Chapter Text
Cheng's POV:
I woke up in a cold sweat and sat up not realizing I was on the bunk bed…I hit the bottom of the top bunk and help my head as I winced in pain, I heard shuffling from the top where Lu Guang slept and I froze hoping he hadn’t woken up, I held my breath until he stopped moving. I sighed before rubbing my forehead, nights like these have just become more normal ever since I started doing the whole "going back in time" thing. I swear with each new photo we jump into it's like I just get more nightmares it's unbelievable, I’ve tried searching online for ways to stop them but it’s not exactly easy to find an answer for “How to stop nightmares caused by time travel.”
I sighed turning to grab my phone from the side, another night of late-night scrolling, maybe I’d find a solution this time. For a while now I considered asking Qiao Ling or Lu Guang if they knew any ways to help or to just listen to my dreams but y’know…I don’t want to worry them it’s not like I can’t handle most of them but there are times when they can be too graphic for me to bear. This one wasn’t as pleasant as usual, I’d rather not try and remember the details.
I sighed again and looked at the clock “2:34” I said to myself, I held my head rubbing my temples. “I can’t keep doing this, there’s gotta be a way to help me” I groaned before hearing a voice.
“Can’t keep doing what?” Lu Guang said from the top bunk causing me to jump, I thought he fell back to sleep. “Ah…it’s nothing just talking to myself” He stayed quiet for a moment before coming down, he rubbed his eyes before looking at me. “I’ve noticed you wake up almost every night. I want to know what’s wrong with you, you’ve started growing bags under your eyes now.” I shut my eyes, of course, Lu had noticed, I opened them to see Lu still staring at me. I didn’t say anything I just stared back at him.
He looked just as pretty at night as he does during the day. I looked into his eyes, the way he would look at me always made me feel some type of way, how he would slightly narrow them when he was thinking or observing something. It almost made me feel special.
Lu Guang moved and sat next to me, he was leaning as he looked at me from the side. “You’re having trouble sleeping…are you having nightmares?” A faint smile was on my face as I nodded “Yeah I‘ve been having them for a while now, they’re not a big deal though” Lu Guang’s face showed he didn’t believe me. He stayed silent for a minute. “Tell me about it, your nightmare.” I looked at him, hesitant. I sighed before nodding, trying to remember all the pieces of it.
“Remember that one client we had a few months ago? The one who came to us to find out if we could help her find her ex-boyfriend because she thought he was coming for her. I had one about her. I was in her body like normal, the scene was the same when we went in. She had taken the picture of the sky from her window before he came into the room with a knife threatening to dissect her. When he came and charged at me instead of moving like how I did when we did it I was frozen…I couldn’t move and he plunged the knife into my stomach and didn’t stop. It felt so real…like I could feel each stab in my stomach, it felt like it went on forever before I finally woke up.”
I looked at my hand, slightly shaking I closed my eyes again taking a deep breath before flinching. I looked to see Lu Guang holding my hand tightly. “You should start talking more about your dreams, maybe they’d help take that weight off your back if you did.” I chuckled, his hand felt warm, it was a nice feeling just holding onto his hand as if everything was okay. Before I could reply he spoke “I had read online about ways to help someone sleep, one of them was to sleep with someone you trust. Being aware that someone you trust is sleeping with you can put the mind at ease.” He looked down, and I smiled. “Are you saying you want to sleep with me?” I asked already knowing the answer. “Only if you want.” He replied. I nodded going close to the wall on before lying down, Lu lay beside me. He wrapped his hand around my waist pulling me close to him. “Are you sure you read that or is this just an excuse to sleep with me” He stayed quiet before mumbling into my back “Does it matter?” It didn’t, my ears felt warm as I smiled softly again taking in the moment. I found myself falling back asleep, this time without a nightmare.
