Snoot Game: The Sage Route - Rewritten

Summary:

I’m starting from scratch, there’s no saving the old one.

Chapter Text

My alarm goes off signaling the beginning of a mediocre year. I get up from my bed slowly and check my phone. It’s 7:30 and high school doesn’t begin until 8:30. I guess some shitposting on a Chinese Basket Weaving thread would waste some time.

I do the usual post offensive memes until I end up getting banned. The simple things in life piss off people the most. After getting my fill of annoying people online for today, I finally decided to get ready.

I grab a jacket and shirt from my closet and throw them on, grab some pants from the drawer, and then I was dressed. Breakfast was an easy endeavor. After that I went on my way to school. The walk there was cold as hell, not even the jacket helped. It was also hard to see because of the fog. How does anyone navigate in this? I pulled out my phone once more and found a sensitive person online to make fun of until they block me. It didn’t take much to do that surprisingly. You think if you were on the internet you would have thick skin, but whatever, I won in the end.

When I get to school I take one good look at it. Looks like a setting for a horror movie or a shitty Doom Wad. The fog wasn’t helping at all.

The staircase to the front of the school was filled with many colorful students. When they notice me they all turn. Oh great, all eyes on me, why not. They look at me like I’m some type of circus act, the judgment in each of their eyes visible to see. They continue looking at me with disdain until they all collectively turn away to focus back on who they were talking to. Especially a tan microraptor with purple highlights, who was talking to a stegosaurus.

I take the opportunity to get out of there before the bullying begins. I already dealt with enough of that from idiots at my old school. Just six more months Anon, six more months. I end up at the side of the school where a fragile looking bench was located. I confirmed the bench was indeed fragile when I got jumpscared by a pink parasaurolophus and a gray pterodactyl. The bench breaks under me to the surprise of the peach parasaur. She quickly helps me up and introduces herself.

NAOMI
“I’m very sorry about that, my name is Naomi. I’m here to give you a tour, along with my boyfriend Naser.”

After introducing herself she hand me these pamphlets that advertise stuff for school programs that I will never check out. Except for the lunch financial program. Naomi notices my interest in it but doesn’t say anything.

Naser and I shake hands and I follow Naomi without much choice. Naser didn’t stay for long because he went to help with something, I wasn’t exactly paying attention.

The tour itself lasted several minutes and soon enough I was already in class. My first hour seemed to be English and of course it’s a teacher that speaks in typical Japanese made up speech. He asks me to introduce myself to the class, and I do so, horribly. I try not to bring up anything about games or anime because of what that caused at my last school. After the awkward silence and stares, I sit down and don’t pay attention for the rest of the class.

This repeats until lunch. Of course being broke meaning I have no money, I have to get the free lunches, which means pizza that will turn into something John Wick would use if I leave it out for five minutes. After that I look around for any empty seat, only to notice a certain peach para waving me over. I slowly walk over to where she is and I’m immediately bombarded with questions that I could barely answer before she asks another. Naser notices this and was looking slightly annoyed.

NASER
“Naomi, why don’t we save the questions for some other time, I’m sure he just wants to eat right now.”

Naomi responds with a slow nod as I sit down and focus on my pizza. Thank god it didn’t hit the five minute mark. When I was done, I noticed a look on Nasers face, it seemed he wanted to ask a question. I decide to hear what he has to say.

NASER
“I was wondering Anon, my sis- sibling needs an audience for a show tonight. I’m wondering if you would be interested.”

I considered his offer for a moment. I ultimately decided.

ANON
“Yeah, I’ll do it, so what type of show is this sibling putting on?”

NASER
“Music show.”

ANON
“What type of music are they playing?”

NASER
“The musical kind.”

Well this is getting nowhere. I relented, if he wants me to be there, then I may as well, even if I just met him. He gave me his number and I texted him as a test. He looked at the message and gave me a thumbs up.

The rest of lunch was silent after that and classes were just like the others.

I’m now meeting him in the auditorium just like he texted me to do. When I approach him he’s looking at his phone, probably talking to said sibling. He notices me and steps aside.

NASER
“They are in there getting ready, there’s pizza while you wait.”

I nod and head right in. There’s pretty big crowd, it seemed people were excited until i noticed what they were saying.

???
“Just gonna be another awful show, why do they even try?”

???
“I know right? They are so well below mediocre that if I played like them I would kill myself.”

Paying no mind to it I go back to the pizza, grabbing myself a slice from one of the many boxes. Naser comes in soon after, looking as stressed as he has been looking since the moment I met him.

NASER
“Show is gonna start in five minutes she- they said.”

I nod.

ANON
“Ok, it doesn’t seem anybody is excited about the show at all.”

NASER
“What do you mean by that?”

ANON
“They are just calling the band terrible.”

After I said that I never saw a man change moods faster than him. He slams a fist down onto the table.

NASER
“Of course they fucking did.”

He said that with a growl in his voice. It’s interrupted by a buzz from his pocket. He grabs his phone and answers it. The only thing I hear on the other end is a bunch of garbled screaming and swearing. When it was over he put the phone back into his pocket and turned to me.

NASER
“I can’t stay long. Enjoy the show man.”

He waves to me and walks out the doors.

When the show started I saw three members up on stage. A purple triceratops, a light blue pterodactyl who I assume is Nasers sibling, and a pink raptor. Instrument choice is bizarre. Ok you have the pink raptor on drums, and then you have…..two bass guitars. Oh this is not going to end well.

It turns out I was right, this is fucking awful. The two basses give it a heavy sound that makes my ears want to rupture my brain. The vocals are shrill and the lyrics are edgy teen shit that absolutely no one besides a 12 year old would write. It made me and several others in the audience burst out laughing. Which was enough for them to pause the music. Several of them started booing and throwing insults at the band. The triceratops leaves the stage in tears while the pink raptor slowly moves off stage in embarrassment. The main singer did not go off stage at all despite this, instead going into defensive mode, complete with middle fingers.

FANG
“FUCK ALL OF YOU!”

???
“No one would want to fuck you bitch.”

This struck more than a few cords with her. She jumps off stage and starts wailing on the guy who said it.

All this chaos is interrupted when a loud voice yells.

???
“SHUT THE FUCK UP, ALL OF YOU.”

I look into the crowd and notice a familiar tan raptor. It seems he got invited too. They all turn to him and start laughing.

???
“Of course the tranny is gonna defend the bitch.”

They all gang up on him and I take my opportunity to escape before anything else can happen. That is before I feel a huge hand on my shoulder. I turn around to see who it was. It was a very large man with long black hair and square glasses. I notice the pin on his tuxedo that said ‘principal’.

???
“Hello, I am Principal Spears.”

I nod in acknowledgment.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“I’m very sorry that this is your first impression of our student body, you can leave but I do need to see you in my office tomorrow morning.”

I nod and turn away, heading out the two doors. Why he needed to see I would question later. As I head outside into the parking lot I hear a loud yell come from inside the auditorium.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“ALRIGHT ONE MORE WORD AND EVERY ONE OF YOU GETS PILEDRIVED TWO FEET IN THE GROUND!”

It shakes the ground outside the building with how booming it was. I pay no mind to it and head on my merry way back home.

When I got into my apartment I turned off the lights and headed straight for my bed, plugging in my phone and slowly drifting off to sleep.

Chapter Text

The morning repeats exactly like the last. Get my clothes on, shitpost, breakfast.

The cold is something I don’t think I will ever get used to. That and the fog. Despite how cold as fuck it is, I could feel someone following me as I bring out my phone and do some more trolling on my way to school. It’s probably just another student walking the same path, even if there weren't any other students walking this path yesterday.

After twenty minutes of walking I’m back at the creepy fucking school known as Volcano High. It’s 8:20 so that’s about ten minutes before classes start.

I head for the Principal's Office right away. Not sure what he needs me for. Although after that I probably should talk to Naser about the concert last night. I come out of my thoughts when I notice a conflict in the hallway. It looks like it’s between Naser and the purple triceratops from yesterday. Considering I need to talk to him I stand and watch the conflict.

TRISH
“YOU SET US UP!”

NASER
“Listen Trish-“

TRISH
“I’ve done enough of that already!”

The girl gets into a stance, lowering her head ready to charge him. It seems he anticipated this because as she did Naser grabbed her by the horns, preventing her from impaling him.

NASER
“This isn’t a good place to fight, the Principal is still trying to replace the lockers from our last one.”

The purple trike does not listen. She takes two steps back but before she could do anything Naser places a hand on her head and stands there as she tries to swipe at him. This goes one for about thirty seconds before she ultimately relents (yeah I kept count).

TRISH
“Whatever, fuck you Naser.”

She walks away, shaking with anger. Banging on a locker before she goes. Before I could approach Naser a voice came over the intercom. It’s the principles.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Anon Mous if you aren’t in my office in five minutes the next place you will going is the school nurse's office!”

The voice booms from the speakers, being a warning for what happens if I don’t show up in the time he said. I take this as an opportunity to run to the principal's door as quickly as I possibly can.

It didn’t take long for me to find it. The door itself is very plain. I give it a knock and hear a voice on the other side.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Come in.”

Opening the door I am surprised by the look of his office. Considering his appearance I expected his office to reflect that but no. It’s professional and clean. There’s a desk and two office chairs.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Have a seat Mr. Mous.”

I do as he says and recline myself onto the chair. It’s surprisingly comfortable for an office chair.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Mr. Mous do you know why I called you in here yesterday?”

ANON
“No not really sir.”

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“It’s because your name was written on the signup sheet for the school's lunch financial program.”

ANON
“I don’t remember writing my name down.”

He pulls out a signup sheet from a nearby cabinet and shows it to me. Placing a finger where my name is.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“It says your name here.”

What the fuck? Who put my name down. I think back to yesterday, that look Naomi gave me. She’s the only one I can think of who would do it, but why?

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Anyhow, I’m going to need a few more of your signatures.”

I nod, accepting this despite not asking. No way I’m getting out of it now.

He pulls out a paper with lines at the bottom for name and signature .

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Just put your signature here and your name below.

I nod, using the pen he gave me to sloppily write my name in cursive. I’ve never been good at it. I put my name below it making it look like a fifth grader wrote my name down.

He takes paper back and gives me a thumbs up.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Thank you for your time.”

He opens a cabinet from under his desk and pulls out a small card, handing it to me.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Use this at the cash registers, you won’t have to worry about payment until the end of the year.”

I nod as he places it in my hands. Taking a look at the card, it's nothing special. It’s a white card that says ‘lunch financial program’. I place it in my pocket and proceed out of his office.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“Oh and Anon.”

I slowly turn to look at him.

PRINCIPAL SPEARS
“I expect great things from you.”

He gives me a warm smile and I respond with a thumbs up. Gently closing the door behind me and going to class.

The first couple of hours were nothing special. Just boring lessons and assignments I’m saving for when I get home. Science class is more of the same. Except this time you have to do everything in groups. Every other student has already found their partner. Because of course they did. I look around the room for any potential candidates and notice someone waving me over.

SAGE
“Mr. Fernsworth doesn’t care if we work in groups of three, he just wants it done.”

It’s that tan raptor from yesterday, the one that yelled in the band's defense for the audience to shut up. I slowly approach the table and sit in one of the empty seats. All while the little raptor gives me a smile.

The singer was also there, but didn’t say anything. She just gave me a long glare into my soul and not much. It was kinda creepy.

I look away to focus on the raptor.

SAGE
“I’m Sage by the way.”

He holds out his hand for me to shake. I take it reluctantly.

SAGE
“So what’s your name? You’ve been silent the whole time.”

ANON
“Oh, it’s Anon…”

SAGE
“Nice name dude.”

Mr. Fernsworth puts a stack of three papers in front of us. I grab one and Sage grabs one. Sage pushes the last paper to the singer for her to grab, which she does. We all work in relative silence. Sage sees my answers so it’s not exactly silence.

SAGE
“The answer is C for number six by the way Anon.”

I nod and erase my answer for number six, putting in C.

I then notice he’s got a wrong answer himself.

ANON
“Doesn’t it make sense for number eight to be D?”

Sage looks down at the question I mentioned.

SAGE
“Shit you’re right.”

He quickly erases his answer and puts the right one in.

SAGE
“Hey Fang you need any hel-“

FANG
“No, you two can fuck off, I don’t need help.”

I turn to Sage and whisper. Sage notices and also leans in.

ANON
“The hell is her problem?”

SAGE
“Well, there was a concert and it didn't quite go well-“

FANG
“Did I just hear you call me a her?”

Sage turns to Fang in horror. He whispers to me one more thing.

SAGE
“They are really sensitive about their identity, you shouldn’t have done that.”

ANON
“Sounds like a problem on their end.”

FANG
“ALRIGHT THATS IT.”

Before I could react Fang leapt out of her chair and onto me. She’s now repeatedly punching me in the face. Sage watched in horror. He grabbed Fang by the arm and tried pulling Fang off me.

SAGE
“Fang he didn’t mean it!”

FANG
“BULLSHIT! YOU HEARD WHAT HE SAID.”

The whole class watched in horror. Another student was also grabbing Fang by the arm and pulling her off me. It worked in the end and they brought her outside. Sage held out his hand for me to grab.

SAGE
“I am so sorry about that, I meant what I said about Fang being really sensitive about their identity.”

I nod in understanding.

ANON
“Well I clearly learned my lesson.”

SAGE
“Pft, yeah. You should probably get that checked out though, any more of their punches and your face would’ve looked like Thanos.”

I chuckle at that one. I sit down and we both help each other out on the assignment. Several minutes later I hear the door open and someone approaching our table. It’s Fang. She takes a seat and I look up from my paper. She had a frown on her face.

FANG
“I am sorry for beating you up…”

ANON
“And I am sorry for calling you a girl.”

I hold out my hand and she reluctantly shakes it. Signifying what happened earlier is behind us. Sage smiles as we make up.

The rest of the class was fine after that. Fang kept to herself and Sage was pretty decent conversation.

The rest of the day came and went and now I’m back at my apartment, thinking about how different tomorrow could be.

Notes:

Happy April fools day, I’m glad people are enjoying it so far.

Chapter Text

Today is just like the last two days this week. It’s becoming routine at this point. Get up, shitpost, clothes, breakfast, out the door.

The walk is probably never going to become routine. Skin Row isn’t exactly the most peaceful part of town. I walk past several drug deals in the back alleys on my way to Volcano High.

The school itself is looking as creepy as it always does. You think they would try brightening it up a bit so it doesn’t look like I could spot it in a Scream movie. Students are of course piling onto the steps waiting for the bell to ring.

Classes are just as boring as they have always been. Usually just writing stuff down in a notebook. Purchasing my own school supplies meant I had to skip out on that Saturnia Art Collection but perhaps paying aftermarket prices wouldn’t be bad right?

Focusing back on math class, I try to pay attention to whatever lesson Mr. Cowaldski has for today. Of course it's a lesson I don’t understand.

Trying my best not to fall asleep I feel something hit my back. I slowly checked to see what it was, someone threw a paper plane without the teacher noticing. The skill that it would take doesn’t matter as I grab it and start unwrapping, revealing a note and reading it out in my head.

Back of the class skinnie

I look up from it and someone is waving me over. The purple bassist from the concert specifically. Along with the drummer.

I get up from my desk and walk to the back of the class. The teacher pays no mind to it and focuses on the lesson. He isn’t paid enough to care I guess.

I take a seat across from them, making this look like some type of interrogation. The bassist introduces herself.

TRISH
“I’m Trish, Fang's best friend.”

Oh shit, this is going to be about yesterday huh?

ANON
“Well, nice to meet you I guess?”

TRISH
“Do you know why I called you over?”

ANON
“Not particularly…”

TRISH
“Fang, who I just mentioned, texted me yesterday about a skinnie misgendering them. You’re the only Skinnie in the school, so you're the only culprit.”

So much for putting what happened yesterday behind us.

ANON
“Yes….I apologized to her- THEM for it.”

TRISH
“Hah, you just did it again…”

He brow furrows with a devious smile. She’s planning something.

TRISH
“Meet me after school in the gardens. You and I are going to have a little chat about this.”

Shit.

I nod and get out of the chair and get back to my desk.

Class ends not long after that and the day carries on like the last two.

Science is even like yesterday. I sit down with Sage and Fang and decide to confront Fang about what Trish said.

ANON
“So…I met one of your friends in math Fang.”

FANG
“Oh…did you now?”

ANON
“Yeah…Trish was it? She wants to meet me after school in the gardens.”

Fang gives me a worried look. It seems she knows what’s coming. Sage also shoots me the same look.

ANON
“You guys are staring at me like she’s gonna kill me.”

SAGE
“You’re gonna wish she did. She’s been going after people who laughed at the concert and good lord they end up getting let off for the rest of the day.”

Fang joins in.

FANG
“Just yesterday 20 kids had to get let off from school because of her, or at least I assume it was her. I really need to talk to Trish about it because it is not a good look for the band. Main point is: you are about to get your shit rocked. And if you don’t show up, she’ll hunt you down.”

I hear Fang mumble something under her breath. I couldn’t quite understand it.

ANON
“Has she done it to you or something?”

FANG
“No, no, it’s just a tendency that I just know about her.”

SAGE
“At least you told us about it.”

Sage puts a hand on my shoulder.

SAGE
“Look, I’ll have your back on this. I’ll go with you.”

I nod as Sage gives me a smile.

Science carries on like yesterday, Sage and I talking about whatever now that the assignments are done and Fang not saying anything. Just giving me and Sage a worried and terrified look.

School comes and goes and now I’m approaching the school garden with Sage.

SAGE
“I know where it is, but don’t expect me to get involved.”

I give him a nod as we continue walking. Soon enough I can see a small field of beautiful flowers. I walk towards the field while Sage hides behind one of the walls trying not to be noticed.

It takes a few minutes but I notice a short triceratops walking my way soon enough.

ANON
“Took you long enough.”

TRISH
“It’s a pretty long walk.”

ANON
“So what exactly do you wanna talk abo-“

Before I could complete that sentence I am immediately shoved to the ground and getting pummeled on. Every hit hurts more than the last.

Sage comes out from behind where he was hiding and tries pulling Trish off me. Trish retaliates by focusing her fury on Sage. One hit and Sage is knocked to the ground. His glasses cracked. Trish lands a few kicks to Sage's side and starts repeatedly punching him in the face.

TRISH
“YOU REALLY TRIED PROTECTING THE BIGOT SKINNIE?!?!?!”

Sage could barely get a word in.

Trish doesn’t notice as I steady myself. Aiming one hit to the back of Trish’s head is enough to get her off of Sage. Trish turns around but before she could retaliate we all hear footsteps. Trish takes this opportunity to make a getaway before anyone could notice. Running away as fast as she could, leaving us there battered and bruised.

Those footsteps belonged to Naomi, who was horrified when she saw the state we were in.

Sage was still laying on the ground, his glasses broken and his face bruised and bloody. I helped Sage up and he thanked me.

NAOMI
“WHAT HAPPENED BACK HERE?”

ANON
“Well uh-“

Naomi
“I’m taking you both to see the nurses office.”

Before I could say anything Naomi grabbed me and Sage by the wrist. It didn’t take long for Naomi to transport us both to the nurses and onto a bed. She got us bandaged up the best she could too.

Laying in bed I turn to Sage.

ANON
“Well, I’m sorry that it turned out like this…”

Sage turns to me.

SAGE
“Don’t be, it’s not your fault I got beat up, I was foolish for thinking I had a chance.”

ANON
“I wouldn’t call it foolish, you were defending me.”

SAGE
“And look where that got us.”

ANON
“True, but still, you did a damn good thing.”

Sage smiles at me.

We both end up spending the night in the nurse's office. Naomi was worried that in the state we were in we wouldn’t make it home.

Honestly not the worst thing in the world despite what we both just went through. I close my eyes and slowly drift off to sleep, the only noise being Sages snoring from the bed next to me.

Chapter Text

In the morning I feel someone jolt me awake. When I open up my eyes it’s Sage. I move my upper body to an upright position to look at him.

SAGE
“We are gonna be late for classes if you don’t hurry yourself awake.”

I nod my head and slowly shift myself out of bed.

ANON
“At least we slept in our school clothes.”

SAGE
“To be fair, no one sleeps naked in this place.”

He turns to walk away. This question has been on my mind so I decided to ask him.

ANON
“How can you see anyways? Your glasses were completely shattered.”

SAGE
“I always keep a box of contacts in my overalls.”

He turns around and pulls something out of the pocket of his overalls. It is indeed a small box of contacts.

SAGE
“They may not be comfortable but a good replacement for now.”

ANON
“Good cause I'd rather not have to guide you around the whole school.”

He scoffs at that and gives me a smile. I smile back as I catch up to him. Before we could head out of the nurses office, of course the nurse herself confronts us.

NURSE
“Are you two all better?”

SAGE
“Yeah, I think we’re good to head to classes.”

NURSE
“Hold on a moment, I have to check both of your injuries, just go back to those beds. The teachers will understand.”

We nod and take a seat on the nurse beds. The nurse proceeds to remove our bandages and check for any long term damage.

NURSE
“There doesn’t seem to be anything that I would consider threatening, go figure. But your bodies are still healing and even scabbing over. Do you both mind telling me what happened yesterday?”

Me and Sage look at each other for a moment. We silently decide to just tell her.

ANON AND SAGE
“Trish.”

The Nurse looks at us the most unsurprised look I’ve ever seen a Dino have.

NURSE
“Yeah that girl has always been a menace. It makes me wonder how she’s not even suspended yet, let alone expelled. I probably shouldn't be talking about a student like this but you two are not the first ones to end up here because of her.”

ANON
“Really now?”

SAGE
“Yeah Anon, she’s got a reputation for a reason.”

ANON
“I guess that was obvious.”

SAGE
“Painfully obvious. Anyways, are we good to go?”

NURSE
“Yes, yes, you’re both free to head to your classes.”

We get up and head for the office door.

NURSE
“One more thing.”

We both turn around.

NURSE
“Try to avoid getting beat up like that again will you?”

SAGE
“Will do.”

Sage gives a salute as we head out the door.

Exiting the Nurses office we decided to split up so we can head to our classes. I may as well talk to Fang about what happened yesterday when I get the chance. I’ll probably want to avoid Trish for the time being.

Math class comes around and I absolutely dread it. I could feel a certain purple triceratops burrowing in the back of my skull with her vision. I try not to look behind me. If you ignore her she’ll go away right?

That mindset doesn’t last long as I feel a paper airplane hit the back of my head. I try to ignore it until I feel another one. I turned around annoyed and picked up them and opened the notes. The first one said,

How are those bruises Skinnie? You mess with my friends' identity again there will be more where that came from.

So a threat. Alright then. I read the second note.

Don’t ignore me Skinnie. You are your friend are fucking dead if anything happens to Fang again.

What’s her deal with calling me a Skinnie? Whatever. I put the notes into a ball and successfully free throw them into a nearby trash can.

Looking behind me I noticed a pissed off trigga, he scowl not scaring me one as I give her one the smuggest looks a man can give. It only makes her even more pissed as I turn around and focus on my work.

Soon enough math was over and I managed to survive without getting impaled by a purple midget.

Next up: Science Class.

Both are sitting in their usual spot when I come in. I take a seat.

FANG
“So how was the confrontation yesterday?”

SAGE
“We got our absolute shit kicked in.”

I nod in confirmation. Fang gives us a look of horror and anger. Not towards us though.

FANG
“I’m going to talk to Trish about it, I’m so sorry that happened to both of you. Neither of you deserved it.”

Sage nods in understanding as we carry on class like normal.

——————————————————————

I am angered by what Trish did. I pulled out my phone and sent her a text.

Fang: I need to talk to you after school, this is urgent >:v

Trish: ok, what time?

Fang: how about 4:00?

Trish: yeah I think I can make that work.

I sigh and put my phone back in my pocket.

School comes and goes once more and I’m now at the front of the school waiting for Trish. Soon enough I see her approaching with a confused look on her face.

TRISH
“You wanted to talk to me, Fang?”

FANG
“It’s about yesterday.”

She looks at me in surprise.

FANG
“Specially about who you beat up, you took it too far this time.”

TRISH
“I did it to protect you.”

FANG
“Oh so that includes beating up Sage while your at it, the guy who defended us at the concert mind you.”

I point an accusing finger at her to make the point clear.

TRISH
“He defended that Skinnie bigot, what else was I supposed to do?”

FANG
“Oh I don’t know, not beat the shit out of people who don’t like us or our band? It’s not a good look for us.”

TRISH
“You don’t get it do you?”

FANG
“What am I not getting, Trish?”

TRISH
“I DO ALL OF IT TO PROTECT YOU!”

FANG
“I DON'T NEED PROTECTION!”

TRISH
“YES YOU DO!”

FANG
“I DON'T NEED YOU TO FIGHT MY BATTLES TRISH!”

At this point I’m done listening to her. I start walking away from her.

FANG
“We’re done…”

TRISH
“W-what?”

FANG
“I said it, we’re done. You’ve been overprotective the whole time I've known you.”

I hear Trish growl in anger as I start walking faster.

TRISH
“WHO ELSE DO YOU HAVE BESIDES ME HUH? WHAT DO YOU HAVE LEFT?!?!?!?!”

I slowly turn around and answer.

FANG
“My family.”

The walk home was a quiet and long one. Of course it would considering my brothers home and everyone’s in their houses right now.

When I do make it home I head for my room and ignore my family. Slamming the door.

I spend the day in my room, reflecting upon everything with Trish. God why did it take me so long to realize?

When night comes around I end up crying myself to sleep. The wet hot tears being my only comfort.

Chapter Text

Waking up in my bed for the first time since yesterday at the hospital feels weird. But then again you don’t usually have a small raptor midget to wake you when you need it.

Showing up to school I can tell something was off.

In Math Class I could barely pay attention because of a certain midgets murderous gaze. I turn behind me to face her and she does a finger over her neck motion signifying that I’m dead. Not really what her deal is now I turn around and focus back on the lesson the best I could. This lasts for the rest of class.

I got a clue what Trish was angry at me for when I noticed someone missing from her seat. Sage waves me over and I take a seat.

ANON
“So where’s Fang?”

Sage gives me a shrug in response.

SAGE
“Not sure, they didn’t say anything.”

I nod as we focus on our assignment for today that Dr. Farnsworth gave us. When we’re done we do what we’ve been doing for four days in a row and joke around with each other. Even if it feels off without Fang there.

SAGE
“Say, how about we meet at lunch? I always see you hang out with Naomi and you don’t seem to enjoy it one bit.”

ANON
“How can you tell?”

SAGE
“The look on your face and body movements say everything man.”

ANON
“Oh really now?”

I smirk creeps across my face. It seems he noticed.

SAGE
“I wouldn’t try anything funny if I were you.”

ANON
“Why not?”

SAGE
“Because I’ll be forced to use this spatula.”

He says this while pulling out a bright pink spatula from one of his pockets.

ANON
“Do you just carry that thing with you all the time?”

SAGE
“I literally am in cooking class so yes actually.”

I smirk at him once more. Him raising the spatula in response, ready to strike. I try not to tempt him because getting my ass kicked by a midget with a spatula is the most embarrassing thing I would go through.

When Science Class ends I follow Sage to lunch where we continue our conversations.

ANON
“All I’m saying is Kung Pow is a guilty pleasure.”

SAGE
“You always manage to unironically enjoy some of the worst movies and excuse it by calling it a guilty pleasure. Just yesterday you were talking about Batman and Robin being the best Batman movie when The Dark Knight is right there.”

ANON
“Hah, does The Dark Knight have the bat credit card?”

SAGE
“Why the fuck would Batman ever need his own credit card?”

We both burst out laughing after that.

When we both get our food from the lunch line and find a table I decide to bring this up.

ANON
“Hey, why don’t we go to Fang's house to check up on he- them.”

SAGE
“That's actually a good idea, she probably needs someone to talk to.”

I nod as we continue eating our lunch. I give Sage my number and a thumbs up as I receive his text.

Sage: Ligma.

I look up at him with disappointment.

ANON
“Of all things to send me, you say a joke from five years ago.”

Sage shrugs at me.

SAGE
“What can I say? My humor is still in 2016.”

ANON
“Next you're gonna send me an idubbbz clip.”

Sage bursts out laughing at that.

SAGE
“Oh you know I will after you gave me the idea.”

The conversation goes on until lunch ends. Where we continue our classes and decide to meet up at the front of the school.

The end of the school day goes by and I’m now waiting for Sage by the front steps.

SAGE
“Sorry about the wait, last class is pretty far from the front of the school.”

ANON
“All good man.”

He nods as we make the walk to her house.

ANON
“Have you ever been to Fang's house before?”

SAGE
“Only once and I never went back.”

ANON
“Is it because something happened?”

SAGE
“No, no, not anything like that. As far as I know I’m still in good standing with Fang's parents.”

I nod.

ANON
“We could take the bus to get there.”

Sage turns around.

SAGE
“That’s not a bad idea, I’m pretty sure the next stop is up ahead anyways.”

He turns around and continues walking all the way to the bus stop. I follow close behind.

We sit on the bench in silence until the bus arrives. Which took around five minutes at least.

The bus ride we were just as silent as the wait for the bus. Soon enough we were right in front of Fang's house. It looks nice, very middle class. There was a slightly beat up sports car on a driveway up front.

SAGE
“That’s Nasers car, a gift from his dad.”

ANON
“Huh.”

Sage goes to the front door and rings the bell. It didn’t take long for a voice to show up on the other side and the door to open.

The person greeting us is a short woman, looks similar to fang but with blonde hair.

SAMANTHA
“Oh Sage I haven’t seen you in a long time, how have you been? And is the your boyfriend right beside you?”

Sage turns to me with a face of horror and then turns back to the short ptero.

SAGE
“No ma'am, he’s just a friend.”

SAMANTHA
“Oh I see. Come in, Come in. I assume you came because of Lucy?”

SAGE
“Yes actually, we came to check on them.”

The woman nods and lets us pass.

SAGE
“Their room is upstairs to the right if I remember.”

I nod and follow Sage up the steps to Fang's room. Sage approaches the door and gives it a gentle knock. At first there’s no response but the second time around the door opens gently. What I saw when she opened the door was terrible. Dried tears were running down her cheeks. Her makeup was smeared and in ruins. His fingers were red with what looked like blood.

FANG
“The hell do you wan-“

Fang opens the door a little more. When she finally realizes she looks at us in surprise.

FANG
“The fuck are you both doing here?”

SAGE
“We came to check to see if you’re alright, you didn’t show up at school at all today. “

FANG
“Yeah….Im doing fine.”

The dried up tears on her face and messed up makeup tells me the opposite.

ANON
“I assume the talk with Trish didn’t go well.”

Sage nudges me in the stomach as I say that.

FANG
“No…..It went horribly…”

After a moment of silence, Fang steps aside letting us into her room. Me and Sage take a seat on the edge of fangs bed. Fang closes the door and turns to us.

FANG
“Trish tried everything in her power to justify beating the shit out of both of you. I am so sorry that ended up happening, neither of you deserved that. Especially you Sage.”

SAGE
“You don’t need to apologize for what Trish did.”

FANG
“Trish only did it because I told her about Anon accidentally misgendering me.”

The look of guilt on her face said it all. She looked like she was close to tears. Fang takes a seat on the edge of the bed next to me and lowers her head.

FANG
“I feel like an asshole…I am beyond sorry Anon, I broke your trust within your first week of knowing me.”

I shake my head.

ANON
“You just simply told someone you trusted, what they did in response was on them.”

I put a hand on her shoulder.

ANON
“I just hope we can forget about it all and just be friends.”

Fang turned her head to me. She then surprised me with a hug, she was now crying on my jacket. Sage joined in and started hugging both me and Fang.

The group lasted thirty seconds before disbanding. Fang calms herself down. Steadying herself she addresses both of us.

FANG
“Thank you, both of you, for just showing up today.”

SAGE
“Aw it was nothing.”

FANG
“It wasn’t nothing, I really needed that, thank you both.”

Both me and Sage nod and exit the room while giving our goodbyes. We exit Fang's house and walk to a nearby bus stop.

Sage turns to me on the bench.

SAGE
“I’m glad you suggested that.”

ANON
“You're welcome.”

We smile at each other and turn away. The rest of the wait and even the bus ride was spent without words.

Sage was the first to get off. I see him walk towards a house that doesn’t look in the best of shape. I’ll confront him about that later I guess.

My stop wasn’t too long after that. Heading up the steps to my apartment I don’t flip on the lights, heading straight for my bed to get some much needed shuteye. Drifting off to sleep when I do.

Chapter Text

It’s the weekend now and things are definitely more different than I would like.

First off I have a small friend group now within the first week. Fangs definitely got issues and it’s mostly just me and Sage, though Fang was slightly more talkative yesterday.

Fang also gave me her phone number. I don’t feel the need to text either of them usually.

Right now I have detention on the weekend because someone was not happy about what the school bandwidth was going towards.

You see I have this condition called ‘being poor’ so paying for movies and anime is a no go.

Anyhow, I see that creepy ass school just up ahead.

Considering where I got my ass beat Wednesday, I know exactly where the garden is.

Approaching it I see twelve other students walking about the garden and talking to one another. Only about three faces turn to me. Better than Monday at least.

Among the students I spot one specific pterodactyl, her wings fluttering in the wind, talking to a specific tan raptor. It seems they both ended up here. They turn as I approach them. Sage and Fang both give me a confused look as I do.

FANG
“So how the fuck did you end up in detention.”

Fang already knows my power level from talking with Sage so I just decide to give her the real reason.

ANON
“Apparently the school doesn’t appreciate the wonders of piracy.”

FANG
“Well no shit.”

Sage decides to chime in at this moment.

SAGE
“Companies need money for their work.”

ANON
“Well if they don’t make it easy to access, why would I pay for it?”

SAGE
“Because they want you to.”

I scoff at that. Shill for the big wigs up top are we.

ANON
“Anyhow, what is this supposed detention?”

FANG
“They are going to be explaining in a moment but basically we are gonna be working in the garden. Thrilling I know.”

SAGE
“It is, I joined the club after all. The only reason I did was so I can plant some beautiful flowers.”

FANG
“I thought you joined the club because Stella was there.”

SAGE
“That too.”

Fang scoffs.

FANG
“Then are you gonna get up there with them?”

Fang points towards some steps up front of the garden. There I see an orange ankylosaurus and that green stegosaurus I saw Sage talking with on Monday.

SAGE
“Yeah I probably should.”

Sage walks towards the front of the garden where the two are. Every face turned to him as he did. He got up onto the steps and stood next to the green Stego.

We all stood in silence as the orange Ankylo walked up to the mic.

ROSA
“Good morning gringos. I am Rosa. You all will be in the garden today because the principal thought this was better than having you in a classroom all day, so you can thank me for that. I will assign all of you in a moment to one specific job. Just approach me and I will.”

Me and Fang did as Rosa asked and approached her.

ROSA
“Let’s see, how about….you two handle the vines.”

She pointed to a canopy where I saw dozens of vines atop it. Oh hell no.

Rosa gives us a ladder, a pair of shears, and two pairs of gloves from the shed and we go to deal with the vines.

FANG
“Alright, I’ll be on the ladder cutting the vines and you keep it steady.”

I nod as Fang climbs onto the ladder with the shears. I grab the ladder and keep it steady the best I can. Even if the ladder shook when I grabbed it.

FANG
“Watch it dweeb.”

ANON
“Sorry.”

No words were said for a bit as Fang finished cutting a few vines.

FANG
“I’m gonna need you to move the ladder a few inches.”

ANON
“With you on it?”

FANG
“Yes, you can’t be that weak.”

I grab the ladder and try my best to do as Fangs asks.

SAGE
“Do you guys need any help?”

I turn to Sage. Thanking the heavens.

ANON
“Yeah actually, I need help pushing the ladder with Fang on it.”

SAGE
“Just tell Fang to get off the ladder.”

FANG
“Nope not happening.”

SAGE
“You’re only making it harder.”

Fang sighs and gets off the ladder.

FANG
“Fine, fine you both can move it.”

Sage sighs and I easily push the ladder a few inches. Fang gets back on and the cycle repeats. Except Fang gets off the ladder first thing so I can push it.

Although I do notice a change on where the vines were landing. Right on my fucking face. It starts stinging as it makes contact. I didn’t even know I was allergic to whatever vines these are. I try my best to ask Fang to watch where she’s dropping them to no avail. One of them lands right in my mouth. I take my hands off the ladder to spit it out.

Fang eventually looks behind her and notices. She has a look of horror written on her face.

FANG
“I’m sorry about that Anon, looks like I wasn’t paying attention.”

Fang gets down from the ladder. I see Sage rushing over immediately.

SAGE
“Your face is literally a tomato, why didn’t you tell me you were allergic.”

ANON
“I didn’t know.”

SAGE
“Well at least you know now. Follow me to the nurses, we’re getting that checked out.”

Sage grabs me by the hand and rushes as fast as he can to the nurses office. All while my head feels painfully itchy. Fang followed not far behind.

Sage eventually got me checked in and the Nurse checked it out. Apparently there was a bit of swelling in there too. Sage was horrified after they told him. Fang just had this look of regret the whole time.

Eventually Rosa rushed into the Nurses office too.

ROSA
“Sage told me what happened.”

She then pointed at me.

ROSA
“An-on you’re off from detention for today. If I knew you were allergic to vines then you would have never been put in the garden in the first place.”

I shrug.

ANON
“Would have been boring that way.”

Rosa lowers her brow at that.

ROSA
“Are you saying you want to work in the garden in your condition?”

ANON
“No, not at all maam.”

ROSA
“Good. Then you’re off today, the principal will want to speak to you about this Monday.”

Rosa then turns to the other two.

ROSA
“As for you two, you both will be doing vines.”

Sage nods and Fang gives a sigh in response. They both walk out of the nurses office after and I assume back to the garden. Rosa follows them soon after, leaving just me and the nurse.

NURSE
“You can go home if you want, you’re not obligated to stay here.”

I nod and walk out of the nurses office myself. Proceeding to wander about the school for a bit.

I proceeded to go up the stairs all the way to the roof.

I opened that rickety door and breathed in that tropical air.

I approached the fence and looked on, taking in the beautiful view. The shoreline was marvelous. I take a seat on that roof, and get lost in my thoughts.

???
“Beautiful view?”

I jump at that and quickly look behind me. It was Sage.

ANON
“Yeah….yeah…”

Sage approaches the fence and takes in the view as well.

SAGE
“You really can see everything up here.”

There was some silence between us for a long while.

SAGE
“Man…..first week of knowing and already…..we are pretty alike….”

ANON
“I….wouldn't go so far as to say that…..we have similar interests for sure….”

SAGE
“There’s more to it……just by the look of you ... .I can just tell we are two sides of the same coin ... .just trying to make it in this world alone….”

I sigh.

ANON
“You have friends, you clearly aren’t alone.”

SAGE
“That’s where we don’t understand each other.”

ANON
“I won’t understand if you won’t tell me.”

He nods.

SAGE
“I guess you have a point ... .for a long time I’ve barely felt a connection to anyone, yeah as you said I had friends, but it was only surface level, we talked, not much more…but this week? I got my ass kicked for you, we helped bring Fang to a better state yesterday… there’s just something about you.”

He turns to me.

SAGE
“You’re an interesting person Anon.”

I look at him for a moment with just bewilderment.

ANON
“Well…..It’s definitely been an interesting first week.”

SAGE
“Heh, with you around, I can tell it’s only going to get more interesting.”

We stare at each other for a moment, it’s like we could read each other. It's like I finally understood for the first time in my life.

I don’t want to be alone…

Chapter 7

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Sunday comes and goes and before I know it, it’s Monday. Not much of note happened Sunday, save staying in and playing Xrox with a little shitposting on the side.

Monday wasn’t interesting either; nothing but getting the usual school related bullshit done while avoiding the stare of a certain purple trigger.

Speaking of which, the gaze she gave me today was quite more…..murderous.

She looked like she wanted to kill me, and she probably will if I’m not careful.

As for the reason for why she’s doing it…. Something probably happened between her and Fang and now she’s pinning it onto me. It would explain why Fang was so upset last Friday.

I just hope to God I don’t get gored by her.

Science is as pleasant as it was last week. Just taking notes and getting whatever paper Mr. Fernsworth wants done while talking with Sage about fuckall.

SAGE
“Have you read the new Berserk chapter yet?”

ANON
“No, can’t say I have. Anything interesting happen?”

SAGE
“Oh yeah Guts finally kills Griffith, It’s such a good fight.”

ANON
“I’ll have to check it out then.”

SAGE
“Good, that series is too peak to skip.”

FANG
“What the fuck is berserk about?”

I see a light in Sage's eyes, Fang must’ve accidentally activated Sage's autism switch. Not even I could manage to do that.

SAGE
“Well you see, Berserk is a manga about this guy named Guts who’s like this really cool knight with a giant sword-“

Sage rambles on about the plot until the end of class. Fang listened intently the whole time. I’m surprised honestly, Fang doesn’t usually listen to our discussions.

FANG
“That actually sounds pretty cool, I’ll have to give it a read when I get the chance.”

Sage gives Fang a smile.

SAGE
“I hope you enjoy it.”

Fang smiles back.

We all go our separate ways and the day passes us by.

I walk down the steps and hear Sage calling my name from behind me, and I turn around to face him.

SAGE
“Hey I was wondering if I can stay at your place tonight.”

ANON
“On a school night?”

SAGE
“Yeah I know it’s a bit much to ask.”

ANON
“Very.”

SAGE
“My parents are on vacation and I’m getting tired of spending time at their house by myself.”

I think about it for a moment.

If I accept, he’s going to see how I live, be absolutely disgusted by it and leave. Either that or stay out of pity which is arguably worse…..

Fuck it…...

ANON
“Sure, what time do you think you’ll drop by?”

SAGE
“How about 6:00?”

ANON
“Sounds good.”

He smiles and heads his own way home, presumably to get packed. I also head home to get the apartment cleaned up as best I can.

By the time 6:00 rolled around, the place was looking slightly better.

I hear a knock at my door and open it. It was almost difficult to recognize him because his outfit was entirely different. In place of his usual overalls was a black t-shirt and jeans.

SAGE
“What? Shocked at what I’m wearing? I wear different things, you know.”

ANON
“Yeah but you always wear the overalls.”

SAGE
“That’s because I do farm work.”

ANON
“That’s a lie and you know it.”

SAGE
“Would you want me showing up to your house in the same outfit that Coco wears in the Crash Bandicoot games?”

ANON
“I’m not complaining at all. Come right in.”

I get out of the way for him to come in, prompting him to smile and walk through the doorway, looking around the room as he does.

SAGE
“You live like this?”

ANON
“Yeah, about all I could afford.”

SAGE
“That is just sad.”

He continues looking around the room for a minute.

SAGE
“What do you do for fun?”

ANON
“We can play some Xrox, watch movies or anime, not much else to do besides that.”

SAGE
“Sounds good actually.”

He heads towards the bed and takes a seat.

ANON
“Any idea on what you wanna do first?”

SAGE
“You got Rock Ring?”

ANON
“Hah! That's like asking if I breathe. If anyone owns an Xrox they have Rock Ring.”

SAGE
“Fair point.”

I grab the game from a cabinet (yeah I keep my games there) and open the case, producing an audible “snap” before grabbing the disc from its case and putting it into the console.

I see a light in his eyes when I boot up the menu, one even brighter than the one this morning.

He picks up the second controller, prompting me to pick up the first.

I find that we’re evenly skilled the second we get into a match. I use every tactic I can and not get any advantages. I’m not sure how he’s seeing through them. Yet he does.

SAGE
“You wanna stop using simple tricks and start getting serious or is that all you can do?”

ANON
“Not my fault you’re good at the game.”

SAGE
“If you’re gonna 1v1 me seriously you best do anything else besides covering behind spots I can clearly see you.”

He says that and immediately snipes me behind cover. Turns out he was right behind me. How I didn’t notice I’m not sure.

We end up spending up until nightfall playing Rock Ring matches. We were still equally matched.

SAGE
“How long have you been playing?”

ANON
“I’ve been playing this game for five years.”

SAGE
“You really don’t show it.”

ANON
“Well I don’t play multiplayer.”

SAGE
“That explains it.”

I another round comes and goes and eventually we finally decide we’re bored of it.

ANON
“It’s definitely getting late. Wanna order a pizza or something?”

SAGE
“I can cook something.”

ANON
“I don’t have much you can use.”

Sage stands up and puts a hand on his chin. He walks towards the kitchen and starts snooping around.

Several minutes go by until he finally says something.

SAGE
“Well I you’re right. But I can work with this.”

He grabs a few eggs from the fridge and gets out the one pan I have and begins to work.

I watch as he masterfully flips the egg in the pan. It flew several feet in the air and landed softly back into it.

SAGE
“That trick took a while to get down.”

ANON
“Not bad.”

He smiled at me in response.

I watch as he continues to work his magic with the omelet.

SAGE
“I can’t dice the vegetables myself, c'mon you gotta at least help a little bit.”

ANON
“If you say so, fair warning though, I never cut before.”

SAGE
“I’ll give you a few pointers.”

I walk up to the counter and grab the knife. I place the blade above the bell pepper.

SAGE
“Keep your hand steady.”

My hand is slightly shaking, I try my best to steady it. I feel a gentle hand upon mine, steadying mine. I know it was his.

SAGE
“Now, just slice.”

He gets his hand off mine and I make a neat slice.

SAGE
“Very good, keep going.”

I make another slice, slowly. I then make another, and another. I get faster and faster, until it’s completely cut.

SAGE
“Wow you’re a natural.”

ANON
“Thanks I guess.”

SAGE
“The eggs almost done, I’ll cut the meat.”

ANON
“You need any more help?”

SAGE
“Nope, you just sit there and watch a future chef at work.”

I do as he says and watch as he masterfully cuts the meat.

Soon enough the omelets were done. We sat down at the table and enjoyed the feast that Sage had cooked for us. God I haven’t had cooking like this in so long if ever. My parents hardly ever did.

ANON
“You are pretty good.”

SAGE
“What did I tell you?”

I shrug and he smiles at me.

After that very good meal we decided to head for bed. He heads into the bathroom and brushes his teeth. I didn’t know people did that at night.

We both decided to share the bed so I’m just laying there waiting for him.

He eventually emerges from the bathroom and slides into bed beside me. We don’t say anything to each other. Only drifting off to sleep.

Notes:

I’m so sorry it took this long, and I’m definitely sorry that you probably waited this long for a chapter where not much happens.

Chapter Text

I went grocery shopping with Sage a week after. He ended up buying them and I thanked him profusely.

SAGE
“It’s really no big deal.”

ANON
“You’re the only one with money.”

SAGE
“Because I work fast food on the weekends.”

ANON
“So you flip patties.”

SAGE
“Obviously.”

ANON
“Man that must be hell on earth.”

SAGE
“It’s worth it for the money but not much else.”

ANON
“I thought the pay at those places was shitty.”

SAGE
“It’s good enough for me.”

We headed on home with the groceries in tow. Of course what I mean by home I mean my apartment. He said his parents aren’t coming back for the rest of the school year.

ANON
“So you have any siblings?”

SAGE
“I have one brother but he’s in college. You?”

ANON
“Nah I’m an only child.”

SAGE
“Lucky.”

When we got to the house we unpacked the groceries and I helped Sage cook the meanest BLTs I ever tasted. We had school tomorrow so right to bed we went.

I wake up and Sage is already handling breakfast.

The fanciest French toast I’ve ever seen and tasted.

After we were done with that we got dressed and did hygiene stuff and we were on our way.

The walk to school wasn’t interesting. Until we ran into Fang.

SAGE
“I didn’t know you went this way.”

FANG
“Yeah I usually don’t but I thought it best so I don’t run into Trish.”

SAGE
“Oh, did something happen between you two?”

Fang didn’t say anything in response. I can see the sadness in her eyes. Sage seems to see it too, he doesn’t press the topic any further.

The rest of the walk was pleasant. Sage and I going on about nerdy shit as usual and Fang just happy to listen.

FANG
“You’re both dweebs you know that?”

ANON
“Were fun dweebs.”

FANG
“So you two are going to be living together for the entire year?”

SAGE
“Yep, it’s been great so far.”

FANG
“Dweebs stick together.”

Fang said as she shrugged.

We eventually found our way to the school where we split up to head to our classes.

Math class was not any different than it normally was. Until I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I felt a cold familiar voice behind me. I knew who it was.

TRISH
“I know what you are, troonfucker.”

I flip around to look at the triglet. That smug look on her face.

She went back to her seat, still flashing that smile at me.

I’m not sure if I should be worried or not. I turn around and focus back on my work. That creeping feeling that something was off about Trish stayed until the end of class.

Science class also felt off.

Sage wasn’t talkative. He had a sad look on his face. It looked like he just got done crying his eyes out. He just did his work quietly. I didn’t want to bother him so I did the same. Fang was also focused and didn’t ask either of us questions.

Sage didn't even want to talk when it was done.

Eventually the bell rang and Sage just grabbed his bag and left. I followed him.

When we got to a nearby alleyway he stopped walking. He turned to me.

SAGE
“Do you ever just…wish you were someone else? Just wish some people wouldn’t bully you everyday just because you’re different?”

I couldn’t say anything.

SAGE
“I’ve wished that ever since the start of this year. It’s been the same every year. Every time I’m alone with no one to defend me. Everyone decides to be an asshole.”

Truly I felt where he was coming from.

SAGE
“I wish they would shut up, I wish they wouldn’t harass me every fucking day just because I’m a girl who decided he wanted to be a guy. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO FUCKING ASK?!?!”

He kicked a dumpster as hard as he could. A clear dent made in it.

SAGE
“The funny thing is when people are there to defend me they back down so easily. Like they care more about fitting in with the crowd.”

I’ve never seen this much fury out of him before.

SAGE
“You aren’t going to say anything? You’re not going to tell me to ignore them like every time I try and speak out?”

I feel a huff from him.

SAGE
“You’re just like the others aren’t you?”

He ran up and grabbed my shirt.

SAGE
“I WANT TO AT LEAST HEAR SOMETHING FROM YOU!”

I refuse to say anything. The shock of seeing him like this got to me.

SAGE
“SAY SOMETHING!”

I think now’s the time.

ANON
“I’m genuinely sorry this all happened to you.”

He looked at me confused but let go.

ANON
“Look, I may not know about this whole trans thing, but I know what’s it’s like to get treated like shit. In this world, There’s always assholes. Sometimes you can’t ignore them. But giving in means they win. Even if someone can’t defend you, just gotta tell them to fuck off.”

He listens intently.

ANON
“Even if no one’s there to defend you, that doesn’t mean you’re wrong or insignificant, it just means you gotta learn to defend yourself. That is what I had to do.”

It took a moment for Sage to process what I said. When it finally did he put his face in my shirt. I felt his tears.

I put my arms around him as he cried into said shirt. His muffled voice could be heard.

SAGE
“I’m so sorry…”

ANON
“Don’t be, I get it.”

We stood there for several minutes until I couldn’t feel his tears anymore. He looked up from my chest. His makeup was peeling off. Black tears rolled down his eyes from the eyeliner.

SAGE
“I’m sorry about the shirt.”

ANON
“It’s no problem.”

He got off my chest to regain his composure.

SAGE
“How about we head home and forget this ever happened.”

ANON
“Sounds good to me.”

I didn’t forget what happened. In fact it weighed heavily on my mind when we walked through the front door.

SAGE
“I’ll go and get cleaned up and we’ll cook some steak for tonight.”

I nodded as he went into the bathroom.

Thirty minutes went by when Sage finally came out of the bathroom.

ANON
“You feeling alright?”

SAGE
“I’m feeling better, thanks for asking.”

ANON
“What did happen at school today?”

Sage sighed.

SAGE
“When You get called slurs everyday you tend to forget.”

He smiled at me.

SAGE
“I just have to thank you for that little pep talk during that whole tantrum I had.”

ANON
“You’re welcome then.”

Sage went towards the kitchen and got the raw steaks ready.

By time he was done cooking them they looked magnificent. Even tasted it too.

SAGE
“Definitely a fine job I did on this meat.”

ANON
“You could be saying that about two different types of meat.”

SAGE
“NAH EW.”

I gave him a wicked smile.

Sage gave out a laugh.

SAGE
“I’ll admit that was funny.”

ANON
“I guess you could say I’m the comedian of the house.”

SAGE
“I wouldn’t go that far.”

We both laughed.

After we were done with dinner I did the dishes as usual.

After that we both got ready for bed. I took a shower and crawled into bed next to Sage. He was already passed out by the time I got there. I joined him in the realm of sleep soon after.

Ready for another day.

Chapter 9

Summary:

This is a filler chapter so don’t expect much.

Chapter Text

I on this lovely Friday woke up to the usual sight of Sage already getting breakfast ready.

ANON
“Do you ever just get simple?”

SAGE
“If I want to cook I’ll do that, besides, cereal is a terrible way to start off a morning.”

ANON
“If you say so, what’s on the menu today?”

SAGE
“You ever had a home cooked breakfast burrito?”

ANON
“No? I don’t think anyone has.”

SAGE
“I wonder why, it’s rather simple.”

For him at least it was. When he was done, we were left with some of the best burritos I’ve had in a while.

After breakfast was finished our morning was the same as before.

We didn’t talk about yesterday as we went through the day. I would say that’s for the best.

When I got to science I could tell Sage wanted to ask me something.

Fang was also anticipating, I can tell they wanted to talk to me about something. I listened intently for what they were about to say.

SAGE
“We were wondering if you would want to show up to a sleepover with Rosa.”

ANON
“The girl from my detention?”

SAGE
“Yeah that one.”

Fang chimes in.

FANG
“I’ll also be there along with Reed and Stella.”

SAGE
“Wasn’t Reed your former band mate?”

FANG
“Yeah, but he was fine. Trish was the problem. I mean he still talks to her but he’s still a good friend”

Sage nods.

The rest of the hour was uneventful. The bell rings and we walk together all the way to the front of the school.

FANG
“I can ask Naser to give us a ride, that is if Naomi didn’t already ask.”

ANON
“It’s worth a shot I guess.”

SAGE
“Agreed.”

Fang nods and I see her pull out her phone. After a few minutes Fang responds.

FANG
“He said yeah.”

I give Fang a thumbs up and we all wait a minute or two until Fang points out a sports car that looks a little beat up. We all walk up to it and Greet the brown pterodactyl as we get inside. Naser simply smiled.

NASER
“Yo Anon it’s good to see you man.”

He holds out his hand for a fist bump that I gladly do. It’s good to know he’s still a bro.

NASER
“Sib you said Rosa's house right?”

FANG
“Yes.”

NASER
“Sounds good.”

He takes it out of park and we were soon on our way.

NASER
“Sage I haven’t seen you in a bit, how have you been man?”

SAGE
“I’ve been doing fine honestly.”

NASER
“Well that’s good to hear.”

Sage
“So how have you been?”

NASER
“I’ve been doing alright myself.”

SAGE
“Anything happen?”

NASER
“Nah man.”

ANON
“So how long does it usually take to get to her house?”

NASER
“Around 13 minutes.”

I nod and phase out the rest of the conversation until we get there.

When we did, I noticed how nice it looked. It had a nice looking garden up front. The house itself had some nice architecture. The area it was in was far away from any other house. It seemed like it was on the edge of town.

SAGE
“She always had a nice house.”

FANG
“Yeah, it makes you wonder if her parents are rich.”

SAGE
“Knowing them, the only financial situation they have is how they are usually gonna spend it.”

FANG
“Hah.”

We get out of the car and wave Naser goodbye as he drives off. We take a stroll through the garden all the way to Rosa’s front door. Sage is the one who knocks on the door. When he does, we hear voices on the other side and immediately the door opens to the sight of the orange ankylosaur from my detention.

ROSA
“Fang, Anon, Sage! It’s good to see all of you.”

She immediately puts us all in a group hug which we reluctantly hug back. Rosa eventually lets go and greets us all inside.

ROSA
“Reed and Stella are waiting, come!”

We follow her to a green bedroom where a green stegosaurus and the pink raptor from the show from my first day. Reed stands up from the bed and he is on and greets me.

REED
“Yo you’re Anon right?”

ANON
“Yeah.”

REED
“It’s good to meet you man. I’m so sorry about what Trish did.”

ANON
“Eh it’s not your fault.”

He then turns to Sage.

REED
“I’m sorry about what Trish did to you too man.”

SAGE
“It’s all good man.”

REED
“Well I talked to Trish about it and she’s also sorry.”

Me and Sage look at eachother and nod. I’m assuming he also called bullshit on that. We decided not to say anything about it though.

ANON
“Well it’s good to meet you Reed.”

I hold my hand out for a handshake that he gladly takes.

Reed then goes to greet Fang.

I then turn to Sage.

ANON
“He was interesting.”

SAGE
“If you think that’s interesting wait until you find what he does as a side hustle.”

I raise a brow in response.

SAGE
“I’ll tell you later.”

ANON
“Alright then.”

Sage walks up to Stella who seems to be setting up and Xrox. I follow him, not sure who else to do.

SAGE
“Setting it up for the anime watch party I see.”

STELLA
“You know it, got any suggestions?”

SAGE
“Hm, how about Naruto.”

STELLA
“That’s a good one.”

ANON
“I’d watch.”

STELLA
“Oh hello Anon, I don’t think we properly met have we?”

ANON
“No actually.”

STELLA
“Well it’s good to finally meet you, Sage talks about you quite a bit.”

ANON
“Oh.”

STELLA
“A lot of interesting things too.”

SAGE
“Let’s not get too carried away.”

Stella lets out a laugh.

I look behind me and see Rosa walk out of the room. I focus back on the conversation as Stella finishes setting up the Xrox and pulls out a naruto blu-ray and inserts it. Not even a minute later Rosa comes back with a few boxes of pizza and some paper plates. She places them both on a table and we all huddle around it grabbing a plate and a slice. God this is the best pizza I’ve ever tasted.

I take a seat on the bed next to Sage as we all pay attention to the tv as Stella turns Naruto on.

We go through several episodes before it was time for us all to head to sleep. Rosa heads out of the room and comes back with a big air mattress. Me, Sage, and Reed ended up sharing that while Rosa, Stella, and Fang shared Rosa’s bed.

We all collectively fall asleep together.

Chapter Text

On the way to school Monday I received a mysterious text.

???:Meet at lunch today, I want to talk to you.

I showed it to Sage who also didn’t recognize the number.

SAGE
“The only way either of us knows who’s texting is if you ask them, either that or meet them at lunch.”

ANON
“What if it’s Trish?”

SAGE
“Well then I’ll head right over there and beat her trigger ass myself.”

ANON
“Remember what happened-“

SAGE
“I remember full well but I’ll do it anyway, that’s what friends are for.”

I nodded in response.

Eventually that fateful hour came around. I walk into the cafeteria and Naomi is waving me over. I walk to where she’s seated and wait for what she has to say.

NAOMI
“I’m sorry if this was sudden, we haven’t talked since you first showed up.”

ANON
“Yeah….”

NAOMI
“Let's go somewhere more private so we can discuss this, trust me it’s important.”

I nod and we both go to a hallway. I wait for her to talk first.

NAOMI
“It’s about Fang.”

ANON
“Okay? What about he- them?”

NAOMI
“I just want to say, thank you. This may not have gone according to plan, but you have been a good influence on them.”

Plan? What plan? I’m confused.

ANON
“I’m not sure what you mean by plan.”

She looked nervous. It took her a bit to answer.

NOAMI
“The plan in question was to get you and Fang together. So that way you could, let’s say ... .fix them.”

Fix them? What the hell is she on about?

ANON
“Look, Fang is a good friend. I know damn well that I’d just mess it up anyhow.”

Naomi looked at me in surprise.

ANON
“And fixing? I think we all could use a bit of that. Next time you come up with a plan like this, be a little more transparent. As for Fang, they are doing fine, they didn’t need me, they ‘fixed’ themselves.”

Her mouth was agape at this point. I decided to walk away. She tried yelling after me to no avail.

At science class I told them both what happened. Fang looked at me with shock and anger. But not at me. Sage looked at me in pure surprise.

FANG
“Anon. I’m sorry she tried to do that. I’ll talk with her and Naser about it. You’re a great friend but I don’t see you in that way.”

I nod.

SAGE
“That’s messed up for Naomi to even try to do. Anon I’m sorry she tried to manipulate you into doing that.”

ANON
“It’s not your fault Sage. Really it’s neither of your faults.”

Silence filled the table until the end of class.

——————————————————————

When the bell rung I told Anon I was sorry once more and left the room.

At the front of the school I pulled out my phone and sent Naser a text.

Fang: Naser, we need to talk.

Naser: About what?

Fang: I’ll explain when you get here

Naser: Alright.

Less than a minute later Naser pulled up. As I got in I can tell he was questioning me.

FANG
“It’s about Naomi.”

NASER
“What about her?”

FANG
“Did she discuss with you at all about any plans, specifically involving me?”

NASER
“No? Why do you ask?”

FANG
“Let's just say she tried and failed to set me up.”

NASER
“Set you up?”

FANG
“With Anon.”

His look of surprise couldn’t be any clearer.

NASER
“ I mean it couldn’t be that bad right-“

FANG
“Except she tried to manipulate him into doing it and so he could “fix” me.”

His surprise grew more visible.

NASER
“Wow that….that's a lot to take in.”

FANG
“Yeah, I know you’re happy with her but, we should probably consider talking to her.”

NASER
“Agreed.”

Naser calmly pulled out his phone.

NASER
“I have to say, thank you for telling me about this.”

FANG
“It’s no problem.”

Naser looked at his phone for a moment and then put it back into his pocket.

NASER
“She said she will be at our house waiting.”

I nodded as he headed. It was a calm drive. We didn’t say anything because we knew what we were thinking.

When we got to the house we waited patiently for Naomi.

Eventually her peach face showed up. With her fake plastic looking smile.

NAOMI
“What did you want to talk about?”

NASER
“It’s about Fang.”

NAOMI
“Oh, did she do anything?”

NASER
“No, they haven’t given me anything to worry about really.”

NAOMI
“Then what is it?”

FANG
“That you tried to get Anon to date me.”

Naomi looked at me in utter shock. She couldn’t believe it.

NASER
“Exactly that. When were you at least planning on telling me this?”

Naomi paused for more than a moment. It took her a minute just to get a word out.

NAOMI
I-I was…….planning on telling you……..as soon as possible?”

Even I could tell she was coming up with excuses on the spot. Naser thought about it for a moment.

NASER
“I think we’re done here.”

NAOMI
“W-what?”

NASER
“ I said I think we’re done here.”

NAOMI
“I’m not sure what you mean.”

NASER
“Get out of our house.”

I could tell his fury was going to increase. Naomi looked afraid. She stood there shaking.

NASER
“I SAID GET OUT!!!!!”

Naser shot up and I immediately grabbed him, pulling him back. Naomi took the initiative to leave. She fled in tears. I could almost feel sorry for her. Almost.

Naser calmed down after. I have never seen him so furious before. Towards Naomi especially.

NASER
“I’m going to bed.”

I nodded as he went upstairs into his room. Closing the door. I was tired myself so I did the same.

This year is turning into one hell of a year hasn’t it?

I drift off to sleep. At least that was better than me losing my best friend but it probably still hurt him. I feel sorry for him in that way. I’m sure he will heal from it though. Me? Not so much.

Sleep overtakes me.

Chapter 11

Chapter Text

I woke up the next day to silence as I usually did. Dad was usually out doing whatever the fuck cops did and mom was usually asleep. Naser was at the kitchen table pouring himself a bowl of cereal. He looked pretty sad.

FANG
“Morning Naser.”

He looked up at me and spoke in a depressing tone to his usual voice.

NASER
“Morning Fang…”

I felt sorry for him considering what happened last night.

FANG
“Are you doing alright?”

Naser didn’t say anything for a moment. He just stared at me. He then sighed.

NASER
“Honestly Fang, not really. Considering My girlfriend turned out to be manipulative and tried to turn you back into something you clearly weren’t happy with and to top it all off she now probably hates my guts now.”

I was the one silent for a moment. He was going through a lot and it all happened so quickly. Safe to say I get why he wasn’t in the mood.

FANG
“Naser, you wanna talk about this on the way to school?”

NASER
“I’d rather not talk about this at all.”

I nod and we go through the rest of our morning not speaking to each other until we get to the car. I think now was about the time I released this weight off my chest for the first time.

FANG
“Naser, I’m sorry…”

NASER
“Sorry for what?”

FANG
“What do you mean? I’ve been treating you like shit ever since that accident all because I couldn’t bother to look at you without being reminded of my fuck up.”

NASER
“Fuck up?”

FANG
“Naser, you don’t know how much I blame myself for what happened that day.”

He calmly put a hand on my shoulder, and gave me a soft smile.

NASER
“And you don’t know how much you mean to me.”

FANG
…Nase-“

NASER
“We were kids then, we’re different now.”

He took his hand off my shoulder.

NASER
“You’re stronger than you think you are.”

I smiled at him, he smiled back. It felt like at this moment that we truly connected again. Something we haven’t done since childhood. And it felt wonderful.

Soon enough the school came into view. Anon and Sage were at the bottom of the steps, seeming to have been waiting for me. They saw me step out of the car along with Naser.

SAGE
“Yo we were waiting for you.”

FANG
“Well that’s new.”

ANON
“Anything for a friend you might say.”

FANG
“We just met several weeks ago Anon, we aren't that close.”

ANON
“Close enough.”

FANG
“So how have you two been?”

SAGE
“We were doing fine, Anon was just talking about how worried he was about Naomi.”

FANG
“I think she’ll be fine, I don’t think she’d shoot up the school or anything that stupid.”

NASER
“Oh my raptor Jesus the day that happens.”

FANG
“Considering last night you’d be the first on her hit list.”

NASER
“Never trust a parasaur with a gun.”

ANON
“Ha, she probably wouldn’t know how to fire the damn thing.”

FANG
“She’s quite the bookworm. I wouldn't underestimate her.”

SAGE
“Yeah hate to say it but she’s quite the nerd.”

NASER
“None of you know the half of it.”

The bell soon rang putting the conversation to an end, we waved each other goodbye and went to our usual classes.

_________________________________________

Seeing Fang and Naser in such high spirits showed that whatever confrontation happened went somehow well. Though I did notice going through the day, where was Naomi anyhow. She was absent the entire day. When Science came I took the opportunity to ask if they saw her.

SAGE
“No, haven’t seen a glimpse of her, it’s really weird.”

FANG
“Same here.”

ANON
“I guess that confrontation went horribly.”

FANG
“Oh my raptor Jesus it was pretty bad. She ran home crying.”

SAGE
“That does sound pretty bad. Hopefully nothing to worry about.”

FANG
“I’d be surprised if she hurt herself over it.”

ANON
“It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities.”

FANG
“If she was willing to go so far just for Naser, yeah.”

SAGE
“Good point, you think we should check up on her?”

ANON
“Do either of you know where she lives?”

FANG
“You think I wouldn’t? I’ll just have to ask Naser to drive us there.”

SAGE
“Maybe you or Naser shouldn’t enter he house for an obvious reason.”

FANG
“Well no shit, she’s probably pissed at me and would by far try to kill Naser. However, I think I should go it alone.”

ANON
“Are you crazy?”

FANG
“Anon I don’t she would want to talk to you either.”

ANON
“Good point I guess.”

SAGE
“Well just tell us if it goes well alright?”

FANG
“Will do, even if I’m having my doubts.”

Those doubts carried to the end of class. Even as I made my way out of the school's entrance where Naser was waiting. I take no time to tell him what I’m planning.

NASER
“Are you sure you won’t need any help?”

FANG
“I’m very sure.”

NASER
“Alright then, your funeral.”

I ignore his snide remark as he drives me to Naomi's house. Her house was very elegant, you could tell her family had money. Naser parks the car on the sidewalk near her house.

NASER
“Call me if you need anything.”

FANG
“Already planned on doing that.”

We smile at each other and I step out of the car and make my way to the house. The only sound being Nasers tires peeling out as I make my way to the front entrance. I give the door a gentle knock. Immediately I’m greeted by the face of a depressed and pale looking parasaur. She looked at me with annoyance.

NAOMI
“….what do you want..”

FANG
“I came to talk.”

NAOMI
“About what? I’m an absolute bitch?”

FANG
“No-“

NAOMI
“What then? A pity party?”

FANG
“It seems like you’re giving yourself that.”

NAOMI
“Fuck you.”

FANG
“Naomi…I know I haven’t treated you the best-“

NAOMI
“Thanks for pointing out the obvious smartass. Now how about you get off the porch, your boots are ruining the rug.”

I looked down and she was right. I didn’t care though.

FANG
“Look Naomi, I-“

NAOMI
“You’re what-“

FANG
“I’m sorry.”

Those two words made her slightly stumble back.

FANG
“I never gave you a proper chance, and for that, I’m sorry. I was horrible for the way I treated you.”

She put her hand up to my face. She looked like she was about to be in tears. She looked at me in utter shock.

NAOMI
“That’s all I needed to hear.”

I take it as an opportunity to hug her out of nowhere. She wraps herself around my shoulders and I feel her tears across my back.

FANG
“I guess this is your way of saying I forgive you?”

NAOMI
“….yes…”

I give her a smile. She smiles back.

Yeah I think this is gonna work out.

Notes:

I know it’s been quite a while, especially considering I completely left the snoot community. It’s ironic I do that then here I am writing a chapter for a snoot game fic don’t you say? This one has been in a grey area and on hiatus for some time now. I didn’t think I’d ever write for it again.

You guys at least deserve to see this story until the very end. I thank all of you for all the love and support this fic had gotten.
