Clint bounced his baby girl, barely able to keep his eyes open. "Your mama--your Aunt Nat is trying to sleep. "Do you think you might quiet down?" Clint asked.
Pippa continued to wale in her daddy's arms.
"Please,," Clint said. "I bet you woulddn't make that noise at your poppy. He wouldn't put up with it. Your poppy was a bad-ass. You'd be good for him. Would you be good for me if I sang for you?"
Pippa stopped crying as her daddy spoke softly.
Clint smiled down at Pippa and began to sing Have You Never Been Mellow.
