Chapter 1: The Same Yet Different

Summary:

Emu meets the other Emu

Notes:

AU Emu has long black hair because her parents are more strict, like Mafuyu's. Emu has black hair because she dyed it and she never cut her hair since she spent all her time studying.

Just think of Emu, but her behavior is a lot like Mafuyu, except she doesn't hide her real personality, so a lot of people don't approach her or treat her like a human being.

That includes Shosuke :( I love the guy but he's kind of a jerk in the AU

Oh, and also, the story is in AU Emu's POV, so that's why there are "Pink Haired Emu," "Quiet Nene," "Loud Tsukasa," and "Freaky Rui" as their titles.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Emu, are you okay?" Emu heard Tsukasa's quiet voice murmur.

"Hmm?" Emu forced her eyes open and got blinded by the bright light. "Eugh. It's too bright," She brushed her long black hair away from her face. "Where are we?"

Tsukasa stretched his hand to her and Emu grabbed it, pulling herself up. "I think we're in a theme park..." Tsukasa murmured. "Kind of like the one your parents own...But more...bright..."

Emu winced at the mention of her parents. "Don't mention them." she said quietly, clinging to Tsukasa's arm. "Sorry," Tsukasa murmured, looking around. "Do you think Rui and Nene are here?"

"They went with us to SEKAI, so I think so..." Emu followed his gaze. "Oh look, there they are.:" Tsukasa looked over to where Emu was looking. "Oh yeah," he said. His face scrunched up a little. "What are they wearing?"

"Ah, Tsuakasa-kun!" Nene said, running over. "Oya oya, Tsukasa-kun," Rui said, following Nene. "Did you hate my idea that much?"

"Eh?" Tsukasa looked confused. "What idea?" Nene froze, her eyes wide. "Am I dreaming or is Tsukasa's voice actually quiet?" She asked Rui. Rui let out a long hum, scratching his chin. "Tsukasa-kun," he said at last. "Who's that next to you?"

"Ah, this is Emu," Tsukasa said, patting Emu's head. Nene and Rui exchanged looks. "How very curious," Rui closed his eyes. "Tsukasa-kun, did you forget that Emu has pink hair?"

"Pink hair...?" Tsukasa looked bewildered. Emu scrunched up her face. She didn't want to remember those memories. "My hair's black," she said in her naturally toneless voice. Nene looked shocked again.

"Tsukasa-kun!" a voice was shouting. "Nene-chan?" Emu looked behind her and stumbled towards the girl with olive green-colored hair. "Emu!" Nene slowed down. "You okay?" She looked up, and her eyes met the other Nene's eyes.

"What the..." The quiet Nene murmured, trailing off. "Nene!" Rui called, running over. He stopped. "Ah, Emu, Tsukasa, you two are also here." "Fufufu," The other Rui chuckled. "This is most interesting..."

Emu shivered a bit. "I'm not sure if I like this..." she said quietly, leaning back into Tsukasa. Tsukasa looked down at her to make sure she was okay and then looked back up.

"Do you know where we are?" he asked Rui. "Pheonix Wonderland," The Rui in the colorful clothes said. "It's where me, Nene, Tsukasa and Emu work..." He looked at them. "It appears you come from an alternative universe. There isn't a ton of change based on looks with you three..."

His gaze went to Emu. "Emu, however..." he said. "Looks very different. You see, our Emu is the same height as her but with short, pink hair that's a little messy," Rui chuckled to himself. "Tsukasa-kun would always complain about it."

Tsukasa looked puzzled. "Why didn't he just brush it?" he asked. "Emu refuses," The freaky Rui looked wistful. "The two spent the entire practice chasing each other,"

"But anyways, how did you get here?" the quiet Nene interrupted. "Ah..." Nene hummed a bit. "I don't really remember. There was just a bright light,"

"Hmmm," The freaky Rui closed his eyes again. "OIIIIIIII RUIIIIIIIIIIIIII!" a loud voice shouted. Emu shrank back a little bit. It was unbearably loud. "Oya!" The freaky Rui turned around. "Tsukasa-kun, look! I found the most curious thing!"

Tsukasa stopped and huffed. A girl with short pink hair ran after him. "I found some alternate-universe versions of us!" Rui smiled, pointing at the four of them. "Come and meet them!"

"Ah," Tsukasa stood up. "I see three of us, but where's Emu?" "Here," The other Tsukasa said, giving the Emu with black hair a little pat on the head. "Eh?" Tsukasa stared. "EHHHHH?! THAT'S EMU?! THAT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE HER!"

"Shut up." Emu stated. "You're too loud." Tsukasa looked stunned and offended. "I think me and this Emu will get along pretty well," The quiet Nene said. "Nice to meet you!" the pink-haired Emu grasped Emu's hands. "I'm Otori Emu!"

"I'm Emu too." Emu said quietly, pulling her hands away and shrinking back into Tsukasa. "Nice to meet you."

"EEP!" The pink-haired Emu squealed. "U-Uh yeah!" She scrambled behind her Tsukasa. Emu returned her attention to nothing. She always did that when she zoned out on other people. It was her way of calming down. It felt nice.

It was like closing your eyes, but without people assuming that you were asleep. Honestly, Emu wanted to fall asleep, to ignore everyone else. But she wasn't sure if she could. It was so very loud.

"Do you think you can remember how you got here?" The quiet Nene asked. "Ah, oh! I think I remember. We went through our phone," Nene murmured. "The four were listening to a song, and we randomly got teleported here."

'Good excuse Nene,' Emu could almost hear Tsukasa think. She looked around at her surroundings. They were in a large theme park, with colorful colors lining the area. Stands with different colored popcorns were scattered around, including a weird stand titled, "Soda Popcorn" with blue popcorn.

It was so much like her grandpa's theme park before it got changed.

Was this a world where the pink Emu saved her grandpa's park?

'What a nice world that would be,' Emu thought, staring at the smiling children. 'It seems so much better. It's too loud though,' She stopped, and let out a little breath of air. 'Or my tastes have just been changed,'

"Do you know how to get out?" Tsukasa asked. "Hmm..." The freaky Rui and loud Tsukasa hummed at the same time. "Maybe if they find their phones, and stop playing the song, they could get out?" The quiet Nene suggested.

"HAHA! GENIUS NENE!" The loud Tsukasa shouted, causing Emu to wince again.

"So loud!" Nene exclaimed before Rui clamped his hand over her mouth.

"Now, Nene, let's not be rude," Rui reasoned. "Apologies about that," he sheepishly turned to the group of performers. "Ah, Rui's different too," The quiet Nene said. "Hmm," The loud Tsukasa had this mischievous look on his face. "I think I like this Rui better,"

"Oya, how rude Tsukasa!" the freaky Rui whined. "Woe is me! What did I ever do for you to shun me like that? Oh, sadness is upon us!" "Geez Rui, you're so dramatic," The quiet Nene answered.

"But Rui-kun is right! Nobody could replace him!" The pink-haired Emu exclaimed.

The freaky Rui chuckled. "Thank you, Emu-kun," he said. Then he turned to Nene and Tsukasa. "See? Emu-kun gets it!" He made a fake sniffling sound.

Nene giggled. "The four of you are certainly interesting," she said, a small smile on her face. "A-Ah, thank you," The quiet Nene said, her face turning a little red at the proclamation.

"What are you four like?" Pink-Haired Emu asked. "Hmm..." Tsukasa closed his eyes and then there was a smile on his face. "It's kind of hard to describe,"

"Rui and Emu are insane," Nene huffed. "Ehh? What did I do?!" Rui looked at her. "You're always obsessed with weird stuff like platypus' or gardening," Nene complained.

"But they're so cool!" Rui argued. "Agreed," The freaky Rui replied. "Platypus' are superior," "FINALLY someone says that!" Rui agreed, and the two started energetically talking about random things.

"Those two sure get along well," Tsukasa hummed. "I worry for my safety," The loud Tsukasa let out a tired sigh.

"Hm..." Emu looked at the two. It had been a while since Rui was that deep in conversation. And then, before she knew it, a tiny smile emerged on her face. "Rui looks so happy," she said quietly to Tsukasa.

Tsukasa looked at her and then Rui. "Agreed," he said. "Anyways," he turned to the loud Tsukasa. "Where are we supposed to stay?

Notes:

AU Emu feels a strong attachment to AU Tsukasa since he helped her pull out of a lot of rough times for her. She's really comfortable around him :)

Kind of like Mafuyu and Kanade after Mafuyu opens up and fully trusts her group.
