ch3John had never been alone before.
He swept Olivia off her feet in high school and she swept him off his, and they got married right out of their senior year. Before that he was with his birth family, and after that he was with his found family, or his work family when he was away from home.
It worked for him. He was such an extrovert that the idea of being alone never even occurred to him. There was always someone, either to go to or to come home to. Lemar and Liv were pillars in his two major places of life.
Then, just like that, within a month, they were both gone.

“So,” Lila bites the inside of her lip. “Is it weird that I have a massive crush on your ex?”
“Shit,” Diego says. “That’s allowed?” Lila shrugs, panicking and trying desperately not to let it show on her face. She has no idea. Fuck, what if it isn’t?
“Yeah. Oh, no, I totally get it,” he tells her, nodding, sagely.

“Nope!” Yelena said cheerfully. “John is marrying Bob. Very simple.”
“While he’s married to you?” Mel asked.
“Yeah, I know I married Bob,” Yelena said casually, waving her hand. “See? I wear a ring.”
The ring was… beads. Plastic beads. Mel squinted. Has it always been like that during the wedding?
She pinched the bridge of her nose.“Great. So you guys figured this out. I haven’t. Now you need to explain to the press how you’re getting married again, why Yelena’s fine with it, and how you’re all in some weird polysemous relationship and none of you are homewreckers.”
"People have been calling me that?” John scoffed, pretending to not care. “I-I wouldn’t know.”
Mel stared. “You don’t check your own press?”
"Nope,” John said proudly.

That’s when Ava phased through the wall. “Me,” she declared dramatically, climbing into Bob’s lap and leaning over to whisper something that made him giggle.
“You’re marrying Walker?” the reporter asked, stunned.
Ava kissed Walker on the cheek lovingly and then scrunched her nose at the question as if it repulsed her.
“NO. Obviously I’m marrying Yelena tomorrow,” she said, grabbing Yelena’s hand and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
Yelena nodded proudly. “Yes. And Mel is invited. Oh and we sent you all the inventions so do not be late.”
Then the two walked off like that made sense.
“Wait, you can’t schedule your wedding the same day as me and Bob!” John shouted, running after them with Bob hand in hand the tinier man waving bye.
