Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

After the Gloom and Bloom Dance…

Lagoona and Gil were sitting at one of the tables, chatting and taking a break from dancing. Lorna McNessie came up to talk to them.
“So sorry to interuppt, could I borrow Lagoona tae talk for a second?”
“Oh, yeah, go ahead,” said Gil.
Lagoona and Lorna walked to the other side of the dance.
“Lagoona, I just wanted tae say how truly sorry I am. Gil asked me tae to dance since… my boyfriend Finn broke up with me this mornin’. Gil was just trying to cheer me up. I didna even think about how going with Gil woulda made you feel.”
“It’s okay, Lorna. Gil explained everything to me. I’m sorry I made such a big scene. I should’ve been able to trust you and Gil.”
“Thank ya, Lagoona. An I just want to say that I would never ever want to get in the way of you and Gil, you two are such a cute couple. I wish I could have something like that. No hard feelin’s?”
“No hard feelings,” said Lagoona, as she pulled in Lorna for a hug.
“You really are the sweetest monster at Monster High,” said Lorna. “Gil is lucky to have a ghould like you.”
Gil watched Lagoona and Lorna hug, and sighed in relief. He had Lagoona back, and everything was getting back to normal.
-
Three Weeks Later

Back at Monster High, things were getting back to as normal as they could be. But something was biting at Gil.
He really did like Lorna.
There was something about Lorna that he couldn’t stop thinking about. He loved Lagoona of course, but what was it about Lorna that kept his attention? Her different accent, her love of photobombing, the way she dressed? Or was it… that she was freshwater?
But this didn’t make any sense. Gil loved Lagoona. He thought about all the amazing times they had, and all the things he liked about Lagoona. He didn’t want her to change at all. He didn’t care that she was a saltwater ghoul. …Right?
-
Lagoona and Lorna were becoming fast friends, and Lagoona even convinced Lorna to join the swim team. They were at a swim meet, and it was Lagoona’s turn in the water. She won the race, and the crowd and the fear squad cheered for Lagoona. Gil had already had his turn and was clapping in the stands with the other monsters.
“How was that, Gil?” shouted Lagoona.
“That was great!” He answered, with a thumbs up.
Next was Lorna’s turn. She won her race too, and again everyone cheered for her.
Gil stood up and was cheering the loudest.
“Let’s go Lorna! That was amazing!”
“Oh well thanks Gil,” said Lorna as she got out of the water. “But I can’t even get close tae Lagoona’s time.” She turned to Lagoona. “You’re incredible Lagoona, wish I could even begin tae swim like that!”
Meanwhile, between races, the fear squad was chatting about the swim team.
“Hey, did anyone notice Gil’s reaction to the races?” Asked Clawdeen.
“I heard him cheering for his team,” said Draculaura. “sounds like a team player!”
“I dunno,” said Clawdeen, “He seemed to cheer way more for Lorna than for his owl ghoulfriend.”
“You know,” said Cleo, “I have noticed Gil eyeing Lorna in the halls. You don’t really think he cheated with Lorna at the dance do you?”
“No way!” said Frankie. “Gil or Lorna would never do that.”
“I hope you’re right Frankie,” said Clawdeen. “There’s just something about them that rubs my fur the wrong way.”
It wasn’t just this swim meet either. As Lagoona and Lorna become better friends, Gil hung out with Lorna more too.
One day at lunch, Lorna was sitting by herself, picking at her food. Twyla appeared from the shadows.
“Hey Lorna.”
“Twyla! I practically jumped outta ma scales!”
“Sorry, I do that a lot.”
Howleen and Mari joined the table.
“What’s the matter Lorna?” asked Mari.
“Yeah,” said Howleen, “how come you’re not sitting with Lagoona and Gil?”
“I don’tog know. It’s… hard to explain.”
“Wait, you don’t actually have a crush on Gil, do you?” asked Howleen.
“No, no, no!” yelled Lorna. “Not even a little bit. He’s with Lagoona. And be‘sides, Gil’s not ma type.”
“Well what is your type?” asked Twyla.
“I guess I’ve always had a thing for saltwater monsters. But I don’t mind one from the land too,” answered Lorna.
“Well if it’s not that, what’s on your mind chica?” asked Mari.
“That’s just it,” said Lorna. “I don’t like Gil, but I think Gil likes me.”
“What?!” all 3 said in unison.
“But Gil is all over Lagoona,” said Howleen. “They’re one of Monster High’s top couples.”
“I thought so too, but Gil has been payin’ so much attention to me lately. I thought we were just really good friends, but now I’m not so sure.”
“What makes you think so?” asked Twyla.
“He’s brought me flowers and chocolates, and he’s been trying to fang out with me more often when Lagoona isn’t around. Makes we a wee bit uncomfy is all.”
“Should we tell Lagoona?” asked Howleen.
“No!” said Lorna. “I already almost broke the two of them up. And I really like Lagoona, I don’t want tae end up on her bad side.”
“But shouldn’t Lagoona know the truth? Or at least what you think is the truth.” said Twyla.
“I just don’t want tae loose Lagoona as a friend. And they seem happy t’gether.”
The friends wondered about what was going to happen next. Was it really true that Gil had a crush on Lorna?

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Chapter Text

A week later, Lorna’s friends, including the fear squad, all found out about her suspicions. The only ones that didn’t know were Lagoona and Gil. The ghould decided to report Spectra to watch Gil and see what she could find out. As Spectra watched Gil throughout the week, she noticed him becoming more distant with Lagoona. Lagoona could tell something was wrong, but couldn’t put her finger on it. She knew she had to trust Gil, but deep down, she knew there was something going on.
As Spectra kept taps on them, eventually she saw Gil writing in one of his school notebooks more often than before. She wasn’t too comfy spying, but she knew she had to do right by her sea monster ghoulfriends. When Gil left his locker, Spectra took a tiny peek inside. To Spectra’s relief, she found love notes addressed to Lagoona inside the notebook. But as she flipped it’s pages, to her shock and horror she found a list. A pro and cons list- for both Lagoona and Lorna. He was comparing the two ghouls and trying to figure out who he liked better! As Spectra read, she turned the pages to find love notes for Lorna too! Spectra snapped pictures of the notebook and brought them back to the fear squad.
“I can’t believe he would do this!” said Spectra. “How dare he hurt Lagoona this way.”
“Yeah, what is wrong with him?!” said Clawdeen. “If Lagoona didn’t still love him I’d claw his face off.”
“I can’t believe it either!” said Cleo. “I’m going to ask Deuce if Gil has said anything about this too him. We’re going to get to the bottom of this.”
“I’ll ask Clawd too,” said Draculaura. “There’s no way he could do that to her.”
“I would’ve never expected it,” said Frankie.
“Remember how he always was about salt water monsters?” asked Clawdeen. “Like at skull shores? What if-“
“No way, he wouldn’t turn into his parents just by seeing a freshwater ghoul!” said Draculaura. “…Right?”
Cleo and Draculaura went to go talk to their boyfriends. Both agreed- Gil hadn’t said anything like that about Lorna to them. But they both made it clear, they would clobber Gil for hurting Lagoona.
Spectra didn’t share her findings with Lorna just yet- but she had no idea that she would be too late.
-
That day, Lorna was hanging out by the fountain. Gil stopped by to talk.
“Hey Lorna, can I talk to you for a sec?”
“Sure Gil, what’s up?” Lorna asked hesitantly.
“W-Well, I just wanted to say, I think you’re a really cool ghoul. And, I think I would like to get to know you a little better.”
“What do ya mean, Gil?” asked Lorna.
Before Lorna could say anything more, Gil removed his helmet- and tried to kiss Lorna!
Lorna got up and shoved him into the fountain.
“What the hell do ya think you’re doin’?! You have a ghoulfriend! How dare you do this tae Lagoona! I can’t believe you!”
Lorna ran off in a huff, while Gil recollected himself and put his helmet back on. That didn’t go how he expected at all.
-
Lorna could not believe what just happened. Gil was always a cowardly monster. How did he think that this would be a good idea? And that Lorna would go along with it. She was upset, uncomfortable, and pissed. She and Gil had hurt Lagoona once already, and Lorna has regretted it ever sense. She couldn’t bear to hurt Lagoona again. Especially not her. Lagoona was kind, beautiful, and forgiving. The best ghoulfriend anyone could ask for. Lorna knew she wanted to be friends with Lagoona forever- or maybe something more. But Lorna was not going to break up anyone else’s relationship. What waa she going to tell Lagoona?
-
Spectra and the fear squad were looking for Lorna, when they found her behind the school, curled up into a ball crying.
“Lorna! What’s wrong?” asked Frankie.
“What happened?!” asked Draculaura.
Lorna caught her breath enough, and through sobs told the ghouls what Gil did. Spectra told Lorna all about the notebook. Lorna was disgusted. How could she have been such good friends with Gil? All the ghouls could not believe what was happening. And they all realized at once what was going to happen next.
They had to tell Lagoona.
