“Stay away from the Crowders,” he’d been told. And he’d tried, he really had! It might seem unbelievable considering he was on his bed, naked, underneath two of them.
But it wasn’t his fault. They’d been there when he returned. They’d gotten tired of waiting, they said, and started without him. They hoped he didn’t mind. (He didn’t.) Ava had reached out first, one slender hand around his forearm. Boyd plucked his badge from his belt. Raylan let them. He would always let them.
“Stay away from the Crowders!” he’d been told. Didn’t they know he could never do that?
