Work Text:
Alex:
Alex hated school. Especially music class, where everyone must write a song and perform in front of the whole entire school, everyone. And it's even worse when you get paired up with someone you absolutely hate. And for Alex, the person he hates is none other than,
Miles Kane. Ugh, he can’t stand that name anymore. And when he says anymore, he means, they used to be friends, but now they're not. The funny thing about this is that nobody knows that they hate each other, and that means they always have to pretend that they like each other or something. He didn't want to work with someone who did -
What? Did Miles even do anything? Whatever. Alex thought. But what he's trying to say is:
He doesn't want to work with Miles, yet.
And as Alex was walking out of maths class, he got funny looks from people. Oh yeah, he forgot to mention that Miles is one of the most popular guys in school. In fact, he's so popular that people ask for his autograph in the halls. Alex can't fucking stand him! -
“Oi! You know what time it is?” Some random guy started running towards him, looking out of breath.
“I don't have me phone.” He added on, breathing heavily.
Alex checked his watch. “Shit- It's, uh 2:20! I have music!” He panicked.
“Oh, you have music too?” The older boy asked. “Let me come with you.”
“Sure,” Alex did hesitate, but he did need to go to music to work on his song with Miles.
“Name’s Jamie.” The boy, now named Jamie, spoke up. “Alex,” He replied.
As Alex and Jamie were walking onto the stage, the teacher yelled at them for being late. But one thing, normally Alex would have picked a random spot on the stage but this time he went up to Miles. Why might you ask? Well, maybe Alex has a death wish or something. Or does Alex want Miles to be upset? Thats it. He just wants Miles to have a difficult day. Soon enough Miles will be crying on the floor. Alex thinks, standing right next to Miles.
“Never thought in a million years the Alex Turner would stand next to me.” Miles's laugh echoes in the hollow space of the stage, and he jumps.
Alex sighs and looks up. And finally, he spoke.
“Fine. Miles, do you want to work with me?” Alex says hopeful so he wouldn't be embarrassed. Alex did in fact go closer to Miles just so he’d say yes. Not for any other reason.
Miles:
“No.”
Miles has no clue why he said no. He wanted to say yes, he really did. But something in him made him say no. Well, now that we’re here, Miles has had something on his mind for a bit, a secret.
Miles likes Alex, and Alex doesn't like him back. It's obvious that Alex hates him. But still let's say that they were still friends, Alex would never think about Miles that way, or in any way, to say the least.
“You have to.” Alex deadpanned slightly, looking Miles straight in the eye.
Miles usually would have disagreed with him, but for some reason this time he didn't. Maybe it was the fact that Al was looking at him like that.
“Ok, but only on one condition, you have to do what I say. Also, I'm going to your house tonight.” He explained.
“What? I never agreed with that?” Alex’s eyes widened as he tilted his head.
“No need.” Miles smiled and laughed a bit, then he walked away.
When Alex and Miles were walking to Alex’s house, they started catching up with each other.
“So, Al, I've been meaning to ask, how are you?” Miles actually looked genuine for once. But Alex laughed. I kid you not, he fucking laughed. And Miles loved it, he loved Alex’s laugh. “Just answer the question.” He groaned, pretending that he cared to hear about Alex’s personal life, when in reality all he wanted to hear was his laugh. Alex’s laugh . Then Miles realised that he was staring, not paying attention to what was in front of him.
“Hey, Mi? You can stop looking at me now. Me House ‘s not that far.” Alex stated.
“Huh?” "Oh yeah, right- sorry...” Miles stuttered, and he looked forward. His heart beating fast, probably ‘cause Alex called Miles ‘Mi’ like how he used to. He hasn't called Miles that in a long time. “Anyway, we’re here,” Alex said.
As they’re walking inside Alex’s mum greets them. “Miles! I haven't seen you in forever.” Penny walked up to Miles and hugged him. Miles’s eyes widened; Alex laughed at that. Then she let go. “Well, you boys should get going upstairs.” And off they were, up to Al’s room. It hasn't changed, not one bit. Just like Alex, he loved Alex so much.
Wait. Did he just say he loved Alex? “Shit, I love him.” He thought too loud, that he said it.
Yep, Alex most definitely heard that, seeing that he was standing next to him.
Alex:
Alex definitely heard him. But who was he talking about? Was he talking about Alex? Really, all the signs point to yes. The staring earlier, the stage, whatever the fuck happen in there. The way Miles called Alex ‘Al’ when he hasn't. But Miles still hates him, right? He has to have been talking about someone else. But Alex doesn’t want that. Why doesn’t he want that? Now they’re sitting down next to each other; and Alex, he’s still thinking about how he’s, for some reason, jealous. Miles has had plenty of girlfriends, but he had just said ‘Him’. Miles got to be fucking with him, ‘cause Miles isn't gay. Just like Alex said, he’s had many girlfriends, like a lot. And Alex has never been jealous of them. Why is he just now starting to care about Miles’s love life? Maybe it’s ‘cause Alex doesn't want him to have one. He wants Miles to live a horrible miserable life... Does he though? Huh? Then after a good five minutes, Alex says something.
“Hey, Mi?” Alex hesitated, but he was trying to get the question out of his thoughts.
“Yeah?” Miles sighed, looking up at Alex. He looked like he’d just given up.
“D-Did you say ‘him’?” Oh god, he stuttered. He isn’t nervous . Then why did he stutter?
“Uhm,” Miles again sighed, looking down to the floor again. He’s probably thinking about how he’s going to answer this to someone he hates. Wait, does Miles hate Alex?
“I-I did...” Miles confessed with a somber tone.
Oh shit. Shitshitshitshitshit. He was talking about Alex. He has to have been. There’s no way he wasn’t.
‘Were you talking about me?’ That’s what Alex wanted to say. But he actually said:
“C’mon, let’s work on the project.” And Alex wanted to punch himself, Like really hard.
“Okay,” Miles looked upset. ‘Bout to start crying upset.
