Work Text:

He was alone again.

Perhaps this was just his destiny. A cycle, one he couldn’t overlook. One he couldn’t escape even with eyes that saw all and understood it.

He’d been foolish. Sacrificing his treasury on a whim for a simple human, taking her hand and pulling her light years away. They were both spiritrons, but she was still human. Humans were weak. Humans die so easily, even made of a digital body. A wrong move, a lack of preparation, that was all it took.

He stood alone, face blank, in an empty alleyway. Across from him was just enough space for another person to stand. And there had been one here, so recently. Only a moment ago, until a simple idiotic mistake removed all trace.

Time did not pass the same here. In Uruk, the rain had dried and the sun rose, what remained of that person began to rot away. Here, the sky remained the same for eternity, and that person was gone into nothing but specks of data in an instant. His body felt stiff. Not even thinking of how long he’d been standing here, he could not recall how long it had been since he last blinked.

Why had he done this. Here he was, out in the stars he’d longed to see. His life’s work. Humanity would follow, and he would meet them once they spread their wings throughout the heavens. How long would that take, he wondered. That was one thing he couldn’t see. He’d simply have to wait, no different from the original plan.

After all, it was not suitable for a king to take his own life.

He was alone again.
