2008
"Mom, why do we always have to come back to New York? Why can't we spend New Years in Beacon Hills this year?" Scott asked, probably for the thousandth time as they headed out to the party that his mom's work paid for every year for working so hard.
"You know the answer to this."
"Yeah, I know. I just wish that I could be around Stiles for once, you know?"
"Of course, but he's in Florida with his Aunt this year remember? Now go have fun," she murmured, ruffling his hair as she gently pushed him towards the party so she could socialize with her coworkers.
"It didn't have to be this year," he muttered to himself, bumping into someone on the way towards the food. "I'm so sorry," he quickly apologized, words getting caught in his throat when the man turned around.
He was extremely attractive, his bright blue eyes instantly ensnaring Scott.
"It's alright. I'm Isaac," the man greeted, extending his hand.
"I'm Scott."
"Nice to meet you Scott," Isaac said, smiling brilliantly.

Scott was just grabbing a drink when someone bumped into him, his fruit punch spilling all over his shirt. Scott turned angrily to scold the person, choking back a laugh when he saw who it was.
"Isaac. right?"
"Yes?" Isaac answered warily, unsure of who he was before recognition seemed to light in his gaze. "Scott, right?"
"Yeah," Scott muttered, flushing in embarrassment.
"We need to stop meeting like this," Isaac stated.
"Yeah, we do."

"Come on! There's no way you did that," Scott shouted, ignoring the few heads that turned his way.
"I did! I really did!" Isaac exclaimed, as if saying it louder would further prove his point.
"Is it weird to say that I was looking forward to seeing you this year? Like I'm never looking forward to coming to New York for New Years, but I was looking forward to it," Scott muttered quite embarrassed with himself for even bringing it up.
"No. I was thinking the same thing," Isaac muttered, cheeks flushing and Scott couldn't help but find it adorable.
"Okay. Good. That means I'm not alone with this feeling," he mutters, feeling himself flush even darker.

"Come on mom, I want to see Isaac!"
"How are you so sure he'll even be here?" she asks, chuckling to herself at her son's excitement.
"He's here every year. I look forward to seeing him every year!"
His mother chuckles, shaking her head at her son's antics, watching as he scans the crowd, eyes widening upon finding the person he was looking for.
"Can I-" he starts, smiling when she nods and she watches as he dashes off to go see the other boy.
"Isaac!" Scott shouts, pulling the boy into a hug when he finally notices Scott.

"This is my last year here," Isaac explains, heart sinking as Scott's face falls.
"What! Why?"
"We are moving away. My dad got a job opportunity elsewhere and it would cost too much to come back to New York every year just so I could see you. I'm sorry," he explains, eyes down as tears fill his eyes.
He refuses to let them fall.
"Where are you going?"
Isaac doesn't get the chance to answer because his father is pulling him away because their flight was early the next day and they wanted to be well rested.
"Bye!" Isaac shouts and Scott watches solemnly as his friend leaves, for what is probably the last time. He'll never get to see Isaac again.

"You have to go, honey," his mother consoles him again.
It really is unfortunate that his friend isn't going to be there anymore, but she can't wait around for him anymore. She has a new nurse coming in that she has to teach the ropes and she needs to get going.
"I know," he mutters as he gets out of the car.
He casts one long look at his mom before going into the building, scanning to see if he can find Stiles, hoping that his best friend could provide some comfort, or at least humor as he drools over Lydia.
His heart stops though, when he sees a familiar mop of hair.
"Isaac!?" he shouts, the man's head turning quickly at the sound of Scott's voice and they are running towards each other, hugging each other tightly.
"Oh my god, I never thought I'd see you again," Scott whispers, almost breathless.
"I didn't either."
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming to California?"
"I didn't have time!" Isaac shouts.
"I don't care. I'm so happy to see you," Scott exclaims and brings Isaac's face to his, kissing him with all the excitement he could muster, hoping to convey that and the world seems to fall quiet around them as they pull apart, closer together than ever.
Scott couldn't be more happy that his mother dragged him to New York for New Years every year if he got to have Isaac by his side for the rest of his life.
