He was “Potter” during the day.
When they passed in the halls or attended the same parties, he was always only given a head nod or a “Hello, Potter.”
It was only at night that things were different. It was only at night that he was “James.” Only in rare, heat-filled moments that “James” turned to “Jamie.”

Sometimes “Reg” or “Reggie.” Potter was so…familiar in the way he greeted people, even though they were clearly not friends, or maybe just so. But Potter was as bright as the sun, constantly shining his warmth wherever he went, and it seemed natural for him to use Regulus’s silly nicknames even though they didn’t really…they weren’t really…
But at night, it was different. He was “darling” and “love” and sometimes “baby,” when Potter was really gone.
