Chapter Text
Outshined by the flashier departments, Crime Investigation laid in the cramp corners of the entire unit.
Regarded as a designation for rookies, those who yearn to prove themselves to join the other leagues, the grander leagues. The ones that get hung up on the employee of the year walls, the ones that sling guns and grappling hooks, those ones that aren’t afraid to touch the nitty gritty.
Each entranced in a web of divergences, roping through crimes as petty as egg theft to the massive scales of timeline destruction, serial offenders and one hit wonders. Each and every young cookie down here had the menial task of reviewing footage and pointing a case in the right directions.
Unlike all the other worker bees biting their lip, pressing against logistical holes, one stood against the rest.
The counter of solved cases rising what seems to be in record speed ever since he stepped foot onto the floor all those years ago.
One that refused the call of a transferral time and time again.
What can he say? He enjoyed the environment, the chase at a distance. Why give that all up?
No higher a witch’s looney, a lone detective kept his eye on the board.
“Clever,” he remarks.
“But not clever enough! Hahahah!”
With that, the thumbtack was driven right above the scene. Chaotic, it was.
But who else but him could find that blink-and-you’ll-miss-it blurry frame of the caped suspect?
Finally managed to catch that dashingly stunning green underside…
Only took him 48 hours of restless nights, his finest work.
Strewn with messy bangs, a smug grin cracks along his face, light catching the rim of his glasses.
“Really now, you’ve been getting sloppy…”
He quietly relents, weezing with another kick of chuckles.
Suddenly, the hiss of machinery screeched against the back of his ears.
“CINNAMON DONUT COOKIE.”
The detective jolts, eyes wide, sputtering. Saluting to what was merely a communicator. The sullen voice of the chief investigator, he’s only heard it practically once or twice… Let alone behind the crackle of the cold audio.
“Emergency meeting. Meet me in my office, now.”
