This boy is on fire (and now you're gay)

Summary:

As the swarms of flames engulfed his body and thick clouds of smoke take hold of his face, protesting in his lungs, Bakugou looked out the ash covered window pane; barely holding on at all. He had to make a choice. Closing his eyes, he took a leap of faith.

Work Text:

It was a scorching hot day that morning, Bakugou had only convinced himself to get out of bed that morning to escape his inferno of blankets. A cave from the depths of hell. His mixture of weighted blankets and fluffy pillows only enhanced the fire-hot prison he'd woken too. Finally, he threw himself out of bed with the urgency of a thermometer about to burst. His sanctuary at last: a tall glass of ice water danced around the glass as he took desperate gulps. Only dressed in his joggers, Bakugou ached for a shower, suddenly feeling all too trapped in his dressing of sweat.

A shower would have to wait. He was running late for school! (Bakugou sighed, exasperated by the cliche of it all.) God save the soul who was late for Mr. Aizawas homeroom class. Dashing out of his barely dressed in his school uniform with a slab of toast pinned by his teeth. Sweat already seeping into his fresh uniform, leaving him feeling disgusting and grumpy.

Running was a bad idea. The heat was unbearable and Bakugou's typical fluffy, spiked hair was plastered to his forehead. The sun was almost blinding and his world only got brighter as Kirishima, the world's dorkiest, red headed boyfriend, waved over from the UA school gates. Kirishima, Bakugou thought, shined like the moon on the darkest night sky or like the stars, acting as a guide to the lonliest sailor. Somehow, his brightness didn't hurt, not like the suffocating ray of the sun, not like this entrapment of heat. Kirishima was a freeing kind of light. There was one issue though.

Bakugou was a tsundere.

For some reason, when his boyfriend waited, he ran. When his boyfriend jumped, he'd squat. His pride held him back and in this burning heat he could only scowl at the goofy way Kirishima beckoned to him.

Class was fine. Well if fine meant so roasting hot you thought your balls were going to fall off and your eyes were going to melt into the back of your skull. Then, yeah, class was fine. Bakugou didn't mind it really, he was sat next to his good friend, Denki Kaminari, and his nerdy ass boyfriend. They were getting their mock results back today. Terrifying. As Mr Aizawa handed out the papers, disappointment sewn deep into his expression, Bakugou knew he'd truly, royally fucked them up. Shit.

"It's really not that bad!" Kirishima reasoned, "If you need help with English I could tutor you this time!"

"No." Bakugou snapped. He wasn't stupid. He knew he'd fucked them up. He really didn't need to be patronised. He couldn't tell whether the heat in his face was due to the raging sun that day or his quickly growing anger. He stormed off. Screw everyone else, he just needed somewhere quiet to study. Tearing his way through the school, Bakugou was so in his own head he hadn't even seen the small first year running like he was on a mission. The kid scowled up at him, deep seeded hate in his eyes. Great. More problems. Unable to suppress his anger any longer, he shoved the rat away and retreated to one of his safe havens: the library.

His anger was hard to swallow. Even after his quiet revision this heat refused to allow his feelings to dissipate. Much like the sweat on his skin; it clung, ruthless and ugly. It couldn't get worse.

It got worse. Oh God, it got worse. The smoke was Bakugou's first indication that something was wrong. With music distracting his mind and stealing his ears he hadn't noticed the blaring of the alarms nor the slamming of the doors. The smoke, however, could not hide so easily, it rolled out through every crevice and crack like waves of a tempest. Within seconds, the room was completely engulfed in gray, Bakugou's blood ran cold. His head pounded and his chest was struck with ice cold fear. fuck.

He forced his way through the doors and down the hall. Shedding his blazer in the process due to its newly adorned flames accessorising it. He stopped running, completely lost, yet all he saw was red and gray. He was trapped. The gang surrounded him and left him feeling defenceless, it was only the shout of a voice, so dampeded Bakugou was sure he'd imagined it. Kirishima's voice, somewhere, saving him. Guiding him like a flashlight. He couldn't see left from right or up from down the smoke left him blindfolded as the waves of flames beat him down. He had to trust his light. Bakugou stood tall. With his coldest face he stood, like a mountain, feeling numb from the adrenaline. Goosebumps being the only tell that he was completely shitting himself. But there was someone, a voice, a light, waiting for him. Bakugou ran like the flames were rain and forced his way through any barrier in his way. Towards the voice. The lifeline.

Coughing up remnants of his smokey intruder Bakugou felt glad to be back under the gaze of the comparatively less hot sun. He took a deep breath and allowed cold tears to run.
"Where's Kirishima?" Kaminari questioned, concern clear in his eyes. It took to long for Bakugou to process the question and instead shot a fearful glare toward Kaminari's disturbed face.
"He literally just went in there looking for you. Did you not see him?!" Bakugou's blood ran cold. All the heat in his body completely drained, leaving a shell of himself behind.

He didn't think. He didn't need to. His boyfriend went to find him. Bakugou knew where he went. God Kirishima knew him so well. Whenever Bakugou was upset, he escaped to the unused science classroom on the third floor. Kirishima had gone searching for him.

Bursting through the door, Bakugou couldn't stop, fueled by the search for his love. Finally, he found him, searching desperately under desks and in cabinets. Bakugou's ears pounded so loud he could hardly hear his own shout. In moment of pure panic, kirishima swung his body around. The two found each other's eyes. Despite, the harsh flames Kirishima was still the brightest thing in the room. He hadn't even seen him move, just felt the embrace. For being in a crumbling building full of flames, somehow, being in Kirishima's sturdy grip felt like the safest place in the world. A sense of calm washed over him like ice water.

The sound of collapsing building made itself known, for some reason. This was probably due to the fact the building was collapsing. A large creak from the ceiling was all he needed to push Kirishima through the doorway right as the rubble began crashing down around. He recognised the sound of the fire brigade ringing loudly in the distance. Cool and calm Bakugou knew Kirishima would be safe. He sat down against the only standing wall and began to relax.

"Katsuki what the fuck are you doing?" A voice rudely shouted. Didn't they know, he was trying to accept his fate in peace and let smoke inhalation take him out. "Kats, I'm right here, jump out!" His boyfriends voice finally rendered in his brain, jolting him out of his quiet death. Peaking around his shoulder and out the window he realised Kirishima was right down there. Arms wide open.

As the swarms of flames engulfed his body and thick clouds of smoke take hold of his face, protesting in his lungs, he looked out the ash covered window pane; barely holding on at all. He had to make a choice. Closing his eyes, he took a leap of faith. Into the safety of his boyfriend's arms.
