“Oh, I thought you were asleep.” It’s the first thing he says when he sees Leo is awake. He smells like chocolate milk and the heat of Miami.
“Not anymore. Your kids awakened me.”
“Oh, when they misbehave they are my kids.” Sergio says, moving his head like he is nodding, his voice raising like he does when he is joking. He lets the tray on the night table, to then sit in the bed, his hand coming closer to Leo’s face to touch him, his thumb moving softly over the bone of his jaw. “Good morning.”
“Good morning.” Leo says back, his voice sounds sleepy and tender like cotton candy.
