue Wind Ninja Ranger, since it was done with the Thunder Rangers and prepared for the next target.
Draintron cracked another smirk as the water attack came at it. Activating the special feature of his vacuum again, Draintron absorbed the wave then was siphoning energy from Tori herself.
"What kind of vacuum sucks in water?" Tori asked as she began to feel weak herself.
"Air Strike!" Shane shouted and came down to sever the Draintron's attack. The siphoner dodged the attack and proceeded to combat the Red Ranger. The yellow-clad ninja and green-clad samurai joined in, using their swords to attack Draintron.
Draintron proceeded to get the upper hand, having bashed the ninjas and samurai away. Leaping up, he descended on the nearest, which happened to Dustin. With its vacuum, it siphoned some of Dustin's energy and elemental ability. "How's that for a janitor?!" Draintron taunted and kicked Dustin once it was through.
Cam managed to rise as Draintron charged towards him. The green samurai drew his samurai saber and clashed with the automaton back and forth. Cam was able to get in a few hits before Draintron's vacuum began to drain the green samurai. Once it got a decent amount of energy, the automaton released its grip and Cam fell to the floor.
Draintron gave a smirk on its monitor as Shane used his air sprint to strike rapidly. Sparks fell from Draintron before the siphoner bashed the Air ninja away. Shane looked around to see his allies on the ground, slowly rising.
"What did you do to them?!" Shane demanded and held his Ninja sword.
Draintron began to gloat, seeing its plan almost complete, "It's simple. I've absorbed enough of your teammates' elemental powers! Along with the Samurai powers too. And I'll add yours to the collection too!"
"Not a chance!" Shane declared and darted forward. Using his ninja-streak, Shane struck rapidly, back and forth, leaving Draintron with no time to cover.
Draintron kept trying to calculate but the Red Wind Ranger was faster than it took into account. But in a short time however, Draintron thrusted its vacuum arm forward and fired a tractor beam at a random spot, hitting Shane who had just landed there.
Shane rolled to the ground and was caught in another tractor beam. Draintron pulled the Red Ranger in and began absorbing the power of Air in quick motion. Once finished draining a significant amount, Draintron kicked Shane off as the rest of the Rangers ran towards their downed teammate.
"Shane, are you alright?" Tori asked in concern. Shane managed to stand but was shaky.
"I'm good, Tor. But man, he drained my power of Air." Shane groaned in pain.
Draintron crackled, "And I'll be sure to put them to good use!" Draintron then retreated from the fight leaving the Ninja Rangers stumped at losing their powers for the second time.
On the Dark Ninja's ship, Draintron presented itself to Lothor, who grinned. "Great work out there! Now those Rangers are powerless! And we have their power for ourselves now!" Behind him were the tubes containing the energy form of the stolen elements.
"I told you it would work." Motodrone said. Having used some of Madtropolis' spare parts, Motodrone constructed Draintron with the sole purpose to drain the Rangers of their elemental abilities. As Motodrone did once with the Crimson Ranger, he figured this would work to absorb all the Rangers elemental prowess.
"Well, I'm glad you did. It's great to finally have something go right for our side for once." Luthor praised the vacuum-based machine. "So, what now?"
"Draintron can absorb the elemental abilities with the parts of Madtropolis. But he is also capable of giving those powers to individuals." Motodrone explained.
"Marah! Kapri!" Lothor shouted, "Find some of my generals to give the Rangers powers and then we launch an attack!"
"Ooh! Or you could give us one of the Rangers powers!" Chocobo suggested.
"Oh! I call dibs on the red one!" Marah immediately said.
"With your head in the clouds all the time? It's certainly an improvement." Kapri mocked.
"Oh yeah? Why don't you get the blue one's then? It could help wash away your hideous makeup!" Marah challenged.
"I would take great pleasure in obtaining one of the Thunder Rangers." Shimazu greedily said.
Vexacus scoffed at the idea. "We should attack right now."
"As much as it pains me to say this but perhaps Vexacus has a point, Sir." Zurgane agreed.
"I'm more than capable with the Crimson's powers." Motodrone refuted. Soon the whole deck was bickering about who should receive which powers.
Back at Ninja Ops, the team was discussing their current powerless position.
"Dude, this stinks!" Dustin shouted with irritation. "We lost our powers again!"
"But at least this time, we don't feel as weak or exhausted." Shane reminded the Earth ninja.
"Can't you go back in time again, Cam?" Hunter asked their resident genius, who shook his head.
"Not this time," Cam said, "The amulet's power is partially drained as well. I don't know how to properly charge it."
"Well, we need something." Tori admitted, "While we have our ninja skills, our elemental abilities aren't that strong either."
"The coins helped to control your element but since they are drained, we need a Plan B."
Sensei Watanabe chose this moment to speak up, "Perhaps there is a way."
"What do you mean, Sensei?" Dustin asked as the Rangers crowded around the guinea pig.
"Instead of your elemental abilities, perhaps you need a new set of skills." The sensei clarified and cartwheeled to the archives.
"Dude, I don't think motocross is going to help beat the janitor on Lothor's ship." Dustin said, misreading the idea.
Blake clasped his hand on Dustin's back, "I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant."
Sensei was jumping from each shelf, scanning them until he found what he was looking for. "Here it is." Sensei flipped to the ground with a rather large -for his size- scroll. Cam took it from his dad and unraveled it. After a few seconds of studying, he spoke, "Ninjetti?"
"Wait, Ninjetti?!" Dustin exclaimed and instantly hogged the scroll.
"Dustin actually knows something other than motocross?" Tori said, surprised by the reveal.
"Dudes, Ninjetti was like… Huge!" The Earth Ninja exclaimed, "It's what got me into Power Rangers and ninjas altogether! I heard that the first Rangers unlocked their own Ninjetti skills and used them in many battles!"
"Easy, dude." Shane said, trying to relax his hyperactive and scatterbrained friend.
"I thought Ninjetti was a myth." Cam stated, "Or at the very least, unobtainable nowadays."
"While that is lesser known now, it can still be taught by the Ninja Master, Ninjor." Sensei explained. "He can be found in the Desert of Despair. If it wasn't for these scrolls, I fear we would have resulted to other methods."
"None which I can assume we have enough time for." Cam intoned. "If Lothor has our elemental powers, there is no telling what can happen.""So we go to this desert, find this Ninja master, and unlock Ninjetti?" Hunter summarized. "How will he even train us?"
"Ninjor will put you to your test when you least expect it." Sensei sagely advice. "Use your Ninja-streak to get there. Cyber-Cam and I will monitor things in Blue Bay while you embark on your journey."
"Come on, let's get going." Shane suggested, "I don't want to know what Lothor plans to use our powers for." The Rangers nodded and took off to learn the ancient technique.
Utilizing their ninja streak, they arrived in the Desert of Despair. And they were immediately greeted by heat.
"Man, it's so hot here." Hunter remarked, fanning himself.
"It's a desert, Hunter. What more do you expect?" Shane explained. "But you aren't wrong." The Wind ninja began to fan himself.
"Cam, you got the map?" Blake asked to which the Green Samurai Ranger nodded, "Right here."
"The sooner we find this Ninjor guy, the better." Tori remarked and the six Rangers began to walk through the barren wasteland.
After about thirty minutes, the Rangers search led them to nowhere. They had been drinking water exponentially to stay hydrated but were still struggling to find the rock formation.
"Where can this darn rock be?" Blake complained. The Rangers took a much needed rest with the blazing sun.
"I don't know dudes, but I'm baking too much in this heat." Dustin admitted.
Cam, after drinking water and cleaning his glasses briefly, looked around and noticed a rod formation. "Say… I think that's the rock."
"Are you sure, Cam?" Hunter questioned, not fully believing the genius.
Cam said nothing and walked over. He moved his hand forward only for it to go through. "It's like a hologram."
"It's a ninja master secret hideout, dude. It's called an illusion." Dustin refuted. Ignoring the Earth ninja's comment, Cam proceeded to enter the formation as the other Rangers entered.
"At least we finally have some shade." Tori remarked.
"Come on," Shane took point, "Let's find this Ninjor guy." The Red Wind Ranger led in front as the others followed his lead.
As the six Ninja Rangers headed into the cave, a mist slowly appeared. Small but grew in appearance and became thicker.
"How does a ninja master live like this?" Blake mentioned. "Not even Sensei would choose a dark cave in the middle of nowhere."
"Best not to get separated." Shane advised. The rangers kept each other at arm's length as they pressed on.
As the mist got thicker and thicker, the rangers struggled to see each other. Shane was the first to call out, "Can anyone still see me?" When he didn't receive an answer, he turned behind him to see that no one was behind him. "Tori? Dustin? Hunter? Blake? Cam?" He called out to his friends. "Anyone?" The mist's thickness had increased and now blanketed the entire area.
Shane began to feel a knot in his stomach. His friends had been separate and he was alone in this cave. He wasn't sure where they were but knew they were capable of handling themselves. It didn't help his fear however.
Too busy worrying, Shane didn't keep his eyes on the ground before nearly feeling himself slip. "Woah!" The Air ninja caught his balance and managed to regain his footing before noticing he was no longer in a cave… rather a cliffside. "Oh man, this trip just got a whole lot worse." He groaned and saw the distance between his cliffside and the next.
Which was miles away.
Tori, oddly enough, found herself at the beach. The sun was shining bright and she could hear the waves crashing against the shore. "Wasn't I just in a cave?" Tori asked no-one in particular.
She looked around as before feeling something. She wasn't sure but due to her affinity towards water, she felt something was wrong. She peered the horizon to see a colossal wave slowly forming a tsunami that would definitely hit the beach.
"Okay, not an ideal time at the beach." Tori remarked as she began to think of a way to conquer the wave from consuming both the shore and her.
"Hello?" Dustin's voice echoed in the cave he was currently in. The Earth ninja looked around to see he was by his lonesome and confusion. Scratching his head, Dustin was unsure where everyone went after the mist set in.
"Dudes?" Dustin shouted and his voice echoed again. Not dwelling on it long, Dustin spoke, "Well, I know it's probably best to just keep going forward." Dustin ran forward and came to a fork in the road.
"Oh, boy," Dustin winced as he began to struggle with choosing the right path.
"Weren't we just in a cave?" Hunter questioned his brother as rain poured from above the two Thunder Rangers. Like the Wind Rangers, the brothers were going through their hurdle for the time being.
They found themselves in a harsh rainstorm and without taking precaution as they presumed they would be rather burning up in a desert, the Bradley brothers being completely drenched in by the weather.
"Pretty sure, bro. And right now, I think I would take the desert instead." Blake mentioned, "Not to mention, the others aren't with us anymore."
"Yeah," Hunter mentioned, "But I'm sure they are alright."
A harsh thunderclap boomed through the storm and a bolt of lightning struck the ground near the Thunder ninjas.
"That was close." Blake admitted before another bolt of lightning struck near the brothers. "I don't think those lightning bolts are supposed to be this close."
The Thunder Rangers shielded themselves as more thunderclaps and lightning began to occur more often and the Bradley brothers quickly hastened their pace to find shelter. Only there was none they could find.
"Great, now I'm lost in a cave thanks to that fog," Cam lamented as he came across another split in the road. Playing a short game of 'which way to take' Cam opted for the left cave.
Venturing deeper, Cam felt some mild fear but ignored it, thinking it was just his paranoia of being separated from the others. However, the temperature felt colder the more Cam walked. He was soon shivering and could see his own breath.
"How did it get so cold?"
Unworthy…
Cam heard the ghastly voice and tried to brush it off.
Unworthy… Unworthy…
Cam tried his best to ignore the chants of the wail but it grew louder and louder with each step. Eventually Cam to a circular arena with torches lining within the cave.
Unworthy… of my power…
A harsh chill filled the arena and the torches lit up. A ghostly figure appeared and floated above the arena.
Cam looked up, confused before noting the garb which was a reminder of the samurai class when he went to the past. "It can't be…" he gasped, "Mom?"
"You… are… unworthy." The apparition sneered and attacked Cam.
Cam backflipped away, into the arena as the spiritual figure brought out a bokēn and attacked Cam in an artful display.
Cam blocked an incoming strike, grunting while trying to make sense, "I don't want to fight you."
The apparition made no remarks. Her bokēn took a green glow and swung it in an arc, creating a wave of green energy that struck Cam down. Cam fell to his knees as the apparition continued her speech, "Unworthy… of the Samurai power. Unworthy… of its potential. Unworthy… to become a Ranger."
All of the Rangers were dealing with their own struggles, each seemingly their own challenge.
Unbeknownst to them, they were all being watched on a crystal ball by a certain ninja master.
Notes:
A/N: First part of Ninjetti in Ninja Storm. It would have been a full chapter but I decided to split it into two parts. Like I said, there will be some two-parter chapters.
Dustin is/was a Power Rangers fan so I presume he learned about the ninja powers during the Mighty Morphin era.
Next time will be the conclusion.

Chapter Text
Back on the Dark Ninja's ship, their blackboard had been pulled out and now displayed a chart of who should get what with Marah and Kapri putting the finishing touches on it.
Kapri began, "Alright! Now that we have finally established who gets what, let's have a look." She gestured to the blackboard.
"So, I will get the Red Ranger's powers." Kapri explained, "Marah gets the Yellow Ranger's because she needs to be more down to Earth."
"Yippee!" Marah cheered before realizing what her sister was implying. "Hey-"
"Vexacus gets the Blue Ranger because Lothor and Zurgane said he's a fish."
The bounty hunter snarled at the insult.
"The Thunder Rangers' powers will go to Shimazu and Motodrone, with Shimazu getting the navy and Motodrone with the Crimson."
"And Chocobo gets our green cousin's." Kapri finished, "Any questions?"
Lothor, who had been bored throughout the presentation, fired a blast of dark energy at the blackboard.
"You could have just said so, Uncle!" Kapri shouted before groaning, "Great, now we have to restart it."
"This time can I get the Navy Ranger's powers?" Chocobo meekly asked.
"No!" Luthor shouted and stood up from his throne. "We aren't going to do any of that again! While we are complaining up here, those Rangers may be up to something! We need to attack now!"
"Just as I mentioned before," Zurgane proclaimed as Vexacus growled.
"Get me five generals from my army who are capable of using their powers to the fullest! Draintron, you will give them the powers and be sent to help in case." Luthor said with authority. "As soon as they get them, send them down to cause trouble and destroy Blue Bay Harbor."
Shane, in a rare change of event, began to feel nervous and hypervental. He had hardly been this high before without something to break his descent.
He closed his eyes, trying not to picture the gorge beneath him as he hung to the cliffside. "Chill, Shane… chill…." He told himself before taking in the atmosphere.
With his sixth sense, he was able to feel the wind current in between. Looking somewhat further, he noticed a cave, which no doubt was what he needed to head.
"Well, Sensei did say this ninja master would create challenges."
Taking a deep breath, Shane placed his fingers together in a ninja position. Feeling the power of air through the currents, he got into a sprinter-position. "Deep breaths," the Air ninja told himself as prepared himself.
"3… 2… 1!" Shane counted down and took off.
He did his air sprint ability, only clearing one-fifth of the distance. However, he dared not to look down and continued to sprint, pushing himself harder and harder.
Simply thinking about making it to the other side, Shane felt his legs moving faster to cross and was making better progress, now halfway.
Continuing his sprint, he pushed himself harder as he only pictured himself on the other side of the cliff and meeting up with his friends. His determination and skills was enough for him to fully cross the deep.
Landing on solid ground again, Shane let out the breath he had been unknowingly been holding in at the beginning. Brushing off any self-doubt he had, Shane headed into the cave again. As the light slowly faded from the entrance, Shane was greeted by more fog.
"Not this time," Shane declared and created a small funnel of wind to blow the fog back. Only it did nothing as the fog got thicker and affected his field of vision again.
...
Tori looked at the tsunami in fear, taking subtle step backs to hold her ground. She had conquered waves before but this was no ordinary wave. Looking around, she was the only person in the area. Which was good and she could freely use her powers, and made the most logical sense as she was just in a cave.
Shaking the multiple thoughts in her head, Tori focused her mind on the task at hand: stopping the wave.
She wasn't one to brag, but she had taken her water ninja training more seriously since Lothor's invasion. Shane and Dustin were making some progress while the Bradley brothers had more practice given their bouts with them. Cam, despite not having a certain element affiliation, was still capable but was branching out with other activities instead of being cooped up at Ninja Ops.
Holding her hands out, she directed a look towards the wave, which was still on its way. Tori concentrated harder with the tidal wave still approaching. Tori was beginning to get frustrated and gritted her teeth in irritation as the tidal wave came closer.
"Why won't it stop?" Tori let out as she still had her hands out. She was growing more frustrated by the second as the wave was threatening her.
Then she closed her eyes, recalling what the element of water was. From her training at times, the power of water was raging but is known to be calming too. Centering herself, she pictured herself at peace.
She never commanded the waves when she surfed, only riding them. Being one with the water that allowed her to show off to anyone who thought she couldn't do it. It was that mindset that allowed her to exhale and just picture herself being one with the wave, not commanding it.
Opening her eyes, she saw the wave had stopped, centimeters in the shallow end. Waving her hands, the impending danger began to move to her motions before settling down. Tori successfully tamed the wave and turned it simply back into the ocean.
"That's one wave I don't want to ride," the Water ninja said to herself. The sunlight was blocked which caused Tori to look up and see a thick fog setting in. Coming at a fast pace, the fog blanketed her sight and the beach altogether.
...
Dustin scratched his head, trying to make sense of his predicament. While he wasn't the brains of the team, he was still all there.
He pointed his finger back and forth between the two tunnels. Trying to make a decent decision was difficult about which tunnel to use. "Oh man…" He groaned.
Slumping to the ground, Dustin wasn't sure what to do with his current problem. Eenie-meenie wasn't the most mature choice but Dustin wasn't the best of his fellow students with Earth ninja training. He did his best to keep up with it though.
Being somewhat bored at his predicament, Dustin started to play with some soil before remembering a technique that Sensei taught Earth ninjas.
Sitting criss-cross, Dustin cleared his mind, only focused on the Earth beneath him. Thanks to having some of his elemental abilities still from Draintron, Dustin was able to center himself before placing his palms to the ground.
Feeling the tectonic plates beneath him, Dustin concentrated hard before slamming his hands onto the ground.
From there, a vibration traveled through both tunnels. The seismic sense was somewhat Dustin hadn't relied on in sometime but it has never failed him before.
The vibration traveled through both of the tunnels before the right one came to a stop while the left one continued and 'showed' a chamber.
Deciding it was better than nothing else, Dustin got back to his feet, dusting his hands off and entered the left tunnel.
Arriving at the chamber, Dustin took a whiff of the Earth. "Man, it smells like rich soil. Which means… there should be a surface. Hopefully this gets me back to the group."
Performing his Earth sneak attack, Dustin dug his way through the dirt, aiming up. Bursting from the dirt, Dustin looked around to see another tunnel before him. "Ah man." He groaned, realizing he was back at the beginning it seems.
A thick fog was expelled and the Earth ninja was blinded from his surroundings.
...
Hunter and Blake continued to dodge the bolts but they kept striking nonstop. Each time getting closer and closer.
"What's up with this freaky weather?" Hunter asked aloud. He dodged a lightning strike and was back to back with Blake.
"Don't know. But I think someone is trying to fry us." Blake commented as they heard another thunderclap and a lightning strike speared towards them.
In an act of desperation, Blake held out his fingers and the lightning was absorbed into a blue electricity by Blake. The Bradley brothers looked curiously at the action before Hunter noted, "Wait, if we can absorb it…"
"Then it won't harm us." Blake finished.
Another bolt of lightning speared towards them and Hunter held his hand out, absorbing it. He shook his hand before noting that the lightning strikes have slowed down. "Looks like the lightning is calming down."
"Then we must be doing something right." Blake mentioned as he absorbed another bolt of lightning, turning it navy.
The two Thunder Rangers continued to deflect or absorb the lightning strikes nonstop. Once the last bolt of lightning was absorbed by the brothers, the rain came to an abrupt stop.
"Is that all?" Hunter remarked, expecting something else.
"Don't jinx it, bro." Blake mentioned. The blanket of fog appeared and it obscured the Thunder Rangers vision and surroundings again.
...
Cam grunted as he was hit by the spirit of his mother. The Watannabe son tried to fight back with blocks but the ghost phased through and struck with her bokēn every time.
Cam did a backflip, dodging another attack as the apparition glared, "You stole my amulet…"
"That's not true!" Cam refuted. "It was given to me! Willingly!"
"You stole… are you really worthy?"
Cam dodged the incoming attacks. He grunted as the spirit continued to talk.
"You were jealous… of the others… using their Ninja powers… while you did nothing…"
Cam didn't let the words phase him, "Stop talking!" He threw a roundhouse which just phased through the spirit. The spirit proceeded to glare at Cam with her eyes shining green.
"Jealous of the Rangers… jealous of them being chosen…" The ghost of his mother continued to mock, using her bōken to constantly strike Cam all over.
A clean strike had Cam being sent into the center of the torches. The spirit now hovered slowly.
"Mom… please…" Cam shakily said, exhausted from the attacks and dodging. The spirit didn't say anything as she still approached. The bokēn was slowly glowing more and more green by the second.
Cam tried to find the logic about his current predicament. But since he was on borrowed time seeing as his mother's spirit was upon him. Letting out a sigh, he began to tell the truth.
"You're right." Cam admitted and the ghost stopped approaching. "I was jealous. Jealous that Shane, Tori, and Dustin, the three most unlikely candidates in the history of Wind Ninja Academy, became Power Rangers. But then… They impressed me. Even with bringing Hunter and Blake into the team." Cam let his shoulders sag as the weight began to lift off his chest.
"Look, I admit I was tired of being underestimated as the genius of the team. The idea of me being unworthy of the Samurai morpher is a possibility. But you…" He looked up to the apparition, "You told me that it was its rightful owner. And that means it's in the right hands. I'm doing this to save Blue Bay Harbor and the rest of the world from my uncle's wrath. Please understand that." Cam appealed to the apparition.
They stared at each other for what felt like minutes. The bōken lost its glow and the torches were put out. The spirit removed her mask and gave a kind smile.
"It is alright. You have more than proven worthy of your own ninja powers. Jealousy did not consume you and you are fighting for the greater good to put an end to your uncle's madness." She slowly faded away after her declaration. "The Samurai powers… they suit you well."
Once the apparition faded away fully, Cam slumped his shoulders. While he managed to ward off the apparition, it was true what he said. He had been jealous before the Rangers lost their powers the first time and went on his trip to the past to obtain the Samurai amulet. He was eager, and they accepted him with ease into the Ranger ranks.
He felt… happy they embraced not as the tech-head but as a fellow ninja. As much as he wouldn't say it out loud, the Rangers grew on him.
The heavy fog set in around Cam, causing him to look around. And once again, his surroundings were obscured.
The fog began to clear and the Rangers were able to see each other again.
"Dudes!" Dustin cheered.
"Tori!"
"Blake!"
"Cam!"
"Hunter!"
"Dustin!"
"Shane!"
The Rangers all smiled and gave each other's hugs at being reunited. "Man, I gotta say, great to see we are still here. And not on a cliff."
"Cliff? I had a massive wave to conquer." Tori remarked.
"Not as bad as a thunderstorm." Hunter added.
"Or ghosts from your own mother." Cam muttered.
"Wonderful work! Wonderful work indeed!"
The Rangers were confused at the voice before the entire cave vanished and they were a Japanese temple area with cherry blossoms.
"I knew you would be able to harness your elements to your abilities and master your challenges." A ninja with blue armor around himself stated proudly.
"Who's the ninja?" Shane questioned with a suspecting glare.
"Dudes, that's Ninjor!" Dustin exclaimed.
"Indeed, Earth ninja. I am the magnificent and grand ninja master himself, Ninjor!" Ninjor greeted them with a traditional bow after boasting about himself.
"That's Ninjor?" Hunter remarked. "I pictured a wise old man like in one of those karate films."
"I am wise and powerful beyond any of those old masters in those films, Thunder ninja." Ninjor countered.
"Why do you call us by our elements?" Tori quizzed.
"Because unlike regular humans, ninjas from the academies are far easier to establish Ninjetti with. Especially Power Rangers." Ninjor explained. "Now come, I can feel your Ninjetti within you."
The ninjas looked at each other before following the Ninja master inside of the temple.
"Wait, if you know we were from the academies, why didn't you come to help when the academies were under attack?" Blake questioned, folding his arms.
Ninjor turned around, "Contrary to what you believe, the other Ninja academies also suffered. Not just Wind and Thunder. The Fire Ninja Academy, the Nature Ninja Academy, the Cosmic Ninja Academy, and many others suffered before Lothor attacked the Wind and Thunder Academies. I tried to intervene, but due to the words of the Scroll of Destiny, I was defeated. Not to mention, their dark Ninja arts hail from another galaxy and despite my skills, I was overpowered."
The ninja Rangers took a moment to accept that truth before Ninjor regained his spirit. "But you six are holding your own against Luthor's forces for so long now. You definitely have my respect. I've secretly watched from afar with my crystal ball."
"Wait, you were the one who put us through those challenges?" Hunter inquired.
"Indeed! Normally, I do not create such challenges but Ninjetti will empower your elements. Each challenge was best suited for your element or skills." Ninjor replied before rounding them off, "Air Ninja, honing your skills of wind. Water Ninja, conquering a mighty wave. Earth Ninja, sensing the ground below you. Thunder Ninjas, harnessing the power of the storm. And Samurai, facing a possible truth."
The ninjas shared a glance at each other, realizing the ninja master had put them through trials and admittedly did harness their abilities. "Now then, that's enough dilly-dallying. Let us access your dormant Ninjetti. Gather around me." Ninjor instructed. The ninjas did so and Ninjor sat crossed legged, chanting an ancient language. A bright glow appeared before the ninjas and several orbs appeared before the Rangers. Ninjor rose up and began to speak.
"Air Ninja! Free as the sky! The hawk ninjetti is yours." Ninjor stated.
Shane held his hands to air, feeling his elemental advantage over air increase stronger than before. A medallion of a hawk appeared before him which he took.
"Water Ninja! Graceful as the sea! The dolphin ninjetti calls to you."
Tori did the same motion and the power of water within was raging more powerful. A medallion of a dolphin appeared before her and she took it in stride.
"Earth Ninja! Loyal and formidable like the Earth! The lion ninjetti belongs to you."
Dustin tried to contain his excitement as the power of Earth shook within him. He took the lion medallion and was ecstatic but calmed down realizing he was in front of the ninja master.
"Navy Thunder Ranger! Crimson Thunder Ranger! You have struggled in the past but both have been resilient. Both you have struck gold with your new allies. Crimson, I grant the fierce and determined badger ninjetti! Navy, I grant the surge with power, eel ninjetti!"
Blake and Hunter did the same as the Wind Rangers, obtaining their medallions. Their affinity for thunder was amplified .
"Samurai Ranger! Cunning, swift, and intelligent. I know your mother would be proud that you have inherited her power. I grant the leopard ninjetti within you to grow like your Samurai power."
Cam, for a moment, was briefly touched by Ninjor's implication that his mother would be proud. He took the leopard medallion and was greeted with a flash of green. He looked at his Samurai Morpher which reacted as it gained energy.
The Ninja Rangers felt their medallions and the power of Ninjetti flow through them. Ninjor watched in pride before declaring, "Excellent. Now your power has been amplified with Ninjetti coursing through you. Now! It's best if you put these powers to aid in defeating Luthor's army and stop his schemes!"
"We won't let you down." Shane declared as the Ninja Rangers left the Temple of Power.
In Blue Bay Harbor, the chosen generals arrived and were causing chaos.
"Feel the power of air!" A gorilla with a grill-like chest bellowed. Beating its chest, Fryemian unleashed a devastating gust of wind that blew over several cars.
"The wrath of water!" A serpentine-like monster hissed. Waving its arms back and forth, Brinepent drew water from a nearby fountain and waved the stream above its head. With a hurl, the water splashed about and a wave came crashing down that corralled people.
"Might of Earth!" A voice said from underground and that sank several food stands. The monster appeared, shown as an armadillo-like creature with a large mole face and claws, and gave a growl. Subarmadole watched in glee as people ran away.
"The thunder at my fingertips!" A being with a thundercloud appearance rumbled. Pointing its fingertips, the elemental power was unleashed ten folds, striking buildings that damaged their foundations. Thundergeist was more than pleased at the destruction.
A group of people were fleeing when a black blur intercepted their pathway. An imposing alien monster with the appearance of a malicious dark-armored samurai with sharp fangs and yellow iris landed. Eyeing the group, Bushidotom threw his sword and pointed it forward. "It is pointless to flee." He spoke as the Samurai power flowed through him. He sent an arc of Samurai power that had the group, who were spared but it was clear it was nothing more than a threat.
Meeting in the town center, all of the generals -sans Bushidotom given his no-nonsense attitude- cheered at their attempts of scaring the residents of Blue Bay Harbor.
"Hahahaha! Look at these pathetic humans!" Fyremian chortled.
"They act like they haven't faced the power of their saviors!" Brinepent snarled.
"Oh! Just let me sink them with my Earth power!" Subarmadole insisted, rubbing his claws with glee.
With the powers of their general's mortal enemies, the generals were unstoppable and could wreck Blue Bay Harbor before sundown.
"Can we cut in?" Shane said from above as he, Tori, and Dustin arrived on their Ninja Gliders and descended. The Samurai Star Chopper flew into view and Cam exited the cockpit. Two blurs, one crimson, one navy, darted from building to building before landing on the ground to reveal Hunter and Blake.
The five generals glared at the Ninja Rangers' arrival. "Well, call me a whirlwind! The Rangers are back!" Thundergeist mocked.
"They must really want their powers back to the point they want to be destroyed!" Brinepent gloated.
"As if we give up these abilities! Lothor and Draintron made the right choices in deciding who gets what." Fryemian declared.
Bushidotom looks at the six Rangers, "They are not completely powerless. There is an unfamiliar energy surging through them." He made note of.
"So what?" Subarmadole taunted, "It wouldn't do them any good!"
"Is that a challenge?" Shane rebutted as the Rangers got ready. Holding their medallions out, they channel their element and Ninjetti together and recited what they had been told.
"I am the hawk! Free as the sky!"
"I am the dolphin! Graceful as the sea!"
"I am the lion! Loyal and formidable!"
"I am the badger! Fierce and determined!"
"I am the eel! Surging with power!"
"I am the leopard! Cunning and swift!"
Their medallions were applied to their uniforms and gave off a wave of energy. "Let's go!" Shane shouted and the forces clashed.
Shane and Fryemian meet with their powers of Air. Fryemian's tornado was strong but Shane darted out of the way and slashed with his Ninja sword. Fryemian reeled back in pain as Shane continued unleashing an assault with his air skills.
Tori weaved out of Brinepent's water blast from a nearby fountain. Doing a cartwheel, Tori continued to dodge each blast of water before holding her hands out and redirecting a water blast at Brinepent, which soaked him.
Dustin and Subarmadole met each other underneath the surface. Subarmadole was a wrecking ball but Dustin surrounded his fist in hardened minerals and delivered a punch that knocked the general back.
Hunter and Blake tag teamed against Thundergeist. Thundergeist hovered in the air and fired bolts of lightning at the brothers who used their Thunder Shields to absorb it and redirect it towards the general.
Cam and Bushidotom dueled with their respective blades. Bushidotom's weapon gleamed with green energy and was winning in a weapon lock. Cam however, gained a boost of power and overpowered the phantom samurai before throwing quick jabs into the warrior.
Fryemian beat his chest and sent a vortex, leading Shane to reposition himself. He held up his hands to block the vortex as Fryemian beat his chest more and more. The more Fryemian continued to pound his chest, the stronger the vortex got.
"Hah!" Fryemian gloated, "I'm gonna blow you right off your feet!"
"It takes more than a breeze to keep me down!" Shane retorted and rushed through the wind. With his hawk Ninjetti empowering him, he was able to withstand the vortex and struck Fryemian in the chest.
Fryemian's vortex was canceled and Shane began to rapidly slash to no end at the one with his elemental abilities. "Now to show you why the hawk rules the air!" Shane landed on the ground and sprinted around Fyremian. Eventually the wind picked up and Fyremian was levitating in the make-shift tornado.
"Hey, put me down!" Fyremian yelled. Shane didn't answer and began to climb the tornado himself. He had his ninja sword ready and sliced in an upward direction that both ended the tornado and critically injured Fyremian. The air ninja landed with grace while Fyremian hit the ground hard.
Tori gracefully dodged each water strike that Brinepent threw at her. Moving like her ninjetti animal spirit, she kept her distance from the serpentine general. Brinepent was growing agitated by this and conjured an array of bubbles. "Taste my bubbles!"
"Seriously? That's the best you can do?" Tori remarked and rolled her eyes, seeing her abilities be put to little use. Getting her Sonic Fin, she fired a sound blast that popped the incoming bubbles and hit Brinepent in the process.
"Try riding this wave!" Tori waved her hands and water from the fountain surrounded around her. She created a stream of water that trapped Brinepent in its current. Then, like she was surfing and as graceful as her dolphin ninjetti, Tori rode the stream and used her Ninja Sword to rapidly strike Brinepent back over and over again. Tori eventually jumped over and rose her hand up that caused the stream to erupt like a geyser, sending Brinepent into the air, where he failed and hit the ground.
"That's how you properly use my element." Tori countered, watching the serpent general on the ground.
Dustin hugged the side of the tunnel as Subarmadole came rolling through. The Earth ninja spun against the tunnel's walls, covering himself in an Earth-like armor. Dustin peeled himself off before using his duplication technique.
"Two Yellow Rangers? More to crush!" Subarmadole exclaimed and hit the ground. Sending a wave of geothermal energy, the two ninjas were struck only to reveal they were neither the real Dustin.
Caught off guard, Dustin emerged from the wall with his Lion Hammer and swung it hard in the chest of mole general. Sent flying through the tunnel, Subarmadole recovered and curled up into his ball, taking off to flatten the Yellow Ranger.
Stancing himself like his formidable lion ninjetti, Dustin placed a hand to the wall before his fist was surrounded in hardened minerals. At the incoming Earth general, Dustin threw a haymaker that struck Subarmadole so hard, he was sent out of the ground.
"Now I know why ladies love jewels." Dustin whistled, looking at the minerals around his hand.
"The forecast calls for a heavy lightning storm!" Thundergeist announced as his lower half became a looming thundercloud. He fired tons of lightning at the two Thunder Rangers who dodged the various strikes.
"This feels familiar!" Hunter recalled.
"Lucky for us, we know how to handle it!" Blake stated. One bolt was heading for the Navy Ranger, who combined his eel ninjetti with his thunder abilities and absorbed the bolt. "Thanks for the boost!" Blake fired the redirected lightning and managed to electrocute Thundergeist.
The thunder being was fried from the bolt before Hunter took out his Crimson Blaster, firing away at Thundergeist. The general of thunder was hit all over before Hunter jumped into the air and swapped his blaster for a Thunder Staff. Bringing it down with the ferocity of his badger ninjetti, Hunter delivered a decent blow to Thundergeist, ceasing the thunderstorm.
Using their antennas on their helmet, the Bradley brothers unleashed a full blast of mixed crimson and navy lightning that electrocuted Thundergeist, sending the general skidding against the ground.
Cam and Bushidotom continued their duel, neither letting up. Both warriors were on even ground and matching Cam ducked underneath a strike and landed a blow before the phantom samurai delivered one back. Cam sidestepped the second blow and did a quick leg sweep but the phantom samurai jumped to avoid it.
Bringing out his katana, Bushidotom let it glow green before swinging it, sending arcs of green energy towards Cam. The Green Ranger crossed his arms, taking the arcs but remained strong. Once Bushidotom was done, Cam took it up a notch.
"Super Samurai Mode!" Cam flipped his helmet and discarded his shield. He concentrated and lunged with swift blows.
Channeling the leopard ninjetti, he was able to deflect any incoming attacks while dishing hits. He grabbed the arm of the phantom samurai and disarmed the katana before landing a roundhouse. Cam continued by leaping into the air, drawing his own saber and slicing downard.
"You fight quite well." Bushidotom commented as he reeled in pain.
"Glad you think so." Cam acknowledged before running in and landing a powerful strike to the phantom samurai's chest, enough to send him flying back. "Nice to know, one of my uncle's generals has a sense of honor."
The empowered generals all huddled back together as they licked their wounds. "I thought these ninjas were supposed to be weaker!" Fyremian groaned.
"We have their powers! Why are we still losing!?" Brinepent wailed.
"Their new powers are the problem." Bushidotom clarified. "We are at a disadvantage."
"Thanks for the tip," Thundergeist sarcastically commented. While this was going on, the Ninja Rangers combined their weapons.
"Thunderstorm Cannon!" The Ninja Rangers announced. "Cam, join in!"
"Right!" The green samurai said and hopped behind them.
"Everyone, concentrate and unleash your Ninjetti!" Shane instructed. The ninjas did just that and their elemental powers combined with their Ninjetti added to the charged blast from the combined weapon.
"FIRE!"
The elemental combination orb was fired and joined with six spiritual beasts: a red hawk, a blue dolphin, a yellow lion, a crimson badger, a navy eel, and a green leopard.
They all attacked before the generals which ended in an explosion, ending their existence. With them defeated, the respective elements returned back to their hosts.
"No! No! NO!" Drainton complained as it stomped onto the scene. Seeing the five empowered generals get destroyed didn't help its morale from when it first attacked.
"Alright, time to take out the janitor!" Dustin said, eager to take out Draintron.
"You will regret that and I will obtain your powers again!" Draintron declared.
"Not this time! Ninja Shadow Strike!" The Ninja Rangers shouted and Draintron was hit nonstop from all angles by the Rangers. After the attack, the Rangers still had some more fire to pour on.
Shane fired his Hawk Blaster, landing various hits at Draintron. Dustin brought his Lion Hammer down, smashing the vacuum appendage so the robot couldn't drain their powers again.
"Navy Antlers!" Blake shouted, grasping the robot before lifting and hurling it away. Cam got in by ninja-streaking and landed rapid blows at the airborne machine.
Hunter slashed with his Thunder Staff, landing four strikes before charging up crimson lightning and delivered a downward strike that had Draintron reeling in pain.
Draintron began to glitch from the amount of attacks he received. Tori summoned water from the fountain and sent a deluge that dragged Draintron away.
"Now let's end this janitor!" Shane shouted. They all pointed two fingers forward and said, "Ninja Beams!"
Red, yellow, blue, and green beams combined with crimson and navy lightning spiraled together before destroying Draintron all together.
A Scroll of Empowerment descended and caused Draintron to grow to a giant form. "Now I'll be able to not just vacuum you, but Blue Bay Harbor all together!"
"That's what you think!" Shane declared.
The Zords arrived on the scene and formed the Hurricane Megazord.
"Take this!" Draintron fired several blasts that pelted the Megazord. The Ninja Rangers gripped their controls and activated the ninja star weapons. Throwing them in rapid succession, Draintron was sliced by ninja stars.
"Typhoon Power!" The Rangers got their Power Discs and inserted them into the zord. The hydraulics within the zord began to work overtime and the red star on the chest began to spin rapidly, creating enough force to send a typhoon barreling towards Draintron.
The tropical storm was enough to fully damage the automaton, "Darn you, Rangers-" He shut down and fell forward before exploding, officially signaling his defeat. The Ninja Rangers cheered at their victory.
"Man, this Ninjetti power is the bomb!" Shane cheered as they returned to Ninja Ops.
"Who would have thought our Zords would have been our own ninjetti spirits?" Tori intoned.
"Well, at least yours are modeled after your zords." Hunter interjected. "I don't think we'll find a random badger zord anytime soon."
"Forget the Zords, did you see us today?!" Dustin exclaimed, bouncing all over. "I think we put the 'Power' in Power Rangers!"
"I agree with Dustin." Sensei applauded, "Your Ninjetti skills have helped your own ninja abilities. Lothor's army will become stronger and deadlier than before. But with your new skills, Lothor will be struggling to conquer Earth."
Cam was lost in thought as he held the Samurai Amulet. Ninjor's words echoed in his head as he thought back to what he said about his mom being proud of him. He sniffled a little but composed himself as he watched his fellow Rangers going on and on about their Ninjetti. Cam just shook his head in amusement, having grown used to the antics of his friends and went to join them in the celebration of another victory over his uncle's army.
Notes:
A/N: And here is the second part of Ninjetti Storm. This was meant to be out last month but I was getting sidetracked with other things like job hunting and volunteering.
Shane, Tori, and Dustin had obvious choices for their Ninjetti. Cam's was some inspiration from "Crimson Rising" but in that story, he had a snow leopard. Here it is just a regular leopard. Hunter's was the badger since he was the more brooding one of the group at first and defending his brother since their parents' death. Blake was more difficult. I went with the eel since he seems to be more proficient in his Thunder training with the Thunder Blade, considering Hunter doesn't own one and from what he said, I interpret it as a high-skill weapon.
The generals were my own creation. And Draintron didn't completely drain the ninja powers, they had some power leftover which was enough to clear their trials from Ninjor.
I also like to think that the Ninjas are more powerful than they are given credit for. Based a few things off of ATLA, mostly with Dustin's seismic sensing and crystallokinesis.
Until next time.
Chapter 5: Tommy and the Energems Part 1
Summary:
What if... Tommy Oliver found the Energems?
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
The Dino Charge Rangers were a team of Power Rangers empowered and bonded to their universe's most powerful items: the Energems.
Said to have bonded to the spirits of Earth's prehistoric inhabitants before their ultimately extinction, the Energems were lost to time but discovered in the year 2015 and discovered by ten people who became the rangers.
While this is true for multiple universes consisting of the Dino Charge Rangers, one universe didn't share the same as they were not chosen…
Rather sought out.
Tommy Oliver, a Legendary Ranger from the age of Zordon, ducked underneath a sword swipe. Putting up his guard, Tommy threw a one-two punch combo, effectively knocking the assailant back.
Fury, an alien bounty hunter with the motif of a lion, roared, "Head over the Energems now, Oliver!" He had been stranded on Earth the day the dinosaurs went extinct and searched for the Energems for the longest time.
Keeping the bag in check, Tommy glared at the alien. "Not a chance, fur face!"
Enraged by the taunt, Fury conducted lightning from his weapon and unleashed it, striking the ground around Tommy. The veteran Ranger flipped away very spryly for his age and continued to run.
Having escaped from Fury, Tommy managed to hop into his jeep and drive off. Looking over his shoulder, the veteran ranger noticed Fury wasn't keeping up and let out a breath of relief. His radio started to act up, which prompted him to answer.
"Go for Tommy," He answered.
"Please tell me you found them." A voice asked on his radio.
"Don't worry, Kendall. I've got them." Tommy replied as he did a quick check to see five Energems: red, blue, green, black, and pink. "I got a total of five."
"That's good enough for me." Kendall responded, "Now all we need is the other five."
"Yeah, but we need to do more research." Tommy said, "I just fought something else that wants the power for himself. Or at least I hope because if he's just a general of the one who really wants them…" He shuddered at the idea.
"I'm close to narrowing down the Gold Energem. At least I think so." Kendall informed him. "But right now, it's imperative you get back to the museum."
"You read my mind." Tommy remarked and headed straight for his destination.
...
Arriving at the Amber Beach Museum, Tommy parked his jeep and hopped out. However he was greeted with the infamous skateboarder near the premises.
Rolling his eyes, Tommy exited his vehicle as he parked and walked over. "Chase, how many times have I told you not to skate on the museum's grounds?"
Chase Randall, who just came to a stop, spotted him and addressed, "Oh! Hey, Dr. Oliver. What's the occasion, mate?"
Tommy sighed and pointed to a sign that clearly stated NO SKATING, SMOKING, LOITERING, OR VANDALISM.
"… I swear that the sign is new." Chase tried to defend himself.
"You already used that one." Tommy refuted.
"Um… I was just leaving."
"Also used that one."
"I was picking medication for my mom."
Tommy raised an eyebrow at that one. "You and I both know that's not true."
"Shoot!" Chase swore underneath his breath. "What do you have in that head? A mental list of every excuse I've ever used?"
"More like I know the obvious." Tommy said, "You should know where my office is by now." Chase sighed as he followed the professor into the museum.
Riley Griffin entered the museum with his eyes peeled. He came from his family's ranch but he wanted more than that. He often was caught daydreaming about being a musketeer or knight. However, he was here for a proper internship. His family was doing their best to keep the ranch afloat but a greedy investor was looking to turn the ranch and the woodlands into a new neighborhood. Riley thought he could get an internship at the museum and help provide for the time being.
Approaching the front desk, he introduced himself, "Hi, I'm Riley Griffin. I heard there was a job opportunity."
The receptionist didn't look up and said, "Did you apply online?"
"Well… um… no, I live on a ranch, but I saw a flyer and-"
"We only take online applications at the moment. Please submit yours through the website." The receptionist explained.
Riley looked sullen before Tommy walked over, "Don't worry. I can help you." The professor said, "This way."
"Thank you." Riley nodded and followed both Tommy and Chase. Riley had a quick look up and down at Chase before the skateboarder noticed the mild ogling and smirked, "Like what you see, mate?"
Riley, slightly flustered, quickly shook his head and followed Tommy and Chase to the office.
Further inside, Tyler Navarro had a map in his hand. Not one for the museum but one for a different location. His puzzled expression was enough for some of the employees to question him.
"He seems lost." Shelby Watkins noted as she stood near the Triceratops skeleton.
"Well, he is reading a topographic map in a museum." Dakota 'Koda' Tien added as he joined her.
"Cut him some slack." Shelby chided. "I'm going to ask."
"Shelby, typically guests ask us for help, not the other way around." Koda reminded her.
"Well…" Shelby trailed off and Dakota realized something, "Oh~ You think he's cute."
"Koda!" Shelby snapped and playfully slapped his arm as Koda laughed. The pink-clad girl was blushing with embarrassment, confirming the unspoken attraction.
"Dakota. Shelby." Tommy greeted as he passed them with Chase and Riley following behind. He noticed Tyler with his map and asked, "Any chance you can help the man over there? Because this is a museum, not an orientation place."
"Yes, sir, Dr. O." Dakota and Shelby said before the former whispered, "Looks like you get to talk to him after all." Shelby's face was bright red again.
"Come on…" Tyler said, reading his map.
"Hi, Sir." Shelby greeted, "Looking for something?"
Tyler turned around and saw Shelby and Dakota for the first time. "Oh… yeah." He looked down at his map again, "I was just looking for a certain cave around here."
"Where is it?" Dakota asked and Tyler pointed to the spot. "Hmmm… Looks like Sampson Caves but I could be wrong."
"Why are you looking there?" Shelby asked and Tyler's face almost fell at the question.
"I'm looking for my dad. He's been gone for about 10 years and this was his last known location."
"Oh… I'm sorry." Shelby said. The two employees felt guilty at the look on Tyler's face.
"It's alright," Tyler responded with a sad smile, "You didn't know."
"How about we go ask Dr. Oliver about some clues?" Koda offered.
"Dr. Oliver probably does know more about formations than we do." Shelby intoned.
"If it's anything to go by." Tyler agreed and followed the two employees. 'Don't worry, dad. I'll find you.'
"Dr. Oliver, wait!" Dakota called for the professor.
Dr. Oliver held back a groan. He really needed to give these Energems to Kendall but the interruptions just kept coming. "What is it?"
"Do you know anything about the Sampson Caves?" Tyler asked.
Dr. Oliver thought for a moment before replying, "Yes. A few things. What for?"
"He's looking for his dad." Shelby clarified.
Tommy's look somewhat softened. He remembered trying to find his brother during the whole Machine Empire invasion, so he decided to help. "Alright. I'll tell you what I know and how to get there. Shelby, Dakota. Escort him to my office." The two employees nodded and headed towards Dr. Oliver's office while Tommy went elsewhere for the time being.
…
"When I said get back here, I didn't mean to bring some teenagers with you." Kendall Morgan lightly scolded Dr. Oliver.
"I was going to get Chase's mom on the phone, Tyler is looking for a certain place that Dakota and Shelby were going to help with, and Riley is here for a potential job opening." Dr. Oliver explained as he unveiled the briefcase. They were in a secluded part of the offices.
"Well, at least you have the Energems." Kendall said and Tommy opened it. To their surprise, they began to shine. "You didn't tell me you found potential candidates."
"That's because I didn't." Tommy responded, somewhat surprised. Kendall reached for the pink Energem but nothing happened to her. "Well, there goes my guess."
Tommy, for the sake, picked the black Energem to test his theory which was proven correct as he didn't feel the powers flow through him. "So it's not us then."
"Then who?" Kendall asked. Tommy looked briefly at the five teenagers in his office and sharply inhaled.
"I have a sneaking suspicion."
Kendall looked between Tommy and the five teenagers in his office, putting two and two together. "You cannot be serious." She groaned.
"Kendall, when I was a ranger, we were just teenagers too." Tommy defended.
"Yes, but you also had experience in fighting. Not to mention you were manipulated." Kendall commented. "These five probably don't know how to throw a punch, let alone defend themselves."
"As Zordon once said, the Grid works in mysterious ways." Tommy quoted. He took the briefcase with him as he headed towards the office. Kendall sighed and followed him in.
Opening his office door, Tommy and Kendall entered, the former with his briefcase in hand. "Alright, so let's make this simple." Tommy began, "Tyler, what brings you to Amber Beach Museum?"
"I'm looking for the Sampson Caves." Tyler explained, "Clues to where I can find my dad hopefully." Tommy nodded then turned his attention to Riley. "And you?"
Being in the spot, Riley straightened his posture, "I'm here for a possible job opportunity, Mr. Oliver."
Tommy waved off the Mr. part before looking at Chase, "And I suppose you know why you are here."
"Loitering isn't something the police need to get involved with, mate." Chase replied in a nonchalant tone.
Tommy rolled his eyes while Kendall was unimpressed. These five couldn't possibly be the ones chosen with these dangerous artifacts.
"I understand you three… rather five," Tommy added, gazing in Dakota and Shelby's direction. "Have different goals or hobbies. But right now, I have a different offer for all of you."
Tommy opened the briefcase and presented the red, pink, black, blue, and green Energems to Tyler, Shelby, Chase, Dakota, and Riley respectively.
"What are these…" Shelby asked as she eyed the pink Energem.
"They are called Energems." Tommy answered. "The reason I'm showing you this… is because you have been chosen."
"Chosen? Chosen to do what?" Riley questioned. All he was looking for was to have a job to support his family's ranch.
"Chosen… to become Power Rangers." Tommy revealed to the gathered teenagers.
Said teenagers were in shock at the reveal. The Power Rangers were a huge deal. Modern-day superheroes right out of comic books since their first reveal in 1993. Since then, new teams have formed and defended their local cities from monsters, aliens, demons, evil ninjas, and more.
"Wait, like actual Power Rangers!?" Tyler exclaimed.
"I thought they were an urban legend." Dakota mentioned.
"An urban legend? Are you kidding me, mate?" Chase remarked.
"The Power Rangers are the real deal!" Tyler said, clearly elated.
"Trust me, they are." Tommy said, "I went to Angel Grove High when the Power Rangers first appeared in the public." Tommy omitted the part of him playing a role in the appearance.
"But why us?" Shelby asked which made Kendall snort in amusement.
"Yes, that is the question of the day." The director commented which made Shelby narrow her eyes at Kendall. Kendall had always undermined Shelby so they never saw eye-to-eye. It wasn't sure if it was jealousy due to Shelby's somewhat rich legacy of the Watkins ice cream industry.
"I know it's crazy but me and Kendall have been doing research on these Energems for years now." Tommy clarified. "Make no mistake, they chose you. Not the other way around."
The five teenagers were processing this with thoughtful looks on their faces. Seeing this take some time, Tommy closed the briefcase. "I'll give you some time to process this. Get some air but don't leave the museum before I get your answer. You're dismissed."
...
From Earth's orbit, a brown plated spacecraft hovered about. The spaceship's pilot and owner glared from the viewing deck at the planet.
"So this is where those fabled Energems are said to be hidden." Sledge, the ruthless bounty hunter, snarled, "They shall be mine!"
Wrench, the ship's mechanic and engineer, approached Sledge, "Master Sledge, I thought you had sent Fury here eons ago? Why are we approaching it now?"
"Fury is a skilled warrior who should no doubt have the Energems at this point. I gave him enough time already. It's about time he should deliver them to me." Sledge said.
"I personally don't see why you should get that furball back." Poisonadra, Sledge's wife, said. "He and I never really got along. I think it's better for him to stay on this planet for the rest of his life!"
"My precious little pookie-bear," Sledge cooed, switching his scary demeanor to a soft one -only used for his wife-, "While I would love to agree with you, Fury's deadline has come to an end. He is my best soldier after all."
Poisonadra hated to frown -since she declared it gave her wrinkles- but hated Fury even more.
Speaking of the devil, Fury's spaceship approached Sledge's, much to the bounty hunter's malicious intent. Fury had never let him down before, always delivering when it counted.
The second-in-command connected his ship and entered, storming through the gates of the many bounties his master had obtained. No doubt they were going to be sold soon.
"Fury!" Sledge cheered before immediately getting to business, "Where are the Energems?"
"I have searched long and hard to find them but I have been eluded each and every time." Fury explained which made Sledge growl. "Please Master Sledge, allow me to have a few more months."
"I've given you more than enough time… And you haven't even got one Energem!" The bounty hunter roared and lunged at his top general.
Fury was slammed into a wall as Sledge had him by the throat with his blaster to his head, "I should end you here and now."
"Oh, do it, Sledgums!" Poisonarda said gleefully.
"I… had… five before… you arrived… nearly in… my… possession."
"And what happened?" Sledge threatened with his hand crushing Fury's throat with Poisonarda not even trying to hide her dislike.
"A human… stole… them…." Fury wheezed out.
Sledge almost fired the blaster at that comment. His top general was stopped by a mere human on this planet. Granted this planet was the one to put the end of the United Alliance of Evil but Fury managed to evade the Z-wave since he wasn't a member of the UAE.
With an ounce of remorse, Sledge dropped Fury. "For the first time, I'm disappointed in you, Fury." Sledge snarled as Poisonarda clapped joyfully. Fury held back a glare for his boss' wife.
"The Energems were supposed to be mine! But now they are in the hands of a mere human?!" Sledge vented.
"But he only has five!" Fury argued, trying to find leeway. "Which means only five Energems left to find."
"You mean to tell me that you would have only had five!?" Sledge exclaimed and had his blaster charging up.
"Perhaps! But allow me to create a proposal." Fury offered.
"Tell me what it is before I pull the trigger." Sledge intoned.
Fury knew he wasn't bluffing and explained, "Why not have one of your prisoners prove themselves and send them to attack the city. In an exchange, the human will no doubt hand over the Energems."
Sledge considered this proposal. It would cut out the middle alien. Maybe he would even allow the prisoner to be pardoned and leave his ship. Even if that would cost him his bounty, the Energems were far more valuable than some random hit.
"Fine." Sledge relented, releasing his second in command much to his wife's dismay. "Select a prisoner that will do the job."
Fury massaged his throat for a while, knowing that Sledge's armor enhanced his strength and arsenal. He managed to walk and went down the cells of the rowdy inhabitants. Strolling down, he passed a few imposing ones such as a meteor themed felony, a feathery witch doctor-esque criminal, and one that was
Fury's eyes looked at the dreaded solitary confinement. Fury almost considered releasing him… before realizing that even Sledge wouldn't release him in the open to obtain the Energems.
Fury looked to one cell and found his breath was visible due to the low temperature. That's when he decided on the right alien to bring the Energems.
Notes:
Originally going to be single chapter but I decided to just make it a two-parter.
I have a headcanon that a modern day Koda variant would go by Dakota. Since the actor who plays him is also the brother of the actor of Preston from Ninja Steel, they share the last name.
This would more or less take place during this universes Dino Thunder era.
