Work Text:
Wonwoo is about to take his motorcycle license exam, he is so excited to finally take it and be able to buy his own vehicle. He is confident in himself and although at first he didn't know if it was a good idea to learn how to ride a motorcycle, Mingyu supported him and encouraged him to do something new.
Who knew that Wonu himself would have refused a couple of years ago to even get on a motorcycle that Min would choose for him? And now he felt that he was really good at riding a motorbike. And Mingyu was right when he suggested it, this new hobby helped him distract himself, to go out and calm his nerves or intrusive thoughts even just during his driving lessons.
He couldn't wait to get his own motorcycle, it would surely be great, but first he had to pass the exam. It wouldn't be very difficult, he remembered all the directions and he had his helmet on to ride safely. His driving teacher created a circuit so he could ride the motorcycle there, the teacher would see how he did.
For the second test, the same teacher got on the back of Won's motorcycle to go around the circuit now as if he had a passanger and Wonwoo did well too. An hour later he had his new license in his hands, he was so happy that even in the photograph of the document he seemed to be smiling, although he did not have glasses on and the camera flash blinded him a little.
Wonu's phone lights up and a message from Mingyu appears on the screen.
How did you do on the exam?
Wonwoo thinks for a moment, he would like to surprise Gyu, but he also knows that he is bad at hiding some things from him and anyway everything will be very obvious as soon as he gets home.
It was easy, I did well.
He texts Mingyu back and heads to his next destination, Wonwoo thinks that the first person he should take on a ride on his motorcycle is Mingyu, because Min's support was unconditional while Won was learning how to ride a motorbike.
Mingyu always cared and let Won experience this new hobby alone anyway, sometimes Min would pick him up when class was over and he keep asking Wonu about his progress, asking if he was comfortable or if everything was going well.
Min would definitely have to experience in person how good Wonu was at riding his own motorcycle, but first he had to get one so he could take him for a ride. Wonwoo was glad he had time that day, so he went to one of those dealerships with vehicles to pick out a motorcycle.
There are many models, most of them had a modern style and every motorcycle appealed him in some way. But Won knew that he didn't wanted the fastest motorbike, he wanted to travel comfortably and be able to ride at a good speed, anyway, he lives in Seoul where the traffic is sometimes very heavy.
Won looks at a lot of models until he sees one that seems perfect for him, it is a classic that catches his attention, the details such as the seat and some parts of the vehicle are black, the handlebars are silver and it is very similar to a Harley Davidson.
He finally decided on that motorcycle, how easy it is to buy it, he just had to use his black card and that's it. He fills out the bill in his name and he is so excited to get out of there with his new license and his own motorcycle plus two helmets that will come in handy from now on.
But before he goes home, he must make sure Mingyu is ready. It's 6 PM and maybe it's a good time to see if they can go for a ride this afternoon.
Are you done with your schedules for today?
Won asks Mingyu as he gets on his new motorcycle and then puts his helmet on, he doesn't know if it's because of the helmet but he can hear his heart pounding excitedly from the center of his chest. Although now that he thinks about it, it's a little uncomfortable to carry his cell phone in his pocket while he rides so he makes a mental note to buy a phone mount and have Gyu help him install it on the motorbike.
I'll be done in 20 minutes more...
Mingyu texts him back and Wonwoo can see through it his helmet and he decides that it's best to wait for Min, so he begins his journey, with the helmet on, Won can't feel the wind on his face, but still with the gentle way in which he moves with his motorcycle he is feeling calmer while he rides.
The lights, the cars, the buildings, everything is left behind as he continues riding down the road towards the building where he and Mingyu live. A few minutes later, he's finally outside the place and waiting for Min parked right where the company's van always drops them off to get home.
A few more minutes pass and that's when, in the distance, Wonu can see a van like the ones that always transport them from home to work and vice versa. He smiles, but no one can see it because he still has his helmet on.
As soon as the vehicle parks and Gyu gets out of the truck, Won removes the helmet from his head and his free hair, a little long and disheveled, moves with the wind, Mingyu looks at him at that very moment and he stands there spechless at the image just for some seconds.
"Hyung!" Mingyu says as he smiles and approaches Won's motorcycle while he hangs his backpack on his shoulders. "Wow!"
"Get on, let's go for a ride." Wonwoo tells him as he points his head to the back of the motorcycle and extends his hand to offer the other helmet to Min. He takes off the cap he is wearing and exchanges it for the helmet that fits him perfectly.
Mingyu's not going to lie, he's so excited when he approaches the back of Wonwoo's motorcycle, and then he swings his leg over to the other side of the vehicle and settles into the seat. For a moment he doesn't know what to do with his hands.
"Are you ready?" Won asks, although his voice is muffled by having the helmet on, so he adjusts the rearview mirror to look at Mingyu who nods his head slowly, he seems a little insecure, and Wonu knows it, he knows him so well that he already has an idea of what to do, but Mingyu needs some kind of confirmation anyways. "Hold onto me, Min." He has to yell a little bit so that his voice can be heard louder.
Gyu nods, now more confident, and as soon as Won lifts the side leg of the motorcycle and straightens it, Mingyu hugs him from behind and intertwines his fingers holding tightly onto Wonwoo. Out of inertia, his body presses against Won's and Min turns his head to see the landscape while Wonu drives.
At first he's a little nervous, but he actually trusts Wonwoo, he trusts him a lot and he knows that he tried too hard to learn how to ride a motorcycle and he's sure that today, during his driving test, Won had also done his best. So Mingyu lets Wonu take him for a ride calmly, he doesn't want to stress him out with his own anxiety and they don't go too far from home anyway.
Wonwoo takes them to the big bridge over the Han River just as the sun sets, so they can see this together, he rides a little slower across the bridge and stops right at the end so they can both see the sunset there.
Mingyu doesn't pull away from Wonu's body as the sun sets, both of them are silent, but Min tightens his grip on Won's body. Neither of them can see the other, but they are smiling at the blues of the sky that are becoming darker and darker, the sun that colors other parts of the sky orange, and the reflection of all those colors on the river.
They don't need to talk, the helmets make everything else sound further away and therefore at a lower volume, it is as if they are both in sync while looking at the landscape, perhaps Mingyu didn't know how calming it was to see the sunset after a work day, but he's glad to be there with Won. When the sky becomes completely dark and the stars begin to shine little by little, Wonwoo knows that it is time to go home.
Even though the darkness now surrounds them, the motorcycle's headlight illuminates their way and Mingyu keeps trusting Wonwoo, it is a very short trip so they arrive home in a few more minutes more, they get in the parking lot in the basement of the building. Won leaves the motorcycle in the place assigned to their apartment and they both go up the elevator.
"How did I do?" Wonu asks as they get to their place, his hair all disheveled by the helmet and his face blushing.
"You did so well, Wonwoo!" Mingyu says as he smiles. "Now you can take me for a ride every time we go out, right?"
Wonwoo laughs but nods. "We can look for some places to go to take photos."
"Oh! But when you tell everyone else, they all will probably want to take a ride with you too." Mingyu sulks and Wonwoo laughs.
Yeah, but at least Mingyu was the first person Wonwoo took on a ride.
