Work Text:
His cheeks were still flushed from their exertions when he pulled out the book again. She thought at first it was simply a peculiarly suave way for him to seduce her. There wasn’t a need for it, and she quickly forgot about it once his hand covered her scarred one, and his mouth was on hers.
He was beautiful in the warm glow of the ever-present setting sun, comfortable with his familiar bed and books conjured around him as he quickly made his way back to the bed, book in hand. There was an easy swagger in his step she hadn’t seen before too, and she eyed him closely as he slipped under the cool sheets, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
He kissed her softly on her head. An errant, soft, foreign sigh escaped her. She scrunched her nose up in habit, the skin stretching uncomfortably in some form of recompense.
“I know we didn’t get the chance to skim through this like I planned…”
“You really did?”
A soft chuckle rumbled through his chest as she burrowed further into his arms, her nose brushing his neck.
“Well, yes. I’ve read through it quite a few times,” he was beginning to sound the way he did when he was explaining some arcane rules to her, enthralled by the mere exercise of knowledge, “But it’s, uh… Seems to be better suited for two. And more fun in that regard.”
An earnest snort escaped her, “Oh, I’m sure that’s true.”
He hummed, warmth coating the sound, “You don’t sound convinced, my heart.”
She peeked up at him from her nest against his chest, his hand rubbing soothing circles against a gnarled scar on her shoulder which still occasionally ached, and never healed quite right. She wondered if he knew.
His eyes were teasing. They were happy, too. Though under that she could still see the trepidation and worry that clouded their every action and step.
“Tell me more. And maybe I could be swayed.”
His smile, so eager, was her answer, and she felt her lips tugging up in turn.
