Summary:

Week 2 prompt: huddling for warmth/safety.

Huddled for warmth while waiting for that pickup to come after their somewhat easy and surprisingly effortless jailbreak. The two totally having winged it right there on the spot.

There are poor attempts of humour found in this tale.

Well, we got out but where’s that karking pickup you promised?

It had all been a big bloated blur. The jailbreak.

Waxer having sent out a ping to his backup, Echo and Fives via his sub-dermal locator before the dynamic duo started concocting a simple ploy to get out from their predicament. Escaping the cell they were imprisoned in. After all, neither of them took prison life all that well, being confined in a small space and all. Besides, they were both trained soldiers. The best troopers in the galaxy! So they could totally pull it off!

And what exactly did Boil and Waxer do?

Well, faking an ailment but of course. So simple and so elegant. An oldie but a goodie. And besides, it always seemed to work! So why break a perfect record. This was hardly their first jailbreak, perhaps not even their last!

“Guards! We need a medic!” Boil shouted out through the hissing red glowing ray-shield.

Their jailers did not need to be hollered at twice. On of them half running into the brig as soon as Waxer had started moaning like some holo porn-star mid release. Only this time it was supposedly out of pain and not… well… the math was there to do for anyone housing half a brain. Thankfully, their guards did not. House a brain. Half or otherwise. Falling right into the duo’s trap.

It was also becoming somewhat obvious the two troopers had some value for the alleged underground movement brewing on the planet. As clearly them not wanting their priced prisoners to die of something like a stomach ache? Most likely the guards being after some kind of reward for the two troopers?

Boil could not help but roll his eyes even if the rather familiar noises elicited by his former partner had certainly roused a few memories in him. Not to mention the half forgotten chills sent down Boil’s spine at the very moment the moaning started. The good kind of sensations they were but of course.

“Could you be a tad less obvious?” Boil was hissing to Waxer while trying to control his own sensations, keeping his libido in check.

“Sorry, can’t talk. Totally submerged in the part.” Was Waxer’s simple response. Having been somewhat of a thespian in a few plays during his cadet years. Taking every part small or big seriously. But Waxer did smirk rather wickedly. Most likely sensing Boil’s dilemma. Or smelling it more likely. The cell was pretty small after all.

Boil and Waxer then quickly subdued the officer having rushed to their aid. Not really nice of them, but yeah, nor was their situation. So, out cold the guard went.

“Sleep tight!” Waxer snarled at the guard, while ransacking his stuff.

Confiscating the guard’s weapon and sneaking out of the cell. Leaving the officer back in the cell in their place hoping for a jump start before anyone was the wiser. Thankfully, the local law enforcers were not a vigilant bunch at all. One of them sleeping on duty at the desk while the other two remaining guards were simply chatting away some distance farther from the jailhouse and not even noticing there was a jailbreak going on!

“What a bunch of pros!” Boil snarked, certainly no respect there for the lot.

“This way!” Waxer ordered, the two then heading out to the streets and far away from the small mos and their captors.

“So, what now?” Boil had been dragged through a rough terrain deep into the lush forest part of the planet. Their gear, sans their armour pretty much confiscated having been left behind during their escape. So no food nor drink, their only defence the one weapon of the guard’s they had managed to get in haste.

“Now, we wait.” Waxer had found the perfect spot for them. Clearly having neglected to tell Boil he knew the terrain rather well judging from the way he had quickly moved across the small mos and out of there and into the wilderness. The two now hidden from the view of any onlooker, threading through the lush foliage of the forest.

“How long?” Boil sounded slightly irritated, but at least they were out of the jail even if he wasn’t too fond of threading through the thick nature with errant branches hitting him with every move he made not to mention the bugs buzzing all around.

Why were there always bugs!?!

“Hard to say. Could be a while so we need to get comfortable.” Waxer sounded clipped, not really sure as to the how long. And Boil’s nagging wasn’t helping any. Well, at least they were free!

This, escape, getting their backup, their pickup wasn’t exact science. Far from it. Not really having a means to communicate was causing difficulties. But they had survived worst situations than this, so. Guess some patience was in order.

“So, no idea then.”

“Nope.”

This reminded them of quite a few missions actually. Those during the war. The planets they had visited far from dreamworlds or any other kind of paradise. The two usually having to think their way out of situations where they had gotten stuck due to whatever mistake made by whomever. But during those times, they had had most of their gear at least, a few rations as well. Not to mention a squad with them. Well, most of the time.

“It’s going to get dark soon.” Boil had noticed the daylight fading fast, the cold seeping in.

Waxer glanced around, seeking something they could use as shelter, perhaps even create a fire if they picked a good place. And he quickly spotted something of use.

“Over there! A cave.”

Waxer had indeed located something of a shelter for the two of them just ahead and even on higher ground! They took off heading towards the cave. Scanning the area visually it looked safe enough for them to stay a while in.

“Look, some berries!” Waxer pointed at the bush just at the entrance. But before he could grab one, Boil slapped at his hand and shook his head.

“Let’s wait a while.” Boil having spotted the local fauna, a rodent in the vicinity. He took one berry and chucked it to the rodent, which then sniffed at it and finally, picked it up and ate it gingerly then leaving the two in seemingly good health. “Should be safe for us.”

Waxer was only too glad to have Boil by his side. The other trooper always the vigilante one of the two. As food poisoning certainly wasn’t on his list for this trip! Especially not while out in the wild.

“So, we have shelter and food and… goody! It’s starting to rain. So water?”

“Now all we need is a fire.”

There were small rocks around the ground, the two grabbing some dry twigs they found lying around stacking them into a pile before starting to hammer the sharp rocks together. Only hoping it would work to create the fire. As whatever devices they had had on them, remained in their packs at the jail.

They were lucky once again. As after some effort, Boil managed to get the fire started. It wasn’t big by any means. But they did not dare lighting up a bon fire and give away their position after all. At least the small fire was giving some warmth and light in the darkening eve.

It did not take too long before the two were huddling together both because of the cold surrounding them suddenly, but also out of familiarity. Putting all else aside, the two could only wait for their rescue to arrive.

The mission, scrubbed, true. But they definitely had validated there was something rather fishy going on on this planet. So in a manner of speaking, their mission had been a success. Now only hoping Echo and Fives had actually gotten the ping from Waxer’s device!
