After the third time his phone began ringing on his bedside table, Enzo finally gave up and turned onto his other side. He sniffled and mumbled in annoyance as he reached out to grab the infernal device. Who the fuck was calling him? It had better not be one of his friends calling for him to let them in. Enzo made had made it clear that he did not want any visitors the moment after Chelsea's head doctor put him on mandatory sick leave so that he wouldn't infect the entire team.
"Hello?" Enzo said, the annoyance in his voice clear despite how stuffy he undoubtedly sounded.
"Sorry cariño, did I wake you?"
"Leo?!" Enzo somewhat shouted upon hearing his boyfriend's voice, "N-no! Well, yes but it's okay. I wasn't napping for long."
"We both know that's a lie," Leo stated.
"Yeah..." Enzo admitted a little embarrassed. Truth be told, he didn't intend to nap for three hours when he laid down in his bed earlier but it just kind of happened. Can you blame him though? Being sick was exhausting and his bed was just so comfy.
"Earth to Enzo," Leo said, regaining the younger's attention, "Don't fall back asleep on me now."
"Sorry, sorry," Enzo apologized, stifling a yawn. Just thinking about napping made him want to curl up in bed again.
"No need to apologize chulo," Leo affirmed, causing Enzo to blush.
"By the way," Enzo said, "How come you called?"
"What? I need a reason to call my boyfriend now?"
"No. Just curious."
"Well I wanted to check on you for one," Leo replied, "How are you feeling?"
That question really set Enzo off. He went on about how he was faring with his illness for nearly twenty minutes. The headaches, the chills, his goddamn runny nose. Enzo didn't leave anything out. It felt kind of good to complain and talk freely like this. Especially to Leo since he knew that the older man was listening intently. He always did, even when Enzo would ramble for hours about random topics.
"Oh, and Leo?"
"Hmm?"
"What's the second thing?" Enzo asked.
"The second thing?" Leo echoed, slightly confused as to what Enzo was referring until it hit him, "Oh, yes. I'm coming to see you."
"Huh?"
"I'm in England," Leo clarified, "I'm coming to visit you."
"Eh? You're almost here?" Enzo asked, his brain not quite processing the information Leo was giving him. He was here, in England? Wasn't he supposed to be recovering from an injury? Will he get in trouble for this?
"Not quite," Leo answered, bringing Enzo out of his mini spiral, "There's a bit of traffic to get out of this supermarket parking lot. I won't be at your flat for at least twenty minutes."
Twenty minutes? That was far too long for Enzo to wait. The last time he and Leo got to spend time together in person was months ago on international duty. He wanted to see Leo now! Illness be damned.
"Can you get here any faster?" Enzo asked, sitting up on his bed and clutching his phone tighter against his ear. His impatience definitely made it over the phone as Leo laughed. It was sweet sound that was music to Enzo's ears. Though in this case, it just made the younger Argentine flush a bit in embarrassment.
"I thought you didn't want any visitors," Leo said a bit teasingly.
"Who told you tha- Julián," Enzo interrupted himself, shaking his head as Leo's light chuckle confirmed his accusation.
"Do you still want me to-"
"Yes!" Enzo cut off Leo. Unfortunately, that yell was the one to trigger a small coughing fit. "You're the exception," he finished once it passed.
"Aww," Leo cooed, that teasing tone in his voice again, "I'm honoured to be your exception."
"Leo!" Enzo shouted in exasperation, his cheeks growing hotter once again. Enzo thanked God that Leo couldn't see his face right now.
"Alright, I'm done teasing," Leo said, though his tone made the statement not quite ring true, "See you soon amorcito."
With that Leo ended the call, leaving Enzo a blushing and impatient mess until he arrived twenty minutes later; Just like he said. Enzo had hauled himself out of his bed as soon as the call ended and waited by the front door for it to chime. When it did, he opened it to see a smug Leo holding a bag of groceries. Leo was going to cook for him no doubt.
"So, I'm you're exception eh?"
"Don't start. I'll cough on you."
