I Don't Need Every Universe (When I Already Have You In This One)

Summary:

Marinette waits for Tim to come home so she can ask him some very important questions

Work Text:

Prompt: “Do you think we’re friends in every universe?”

Marinette’s feet dangled idly off the counter where she was sitting. She leant back on her arms and looked at the fan on the ceiling spinning around and around and around and around.

She sighed as the constant round about motion of the fan started making her head spin, closing her eyes so the world would tilt and rock, head woozy. She heard the door open and the jingle of keys and grinned. Finally .

“Hey,” her boyfriend murmured, pressing a kiss to her cheek as he passed by to put something of the other in the fridge.

She opened her eyes and looked at him, a smile pulling at her face as the sun shone in through the opened drapes, reflecting off the kitchen surfaces and creating a soft, cozy glow in the room that made it feel warm and safe. Adding to that, her favorite person was here? It was perfect.

“What?” Tim asked as he turned around and saw Marinette looking at him as if he just did the most loving and terrific thing possible to her.

“Nothing.”

“What’s the look for then?” Tim matched her features as she approached, coming to stand between her legs.

Marinette leaned forward and tossed her arms around his shoulders, locking them behind his neck, “Maybe it's because I really love you?”

“Did you break something?”

Marinette barked out a laugh and shoved him back, “Wow! Just assume the worst of me why don’t you.”

“Hey, you’re the one acting weird!”

“Am I not allowed to love my boyfriend?”

Tim rolled his eyes and moved back to the space he had been occupying before, bringing a hand to her cheek and directing her lips to meet his ever so gently pressing them together for just a moment before pulling away, “Of course you are. I love you too, Mari.”

Marinette returned her hands to around his neck and rested their foreheads together, sighing contently as she stared into his blue eyes, breaths mingling in the middle.

“Hey Tim?” Her voice was soft, as if it were any louder it might break the moment.

“Yeah?” He matched hers.

“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”

Tim couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled up in his chest and crested over from his throat to his mouth, like a waterfall cascading into the air around them. It was a joyous sound that Marinette loved to hear, especially when she caused it.

“Would I love you if you were a worm?” Tim repeated back incredulously.

“Yes,” Marinette said in all seriousness that a question of such a matter could possibly be in.

“Well…” Tim started, tilting his head slightly in thought as he pulled away just a tad, “If you were a worm, I would make a box and make it all pretty with dirt and plants and tiny worm decorations and stuff and dice fruit for you- even if whenever I try I end up cutting myself- and put it all on a tiny platter to serve you whenever you wanted it. And I would keep you on my bookshelf in my office and my nightstand in our room so whenever I’m lonely or sad or happy or want to keep you company, I could go and sit by you and read you books and offer you a tiny easel to set up with a tiny picture on it replaced every week so you always have something new to look at and put up tiny little things all the time to decorate your box and make sure you live the best worm life a worm ever could.”

Marinette’s eyes softened and there were some tears in the corners of them that Tim took it upon himself to kiss away as Marinette gave him a watery chuckle, “You really are the best ever.”

“I know,” Tim said as he pressed a kiss to her nose.

“Hey Tim?”

“Yes?”

“Do you think we’re friends in every universe?”

Tim felt the smile on his face creep to something gooey and sickeningly sweet. He was in deep for this woman, but he really wouldn’t have it any other way. Even if she asked silly nonsensical questions and fell on her face all the time and spilt red wine on Bruce’s very expensive white shirt when she had first met him not making the best impression she could.

“I think,” Tim tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, “That we were destined for each other in this one.”

Marinette looked at him, her eyes prompting him to continue.

“I don’t know how other universes play out,” Tim said honestly, “But I do know that in this one, we met by chance or fate or something and it's made my life better every day since. I don’t know if we will get together in other ones, if we will find each other, if we will become friends, if we even meet. I’d like to think that somewhere in another universe, alternate me has a beautiful girlfriend staring at him with more love than he could ever deserve and asking him about our universe; but if this is the only universe that we’re together, then that’s enough for me. Because I love you Marinette.”

Marinette pulled him close into a searing kiss that made his toes curl, “I love you too, Tim.”
