Work Text:
“Wait!” Atsushi quickly threw up a metal cookie tray with soaked and sopping wet hands. Water sprayed the gray cooking material and reflected back as it continued to soak an already half drenched Akutagawa. Atsushi then let the tray limp in his grip; and in return, he got sprayed in the face with warm water.
Atsushi dropped the cookie tray, luckily on the counter, and then rushed hands to his mouth as he used his already dripping and sopping wet hands and arms to dry the plastic tinted water away as he spit out the water that got in his mouth in the nearby sink, “Ew, gross, I think I swallowed some of it!”
“You'll be fine, it's just water from the sink.” Akutagawa said as he pulled out another spray bottle, a purple one to complement his pink one that was already dormant in his hand. He then continued to spray Atsushi another five times, adding water to the already walking ocean that clung to Atsushi's clothes. Atsushi ducked the next spray of water as it hit the cupboard behind him with a rain of mist. He then ran out of the kitchen trying his best not to slip as he tried to escape his cornering of counters and appliances’ danger. He then slid into the living room, in which was the first place he was attacked by the repetitive sprays of water when he walked in the door to Akutagawa's apartment earlier after coming home from work.
Akutagawa followed in presuit as he appeared in front of his TV as to not damage it with water as he sprayed Atsushi with water another three times, ignorant of his already then sopping wet couch. Atsushi moved the coffee mug and center plant of the coffee table as he used it as a shield as water continued to rickashay off of it. He then got sprayed from the side as Akutagawa made his way over to him.
“Wait, stop, why are you even spraying me with water!” He said as he grabbed the nuzzle of one of the spray bottles and blocked his face with the other one, despite such efforts not working before and after, after setting the table down.
“Revenge.” Akutagawa answered flatly as he sprayed Atsushi another five times. Atsushi let go of the spray bottle as he wiped as much water from his eyes and face as he could while water only continued to drip down from his hair.
He opened his mouth to speak but saw the nuzzle of the spray bottle pointed at him and he dodged and ran around the other side of the table. Akutagawa held the spray bottle up like a gun as he walked around the table himself. They both ended up on the same sides of the table as they had before, Akutagawa in front of the TV, Atsushi in front of the soaked couch.
Akutagawa then stared Atsushi down and dual wielding spray bottles aimed at Atsushi, pulling the trigger. Atsushi then jumped backwards expecting to jump over the couch and hide behind it. Instead his foot caught the back of it and he rolled backwards across the floor with a loud thud.
“Ow, my head!” He groaned as he reached his hand up to the back of his head. Akutagawa then draped himself over the back of the couch and looked down at Atsushi.
He sprayed him in the face another three times, “are you ok?”
Atsushi wiped the water from his face and wiped the bit of water he got in his mouth on the back of his hands. He then glared at Akutagawa who only gave back a plain expression. “No, I'm gonna die of a water overdose if you keep spraying me like a cat.”
Atsushi put his arms up as a shield as Akutagawa then sprayed him again. Atsushi huffed, annoyed and to get water out of his mouth, as he wiped water from his face again. Then the front door opened and slammed open. They both turned to see Gin standing in the doorway with three plastic grocery bags in one hand.
“Ryuu, what's going on?” She started as she raised her foot back up after taking it out of her shoe and stepping in water, “Why Is the house and you two soaked in water?” She was answered with silence from both Atsushi and Akutagawa. Then she spotted the spray bottle in her brother's hand that was pointed at Atsushi.
“Wow, seriously, you two are grown adults.” She said before either of them could say a word. She then dropped the plastic bags on the ground and turned. “I'm going out, if this house isn't drier than the Sahara desert when I get back I'm kicking you both out to sleep outside.” she warned harshly as she slammed the door behind herself.
They both sat up and then by Gins orders started grabbing towels to dry the house down. By the time they had finished the house was as dry as before, Atsushi decided to give up drying his hair and instead just sit on the floor as water dripped down his back and on his fresh and dry clothes. Atsushi continued to stare at the blank tv in front of him paying little to zero attention when Akutagawa sat down on the couch behind him.
“You need to finish drying your hair off, Weretiger.” Akutagawa said as he threw the towel he himself used to do his own hair down into Atsushi's lap as he leaned forward to do so, pressing his knees into Atsushi's back. Atsushi glanced over at him and then looked back at the tv.
“I don't want to, my arms hurt from using them to hold stuff up like shields from your bullets that were materialized by water and air.” he complained.
“You're just lazy, and dramatic.” Akutagawa huffed with a hint of amusement as he sat down on the floor behind Atsushi and began using the towel that sat like a crown on the silverette's head to continue drying Atsushi's hair. Atsushi let Akutagawa continue to dry his hair as comfortable silence grew between the two.
“Why were you spraying me with water again? Something about revenge? I don't know what I did though.” Atsushi said, suddenly breaking the silence.
“I don't know either.”
Atsushi turned his upper half backwards to face Akutagawa, “what do you mean, I don't know either? ”
Akutagawa stilled, “I just don't, I don't remember why, at first I was doing it because of a small thing from months ago but then I kept spraying you cause your reaction was stupid and funny.”
Atsushi punched him lightly in the shoulder, “Wow, you soaked me and your whole house with water just because you thought it was funny.”
“To summarize,” Akutagawa reassured with a flat tone.
“You're obnoxious!” Atsushi rolled his eyes and turned back around. Akutagawa huffed a laugh as he went back to drying Atsushi's hair. The front door then opened and Gin walked in again.
“I'm supposing the entire house is dry.” She said as she looked down at both boys. Atsushi smiled and nodded, due to which Akutagawa flicked the back of his head. “Don't move your head, I'm still drying your hair.”
“Good, next time have your glorified kid water gun fight outside.” Gin said as she flopped onto the couch and turned the TV on. Atsushi watched whatever Gin was watching on the tv as Akutagawa continued to attempt completely drying his hair. In which, he gave up(or in other words, got distracted) eventually after his hands went still and he stared over Atsushi's shoulder at the TV.
“What on God earth are you two watching?” Akutagawa said after three episodes of the show had passed.
When no one answered he looked down at Atsushi who was leaning back against the mafioso and using a towel as a blanket over his legs; in which, he was playing with the fringes of and drawing random shapes and words into the texture. He looked back up at Akutagawa, “Don't look at me,ask her if she's the one who put it on.” He replied, pointing towards Gin. Atsushi watched as Akutagawa then looked over at his sister who, in response, just shrugged.
“How unmitigatedly helpful.” Akutagawa said with every ounce of sarcasm.
“You're so very welcome.” Gin replied to spite his sarcasm; therefore, getting returned a glare, that she only smiled back at. Akutagawa scoffed and leaned back into the bottom base couch. Atsushi, on the other hand, had almost his full attention to the drama unfolding in the show as he continued to lean back against Akutagawa.
When the morning after the night came rolling around, Atsushi woke up on the same living room floor alongside Akutagawa. Atsushi propped himself up slightly, carefully to not wake up Akutagawa who had his arm loosely wrapped around the detective and legs tied together like knots of limbs. Atsushi looked around to see a luckily off TV and on the couch Gin also slept.
Atsushi felt a slight tug at his shirt as he looked down, “go back to bed, Weretiger, it's too early to be awake.” Akutagawa said, muffled by a tired rasp.
“The sun’s up, Ryuunosuke.” Atsushi, despite the argument though, laid back down.
Akutagawa wrapped his arm less loosely around Atsushi and then spoke, “I could give less of a care that it is up, Atsushi.”
Atsushi scoffed a weak laugh that died quickly seconds before he laid a soft and quick kiss on Akutagawa's forehead before returning back to how he woke up, snuggled against the Mafioso. And then the two let themselves drift back to sleep on a previously but no longer soaked with watered carpet floor. A calm peace both, and especially Atsushi appreciated just as much as their fruitful childish chaos.
