Are we or aren’t we?

Summary:

Week 2 prompt: platonic cuddling

After a night out on the town, a non-date as it were, in efforts of trying to mend broken fences. Boil and Waxer do share a bed. Platonically. But is that all to it?

Work Text:

Are we or aren’t we?

“You’re drunk!”

“Am not. You are!”

“Nah… I had fewer than you did. Def… def… definitely fewer!”

“Didn’t…um… realise… you were… keeping count!”

But yeah, they were both totally drunk. Boil and Waxer. Waxer and Boil, pissed, wasted, drunk as skunks as the anecdotes went. The two of them having gotten out on the town in a longest of whiles. As friends. And so things kind of getting out of hand. As they sometimes did.

Waxer and Boil had agreed to be friends ever since their wee undercover op having gone ever so slightly awry. They were both good now. The two having survived not just the ordeal in the dank grotto they had hidden in but also having agreed to be friends again after their rather bad breakup. The two having kind of talked things through while waiting for their pickup and deciding on remaining friends. It was the best decision to make as there certainly was a lot of history between them.

Thankfully the duo had been rescued from the planet eventually with no small thanks to Fives and Echo finally coming through for them. Sud-dermal locators, not exact science as it turned out!

After some time and fashion, Waxer had actually managed to lure Boil to Coruscant. As his job with GAR now officially over, Boil was basically a free agent to do as he pleased with his life. There were a few job prospects, offers really on his table he had considered. But as of yet Boil was still undecided.

Waxer had offered for Boil to stay with him for the time being. Having a small yet functional flat they could easily share while Boil was making his mind up but also looking for his own place. It had taken some persuasion though as Boil had not really been sold on the idea at first. As staying with Waxer, well it brought its set of issues for sure. But the man could be nothing if not persuasive. And so, together they lived for now.

“Look, we’re friends, right. Surely we can manage living together for a while.” Waxer sounded confident enough that they could.

“I know we are. But, we have… well, history between us. Don’t you think it would be awkward? Besides you only got the one bedroom.”

“Well, I can sleep on the sofa and you can have the bed.”

The offer had been rather tempting enough for Boil. After all Coruscant wasn’t exactly known to be cheap for anything. Besides, it would only be temporary. Until Boil made his mind up, choosing the job and getting his own place. Right?

“If you are sure.” Boil started seeing the smile on his friends face growing as he was leaning towards the sharing thing.

“I am. It’ll be great.”

And it had been. The two getting along just fine. Even talking things through. Well, some of the stuff anyway. There were a few words been had there too. Some opinions and concerns voiced out loud. No exactly fights, but yeah, it was mostly good between them.

Boil had finally made up his mind too, having taken a job with the local museum. Having the knack for history, other species of the galaxy and their home worlds, it was a perfect fit for him. But the flat hunting was a whole different story.

“You’ll find the right place soon enough.”

Waxer had felt confident enough to say that. But truthfully, he did not want Boil to leave. Waxer rather enjoying them living together again, even if there was nothing between them except friendship.

Truth being told, Waxer preferred to have Boil around in whatever form he could have him. As long as Boil was there, things would be just fine. Even if he was living in his own flat.

Things were settling, even if there was no luck with a home of his own yet for Boil.

And so, they had gone out on a celebratory night now that Boil had started his new job. Getting perhaps a tad too tipsy, having not really consumed the hard kind of stuff for a while.

And so, here they were, having decided to call it a night and head home. The two leaning into each other, making sure the other could stay up, stand or walk. If not straight, then at least on their legs! (Neither were that, straight after all.)

“I think I need to lie down.” Boil said, feeling the alcohol buzzing in his brain.

“We’re almost there Boil. Hold on that thought for a moment won’t ya.” Waxer was the less drunken of the two for sure, leading Boil towards their still shared home.

As they reached the building, Waxer half carried Boil to their flat, leading him into the bedroom as they got inside. Placing Boil on the bed, making quick removal of the outer layer of clothing before adjusting Boil on a lying position. Checking the man was fine, before picking a glass of water from the refresher and placing it on the nightstand.

Just as Waxer was about to leave the bedroom to go sleep off his own drunkenness on the sofa, he felt a light touch on his arm.

Looking down, he could see Boil eyes wide, staring back at him. Clearly not sleeping.

“Stay with me, please.” The hushed words spoken by Boil something unexpected.

Waxer could only nod, shedding his own clothing hastily before getting under the covers with Boil. Cuddled close too Boil, Waxer’s arms found their familiar way around the other man. Just like in the good old days.

“G’night Wax.”

“Sleep tight love.”

Waxer had not even released the wee slip-up of his words. But Boil had already fallen asleep. The soft snoring an indication of the same.

Waxer smiled softly. Watching Boil sleep for a moment longer, feeling the love he still had for his friend before falling into sleep. His dreams filled with hope of perhaps the friendship turning into something more, just like in the old times.
