Day 6: Royality

An aspiring star meets his perfect compliment.

Work Text:

Roman intertwined his hands nervously. Today was his big day. He was finally getting a chance to audition for his dream role, and he was so excited! He had spent all month rehearsing, and he was absolutely sure that he would nail this performance. All he had to do was stay focused.

Roman was pulled out of his thoughts by someone sitting down beside him. He glanced over to see a boy about his age with fluffy ginger hair, glasses, and a soft dusting of freckles on his cheeks and nose.

"Hello!" the boy said with a smile. "I'm Patton!"

"Roman." Patton flinched back slightly at the curt tone Roman used.

"I'm sorry, I'm probably bothering you," Patton mumbled. "I'll leave you alone."

Patton stood up to go. Without thinking, Roman reached for his arm. "Wait." Patton stopped and turned around, eyes hopeful. "Do you.. can you stay? Please?"

Patton's eyes widened, but he smiled brightly. That smile kicked up butterflies in Roman's stomach, a feeling he was all too familiar with. He fell for people way too easily.

Still smiling, Patton sat back down. “Which role are you auditioning for?” he asked, voice chipper.

“The prince, of course! And you?”

Patton giggled. “I think I’ll just stick to the prop crew. Don’t have to worry about messing up lines, you know?”

“That’s why we learn improv, is it not?”

“I suppose so!”

The two talked for a while longer, Roman relatively slowly developing feelings until he was full-on infatuated. And even if he failed his audition, Roman knew he’d be telling his brother all about the cute boy he met backstage.
