New Kid

Summary:

Day 11: Anxciet

When a new side enters the mindscape, Deceit goes to investigate.

Work Text:

It was a normal day for Deceit, spying on the light sides and being envious—a fact he would never admit—when he felt something in the mindscape.. shift. Curious and slightly apprehensive, he exited his room to see a new door forming in the hallway.

Deceit blinked a few times, not believing what he saw. The last time a new side had appeared was three years ago when Morality split Creativity apart into two halves, which probably didn’t count. If not, then it was his own appearance when Thomas was 5 or so.

Deceit approached the door nervously. Who would this new side be? Didn’t Thomas have everyone he needed?

When Deceit pushed open the door, it was pitch black except for the faint light streaming in from the hallway. Deceit then realized how close this side was to the lightside-darkside border, but pushed the thought out of his mind.

Deceit first saw some type of web. Spider web or cobweb, he couldn’t tell. As he stepped inside, he saw that the room looked like a hotel room, specifically the one Thomas was in at that very moment.

It was quiet, too quiet. Deceit listened and heard muffled sobbing coming from his left, which was where the bathroom was. He rushed in there to find a young boy huddled in the corner, bed sheets wrapped around him tightly. His black hair made him indistinguishable from the shadows spreading out around him. One of his hands was clutching a sheet for dear life and the other was over his mouth as he tried to suppress a sob. What Deceit could see of his outfit was a dark gray short-sleeved top and pale skin.

Deceit crouched in front of the new side. “Hey, hey hey hey, I need you to breathe,” he said, reaching out to place a hand on his shoulder. The side hissed at him, black eyes filled with tears. He was clearly terrified. “Hey, it’s ok, I only want to help,” Deceit reassured.

“I-I wanna go home..” the side whined softly, finally meeting Deceit’s gaze.

“And we can go home,” the lying side replied. “But first I need you to calm down.” The side nodded and took a few deep breaths. They were shaky at first, but slowly evened out. “Are you calm now?” The side nodded again.

Deceit stood up and offered a hand to the side, whose attribute he still did not know. “Then let’s go home.” The side unwrapped himself and Deceit could see that he had matching black leggings and gray sneakers on. He took Deceit’s hand cautiously and they walked to Remus’s room, Deceit silently vowing to never let anything hurt the monochrome bundle walking with him.
