Work Text:

Gabang was displeased— No, that was not right.

Gabang was furious.

Her human was in danger again, and she did not know if he would make it this time. There were quite a few of those ugly beasts, and the Protector was not doing everything for them this time.

She could see the logic in making her human stronger, but then again, she was a simple creature. Why should he need to become stronger, as there are other options? It felt cruel. However, she had never been a parent, and the Protector seemed to be. She would acquiesce to his superior experience with what is necessary for proper growth.

Still, the power itched under her skin, making all her fur stand on end. There was much discomfort in keeping her true abilities hidden. It was a necessary evil, true, but she was growing tired of it.

The tangy scent of unnatural blood filled her nostrils. She buried her face in the coverings of her human to drown it out, keeping a watchful eye on the beasts that drew a little too close.

Light flickered in the corner of her eye, and she turned to observe it. The source was the little beast that followed her human and his companions annoyingly. She narrowed her eyes. While she did not understand the human language, she could comprehend their body language quite well – oftentimes better than the other humans, which was strange – and the little beast was making her human angrier than she had ever seen him.

That would not do.

No, she could not have that. If this did not resolve itself within a reasonable amount of time, she would have to solve the problem herself.

The little beast, who the other humans referred to as “Mildred,” kept speaking. Her human, as well as most of his companions, became angry to the point of decreased battle analysis. Her human was in danger.

Gabang had no choice.

She leapt from her human’s coverings directly onto the little beast, tackling it to the ground. One spark of power was enough to keep it trapped under her smaller body.

It squealed like a stuck pig, but that only caused her to become more pleased with her methods. It wouldn’t be squealing for long.

Gabang bit off a large chunk of Mildred’s face. Its screaming hurt her ears, but that was alright. She was helping her human. Its meat was mediocre in both taste and texture, not to mention the vile sensation of fur sliding down her throat, but this was the best revenge.

Arrogant predators should be eaten like the prey they tormented.

She could have bitten in a vital area, but she wanted it to hurt. She wanted agony to course through its veins. She wanted excruciating pain to drown out any peaceful memories that could overtake its brain in its final moments.

Gabang consumed Mildred slowly as it wailed. It was the least pleasant thing she had ever eaten, but inflicting such torture was ever sweeter.

When Mildred was little more than scraps of blood-soaked flesh clinging to bone, it went still. Gabang stepped back with a sigh. She would not complete this meal; no, the punishment was over, and her human had much better food.

She sauntered back to her human, called “Si-Woo,” with pride. His temporarily shocked face mattered little, though she did hope he appreciated her efforts – Mildred tasted terrible.
