Work Text:
Sometimes Korn wishes he could fall asleep as easily as Wai did. Granted it’s a skill his boyfriend had to learn due to his packed schedule with rugby, classes and work but still, it was enviable the way Wai just had to close his eyes for a few seconds before he nodded off.
Movies weren’t safe from Wai’s “power naps” either. Two hours ago, Korn had left for the library with Pat and Mo, Wai having declined in favour of watching a movie and also because he “Wanted to preserve his brain cells,”
Korn had come back from an exhausting study session filled with nothing but confusion, looking forward to curling up on the couch with his boyfriend and being fed food. Except said boyfriend was snuggled under a lump of blankets, snoring ever so slightly.
He sighs, reluctant to wake Wai up, especially when he looks so soft and peaceful like this. Deciding to be the bigger man, he quietly bends down and pats around until he finds the perfect position to gently lift his sleeping boyfriend into his arms. As carefully as he can, he makes his way over to their bedroom, pushing the door open with his foot and lays Wai down, blankets and all.
Just as he makes to pull away, a hand shoots out from the lump and latches onto his wrist.
“Stay?” comes the muffled question and who is Korn to deny such an adorable request? He quickly changes into something more comfortable and clambers into bed, grin growing wider when Wai wiggles around enough to pull the blankets up high enough to allow Korn to slide under them before cocooning them both inside again.
“Sleepy?” Korn asks, even though he already knows the answer.
“Mh-hm,” Wai replies, already dozing off. Korn presses a light kiss to his forehead and settles down for a much-needed nap.
2.
Wai is stubborn.
Korn is very familiar with this fact.
But it still doesn’t stop the sigh of exasperation escaping him when Pran calls him at nearly one in the morning to tell him that his boyfriend had fallen asleep in the middle of their study session.
He’d warned Wai that his shift at the bar would’ve tired him out more than he realized but his frustratingly independent boyfriend had refused to yield and had gone off to study with Pran despite having been in classes the whole day before work.
Which is why Korn is currently walking to Pran’s apartment in the middle of the night to retrieve his wayward boyfriend. The first thing he sees when Pran opens the door is the figure of Wai curled up on the couch, cheek smushed against a pillow.
“He fell asleep at the table but Pat managed to shift him to the couch before he gave himself a crick in the neck,” Pran explains as Korn approaches the sleeping boy. He makes a mental note to thank Pat.
Wai doesn’t stir when Korn tries shaking him awake. A testament to how exhausted he is. He takes a few seconds to think about it before shifting around and motioning to Pran, “Help me get him onto my back, I’ll just carry him home,”
Pran smirks, clearly wanting to say something but thinking better of it. Somehow, Wai stays asleep throughout the entire process, even when Korn accidentally knocks his shoulder into the wall.
“Text me when you reach,” Pran whisper-yells as they make their way down the hallway. Wai remains fast asleep throughout the entire journey back, only stirring a bit when Korn stumbles into their apartment. He sets Wai down on the bathroom counter and wets a face towel under warm water before beginning to wipe away at the pen marks on Wai’s face.
“K’rn?” Wai murmurs, eyelids fluttering.
“Hey baby,” Korn coos, “You fell asleep at Pran’s and he called me to come get you. Just relax, okay? I’ll help you get ready for bed,”
“M’kay,” Wai replies before his eyes close again and Korn is overwhelmed at the sheer trust Wai puts in him. He quickly helps Wai into his pyjamas, an oversized tank top of Korn’s and ratty gym shorts before pulling him into bed.
“Stubborn stubborn man,” he says fondly, running a hand through Wai’s hair, “Next time, just sleep,”
“You got it, boss,” Wai says sleepily before snuggling in until his head fits perfectly under Korn’s chin, the scent of his jasmine shampoo wafting up to Korn’s nose.
Burying his face in Wai’s locks, Korn drifts off into a deep sleep.
3.
“Whipped bastard,”
Korn glares over Wai’s head, tightening his arms around his boyfriend, who was peacefully dozing away on his lap, and sticks his tongue out at Chang who scowls, “Shut the fuck up, Chang,”
It’s movie night at Pran’s house. A monthly ritual, sacred to their little family. It was bad luck that Wai always wanted to cuddle when watching movies and Korn was helpless to his boyfriend’s demands. Especially when those big, cow eyes turned on him.
“He always ends up falling asleep when you cuddle him,” Safe complains, “Stop giving into him so much!”
“Over my dead body!”
“Children!” Ink groans, levying them with a long-suffering stare, “Just shut the fuck up and play the goddamn movie,”
“I think it’s cute, P’Korn,” Pa whispers, leaning over, “P’Wai never looks as relaxed as he does when he falls asleep next to you,”
Korn allows himself to feel slightly smug at that.
Chang grumbles but settles down, not willing to incur Ink’s wrath.
By the end of the second movie, nearly everyone’s asleep. Both Jindapat siblings are sprawled across their partners, effectively pinning them down. Chang’s drooling on Mo who’s peacefully snoring away, using Louis’ stomach as a pillow and hugging Safe’s leg as a makeshift plushie.
Wai’s snoring softly, little puffs of air against Korn’s neck. Pran catches Korn’s eye as he slides one arm under Wai’s knees and the other across his back and stands up, “You guys can take the bed,” he whispers, “I don’t think I’m going to get up anytime soon,” he gestures to Pat who unconsciously snuggles in further as if to prove his point further.
Korn snorts softly, “Okay,” He tiptoes around the others and makes his way over to Pat and Pran’s room, silently making a note to ask Pran the kind of mattress he bought because how the fuck is it so soft and fluffy?Wai must be thinking along the same lines, making a happy noise in his sleep as he wriggles under the covers. Korn takes a moment to take in the sight of his boyfriend, peaceful and free of worries before crawling in next to him. Sensing the movement, Wai stretches out and pulls him closer, plastering himself against Korn’s back like a particularly clingy koala.
It’s not often that Korn gets to be the little spoon so he quickly settles down and lets the steady thump of Wai’s heart lull him to sleep.
4.
Wai loves Korn’s house.
It’s a cosy two-room bungalow, tucked away in between some trees, a five-minute walk away from the beach. What’s even better is the large reading room looking out onto the garden, filled with books of all kinds, lovingly collected by Korn’s mothers. How his boyfriend didn’t inherit their love of reading is beyond Wai.
There are comfy armchairs dotted around the room, the perfect size for Wai to curl up on and get lost in the pages for hours and it’s where he finds himself now, a murder mystery novel open on his lap, legs dangling over the arm of the chair. There’s a warm breeze blowing in through the open window. Paired with feeling of utter bliss it’s not long before Wai finds himself nodding off.
*
“Mom, have you seen Wai?” Korn calls, ambling out of his bedroom.
“Your Mae said he was in the reading room and I haven’t seen him come out yet,” Lawan calls, elbow-deep in soapy dishwater, “There’s snacks on the table for him to eat,”
“None for me?” Korn complains, “I’m your son,”
“And Wai is her favorite,” Kanda says, striding inside, gardening gloves in hand, “The lilies are all planted, sweetheart,”
Lawan beams, “Thank you darling. Settle down, I’ll make you some tea as soon as I’m done,” she turns to Korn, “You, go get Wai,”
“No love in this house for me,” Korn grumbles under his breath, pouting when his Mae starts cackling. He makes his way to the reading room, fully intending on collecting some cuddles he knows Wai will give him out of pity, only to find his boyfriend passed out on the armchair, head lolling forward uncomfortably.
“Should’ve known,” Korn sighs, “Even books stand no chance against you,”
He bends down and scoops Wai up into his arms, “Sleepy little shit,” he says, voice affectionate. He makes his way out, careful not to bump into anything.
“Korn can—Oh,” Lawan calls as they pass by the kitchen, “I guess the snacks can wait,” she laughs, “Someone was clearly tired,”
Kanda smiles at the sight, “Let him sleep,” she says, “He can join us for dinner,”
“And I can have his snacks?” Korn asks hopefully.
Kanda snorts, “Nice try, your mom made that for him and him only. Now get that boy in bed,”
“This is blatant favoritism!” Korn calls over his shoulder.
“You know it!” Come the twin replies followed by giggles. Korn rolls his eyes. His mothers had wasted no time in fawning over Wai the second Korn brought him home to meet them and their affection for the boy had only grown from there. To the point where they called his boyfriend more times than they called him. Wai snuffles a little bit and his eyes flutter open, blearily taking in his surroundings as Korn sets him down on the bed, “We’re sleeping?”
“You were supposed to,” Korn chuckles, “I’m keeping you company,”
“I’m not sleepy anymore but I don’t mind some snuggles,” Wai says and pulls him down onto the bed. Korn allows Wai to manhandle him into a position he deems acceptable and waits for Wai to arrange the pillows and blankets to his liking before opening up his arms and beckoning his boyfriend closely.
Wai collapses on him, warm and solid.
“You’re lucky you’re cute,” Korn tells him, “I wouldn’t just let anyone crush me, you know?”
“Crush?!” Wai squawks in offense, “Are you calling me fat?”
“Wait no-” Korn hurries to correct himself except he finds nimble fingers digging into his sides, sending him into a fit of laughter, “Wai! I didn’t mean it like that! Wait-Please-I swear–”
“Too late,” Wai growls playfully, “Now suffer,”
They dissolve into a heap of giggles and cuddle until Korn’s mom comes to fetch them for dinner.
5.
“This was our best idea yet!” Korn sighs, sinking back against the luxurious sheets, “I never want to leave,”
“We were definitely due for a vacation,” Wai smiles, leaning against the dooframe, “Especially after whatever the fuck those finals were,”
“Ah you’ll do fine, Mr.Straight-As!” Korn waves dismissively, “You work yourself up into a frenzy and always end up with near-perfect scores. Besides, we’re on vacation, this is the time for rest and relaxation. And,” he props himself up on his elbows, “I’m due for some TLC, stat,”
“Is that so?” Wai asks amusement coloring his tone. He pushes off the frame and walks towards the bed, “How about we start by making use of the luxury bathtub in the bathroom? I’ll massage your head,”
“I’d love to but I don’t really wanna get up,” Korn groans, flopping back onto the mattress, “It’s so comfortable!” he whines.
Wai hums, “I could carry you,”
Korn eyes him suspiciously, “Baby, I hate to break it to you but I’m not exactly light,”
Wai smirks, “I know,” and with that he puts a knee on the bed and leans down. Korn barely has time to react before Wai is scooping him into his arms and is easily carrying him into the bathroom.
“What the fuck!” Korn yelps, hands scrambling for purchase around Wai’s shoulders, “Since when the fuck can you carry me,”
Wai sets him down on the counter and boops him on the nose, “Since forever,” he replies and turns to turn on the taps. He pours in some bubble bath soap the hotel had very generously left them and wastes no time in pulling off Korn’s clothes and picking him up again with the same ease and settling him into the rapidly filling tub.
Korn is still in too much shock to do much but let Wai manhandle him and it isn’t until his boyfriend settles in behind him, soapy sponge in hand and gently starts scrubbing at his back.
“I’m going to take full advantage of this newly discovered talent, I hope you know that,” Korn says, matter of fact.
Wai presses a kiss the shell of his ear, “I look forward to it,”
