Chapter Text
Coriolanus didn’t expect to befriend a crying boy in the middle of the school day. He didn’t expect to comfort a crying boy. At all.
So why did he become friends with the boy? Well, he’s supposed to be nice to people. That’s what Tigris said to do. Even if they annoy you. Which he found kind of dumb, but if Tigris said to do it, then… he had to do it.
Arachne and Festus, family friends, practically ran every game any of the kids were able to play. They would make up random rules, just so they could win. Coriolanus didn’t join in, he prefers to watch them or just read.
Arachne and Festus decided who can play and who can’t. So when a new student came, someone from the districts…
He was sitting near the wall watching the scene unfold with a book in his hands. Arachne embarrassing the curly haired boy in front of everyone, laughing at him, ridiculing him. Until the boy was on the verge of tears.
They ended up leaving him alone, and then the boy turned around making eye contact. Coriolanus saw those deep brown eyes staring into his soul, the tears in the boy’s eyes rolling down his cheeks. Why is he making eye contact?
The curly haired boy came over to Coriolanus, sitting next to him. “What are you reading?” The boy asked him, sniffling. Coriolanus looked at him with a frown, “A book?”
The boy laughed, “I know that! You’re funny.”
“I’m funny?” Coriolanus pouted, “I’m not trying to be.” The brunette shrugged and wiped his tears, “I’m just glad someone’s talking to me.” Coriolanus frowned again, this boy is interesting .
“What’s your name?” Coriolanus asked. The boy smiled and held out his hand, “Sejanus Plinth.” Coriolanus took his hand and shook it, at least the boy has proper etiquette . “I’m Coriolanus Snow.”
“Nice to meet you Coriolanus!” Sejanus smiles, “Want to play?” His smile is full of hope. Clearly he thought Coriolanus was already his friend. The blonde thought about it. Why not?
He looks at Sejanus, “Okay, I guess I can play…”
——
The next day Coriolanus sat against the wall again, watching as Sejanus walked over to him with a metal box. “Hi Coryo!” He exclaims as he sits down next to the blonde.
Coriolanus ignored his nickname pointing to the box in Sejanus’s hand. “What’s that?” He asked.
Sejanus blushes a bit, “It’s a thanks from my mother for being nice to me yesterday.” He opens the box revealing cookies. Chocolate chip. A luxury not many people can have. Especially for his family.
“Go ahead, take one,” Sejanus said, offering the cookies to him. Didn’t have to tell him twice. He quickly grabbed one, trying to not be such a rabid animal while eating it.
“So are we friends?” Sejanus asked with a smile. The blonde looked at him and then down at the box of cookies. It wouldn’t be too bad to be friends with him…
“Yeah we’re friends,” he says, making the curly haired boy’s smile grow wider.
It’s kind of nice to see him smile.
