Notes:

Part of my PJSK April Fools 2024 — Time Traveling oneshot series!
Series context: everyone has had their memories erased as they got separated into the two SEKAIs, past and future. They’re trying to go home, yet, while trying to find a solution, a certain inventor manages to create a portal between both SEKAIs.

Work Text:

All four of them had promised to not touch anything while they were there, they really did, but…

Was it that bad to be curious? It was a lost backpack after all, and he was hungry. He wasn’t even home when it happened; nothing indicated that eating that pudding would backfire…

…so why is he being interrogated now?!

“It was you!” the blue haired boy in front of him exclaims with certainty. He wasn’t particularly loud—there’s a certain graciousness to him—yet somehow that wouldn’t stop him from slightly puffing his cheeks in indignation.

“How would you know?? You weren’t even there…” he protests the claim.

“The smell is unmistakable.” He crosses his arms like he had just achieved some sort of indisputable checkmate.

“…my smell? Are you saying you can smell me?! That’s fucking ridiculous!”

“What? That’s not it!” he shakes his head, “the sweet!”

“Eh–” Akito’s eyebrows furrow at the realization for a moment; he wipes his slightly sticky hands on his suit, trying to be as discreet as possible. Something he clearly, wasn’t very good at…

“Excuse me? I saw that!”

“Man– let me be, no?! For all you know it could be any random pudding—how do you even get the ingredients for that stuff there? You tellin’ me you found a cow amongst the dinosaurs?”

He narrows his gray eyes in return, giving Akito a sharp look, “how do you know it was pudding? And how do you know exactly where you got it from?”

“Uh– shit…” he sighs.

“Do you have any idea how much I struggled to do that?! It’s really hard to get anything in primordial times!” He rants, hands in waist.

“Fine! I did get it, the fuck do you want me to do though? Get you a new one?!”

“…” Toya tilts his head for a moment, then quickly replies: “yes!”

“Eh.”

“You can get everything really easily for me right? And you have a kitchen, right…?”

“Uh…” he looks at the boy for a moment. So much trouble, but he did feel bad for being irresponsible like that. “Sure. I don’t know about the kitchen.”

He stares at Akito with sad, pleading eyes, “I’ll make you sweets in return; please…?”

Akito quickly grabs his hand and shakes it, “fine! Deal!”

“…that’s a relief!” he relaxes his pose, “ah, how rude of me, I haven’t even introduced myself yet… I’m Aoyagi Toya.”

“Shinonome Akito. Just Akito is fine.”

“I see, nice to meet you,” he gives a genuine, heartfelt smile, “and thank you so much, Shinonome.” He addresses him politely.

“Uh–” his face heats up, without even knowing why, “you’re welcome…”

He made a fuzz about baking this, right…?

So how come—how come this guy was struggling this hard at it!?

“Oi, Toya! How are you taking this long?!” Akito’s sitting by the table, hand supporting his chin as he waits impatiently for Toya to finish the pudding so he could get to making him pancakes.

“I already told you—don’t rush me!” he protests in return, the characteristic pout stamped on his face.

It took him a lot of work, a lot of trial and error, to perfect his cooking… he couldn’t help but be so slow at it. He did struggle but at least he didn’t commit any mistakes anymore; well, the majority of times he didn’t.

He carefully separates the yolks from the egg whites…

Without warning, a weight rests on his shoulder. Toya jumps slightly at the contact.

“Whatchu doing?” Akito asks, looking over Toya’s shoulder.

Although he’s bothered, Toya can’t bring himself to push Akito away for some reason…

“N…nothing much.” He continues separating the yolks and measuring ingredients, “I’m going to just mix everything up…”

He takes the whisker, his usually perfectly coordinated hands trembling under the pressure of being watched and touched.

Akito can’t help but stare at Toya’s slender fingers. There was something inherently attractive about them to him as he watched Toya whisk the mixture carefully.

“You’re too slow,” he says before grabbing Toya’s hand and guiding him to do it faster. Maybe it was just an excuse to grab his hand, but he didn’t care.

“Akito!” he becomes too bothered to not address his overwhelming presence, trying to brush him off unsuccessfully. He manages to get some mixture on himself while doing so.

“Sorry.” Akito drops the whisker before turning Toya towards him, “you got some on your face.”

“H-huh?”

“Here.” He licks some pudding mixture out of Toya’s nose and gives it a gentle bite, unwarranted. “You leave your guard down too much.”

Toya yelps in return, speechless at the action. His cheeks are a pinkish hue and his eyes are widened.

“…can’t do that.” He lets out inaudibly.

“Huh?” Akito asks, still inches away from Toya’s face.

“You can’t do that!!!” Toya pulls away before wiping his nose off with his sleeve clumsily, trying to shake off the bashfulness.

“Ehhh. I just wanted to have a taste, though.” He lies shamelessly.

“Then have the whisker!” He turns to Akito and offers it as he’s done using it.

“Hmm,” he instead takes Toya’s entire hand, then nibbles on his fingers that covered in the batter.

“HEY!” the naive boy can tell it wasn’t just for tasting the pudding now, trying to retreat his hand unsuccessfully. He can’t help but fuss over the action.

“It’s good.” Akito says, licking his lips.

“…I’m DONE with you!!” he says heatedly, his face burning from all sorts of emotions. “Out of the kitchen, out!” he starts pushing Akito angrily.

“Ow ow– what about my pancakes??”

“I’ll give them to you when I’m done with them—out!”

Not wanting to anger the stubborn blue haired boy further, Akito simply accepts this outcome. “It’s fine, I’ll get more time to tease him later,” he thought in amusement.

“See ya.” He chuckles before leaving the kitchen.

Akito sighs and leans against a wall—“wait until he finds out this kitchen isn’t even mine,” he thinks to himself.

He keeps staring into the oblivion as he reminisces about what just happened with a grin, oblivious to his surroundings.

“Hmmm, so you’re interested in that one? Fufu.” Haruka—the owner of said kitchen—appears after observing for a while and giggles, touching her chin in amusement.

“Oi, quit it!” he reprimands, embarrassed that it was very much true. “Not like you don’t like that short girl with the light brown hair either.”

“At least I admit it, no?” she fiddles with her sleeve, “if you like him you should do like me and say so.”

“Uhuh… maybe.” He crosses his arms.

“Well, you do you,” she throws Akito a key that he quickly catches, “don’t forget to close up after leaving; I have a date to go to now.”

“Hey, ya leaving me here without a car?”

“Why don’t you two walk back and talk a bit?” she winks, almost as if sparkling, “consider that I’m giving you an opportunity.

Akito rolls his eyes and watches as Haruka gracefully walks into her car and drives off into the night.
