Chapter Text

Karasuno, Nekoma, Aoba Johsai, Fukurodani, Shiratorizawa, Inarizaki and Date Tech were at training camp and made a deal that which ever team loses their setter has to do a punishment. So it turns out none of the teams actually won the bet so they were all gathered by the gym facing the woods with the setters except Suga, Semi and Yahaba; standing in a line.

“So the punishment is simple, run to the marked tree and back, it’s pretty obvious where it is so you won’t get lost”, Daichi explained.

“I’m not losing to you”, Kageyama said boldly to Oikawa.

“Neither am I pretty boy”, Oikawa replied.

“It’s not a race”, Daichi called from hearing what Oikawa and Kageyama were saying.

“So ready…go”, Suga shouted as the setters took off running while the other players watch them. As the setters ran; Oikawa and Kageyama were up against each other with the others behind.

“Is it just me or does Kageyama turns everything into a competition”, Kenma deadpanned.

“I think it’s whoever Kageyama has a rivalry with”, Akaashi snorted. As the group continue to run through the woods the marked tree came into view.

“That tree is mine”, Kageyama shouted and picked up speed.

“Oh hell no”, Oikawa groaned and also picked up speed. As the 2 setters ran Kageyama touched the tree first and he punched the air in celebration.

“Yes I won”, Kageyama cheered; Oikawa was in a rage.

“In your dreams you cheater”, Oikawa yelled and started throwing punches at Kageyama which he retaliated.

“Hey pack it in or we telling the others when we get back”, Shirabu warned, Kageyama and Oikawa stopped in their tracks and looked at the others who were watching them with annoyed expressions on their faces.

“Fine, we sorry for fighting”, Kageyama and Oikawa apologised while sulking.

“Well anyway we arrived at the tree so let’s head back”, Kogane piped up, everyone nodded and started running back to the school. Half n hour later the setters still haven’t got back to the school; unfortunately they don’t know they round this area so it was hard for them to get their bearings. The group had stopped to catch their breath after running for so long.

“Are you…sure we…heading the right…way?”, Atsumu asks the group.

“How should we…know, we…only been…here twice, once in the…summer and again here”, Kageyama replied.

“Well once we get our breath back we find the path that goes back the school, we know the path when we see it”, Akaashi said, so the group continued walking to find the path back to the school. However they end up going away from the school without realising.

~~~~~~~~~
Daichi had noticed the setters hasn’t come back, what would of taken them about 15 minutes turned into about 2 hours. Suga was outside talking to Yaku and Iwaziumi about team mum things and other stuff; waiting for the setters when Daichi came out.
“Has the boys come back?”, Daichi asks, they shook their heads.
“We were just talking about that, we haven’t seen them”, Yaku replied.
“They taken about 2 hours to do this”, Daichi told them.
“Maybe they taken a longer route to get back”, Yaku suggested and Daichi shrugged. By dinner; the boys still haven’t come back. Yaku and Suga were eating their dinner in the doorway of the gym.
“I’m starting to get pretty worried about them, it’s getting dark and they still haven’t come back”, Suga said with worry in his voice.
“I hope they ok, I heard your coach is gonna call the police tomorrow morning if they don’t come back”, Yaku explained.
“I hope that doesn’t happen”, Suga whined.
“Yeah me too” Yaku replied. As the 2 team mums finished their food they went back inside the cafeteria to drop their dirty plates off when they noticed people were trying to get Bokuto to eat.
“What’s up?”, Suga asks while walking over after him and Yaku put their dirty plates away.
“Bokuto isn’t eating because he’s worried about Akaashi not coming back”, Konoha said, Suga grabbed a chair and sat down next to Bokuto.
“Akaashi would want you to eat some food”, Suga said sympathetically. “Would you like everyone to leave and I’ll stay here with you?”, Suga asks; Bokuto nodded and began eating while everyone left. After Bokuto cleared his tray of food, Suga took the dirty plates and put them away to be washed as Bokuto left. On the way out Suga got stopped by Washio and Konoha who were watching the entire time.
“Hey Suga”, Konoha called, Suga stopped and looked at them.
“Thank you very much for that”, Washio thanked Suga.
“No no it’s fine, more than happy to help”, Suga responded with a smile.
“Just us, we more likely never get him to eat”, Konoha laughed a little, the 3 said their good nights as they went upstairs to their respective rooms. Suga lied down on his futon hoping that Kageyama and the others were ok.
~~~~~~~~~~

As the sun begins to set; the setters were long from home, the setters were sitting against some trees to rest their tied legs.

“We’ve been walking for the rest of the afternoon with no luck, plus the sun is starting to set”, Kogane complained, the group exchanged looks at each other.

“Do you think we’re lost?”, Kageyama asks, Kenma suddenly felt nervous at Kageyama’s question and swallowed thickly.

“We lost?, no we can’t be lost, I don’t wanna be lost-“, Kenma shrieked, Shirabu got in front of Kenma and gripped his shoulders.

“Calm down we not lost”, Semi cuts him off as he reassured Kenma.

“Well no one has their phones for contact and even if we did, we more likely not to have service”, Akaashi explained.

“Good point”, Shirabui replied

“I’m hungry”, Oikawa whined.

“I remembered”, Kogane spoke up, everyone turned their heads to him. “I got 3 protein bars that I accidentally left them in my pocket of my track pants”, Kogane continued while showing the bars to the group.

“Thanks Kogane, I’ll split them and head them out, unfortunately everyone gets 1 piece”, Shirabu said as he took the bars off Kogane. Shirabu counted how many people were here and divided 2 of the 3 bars into pieces, then gave it to everyone. Though it helped, it wasn’t enough to satisfy all of them.

“Do you think we should carry on?”, Atsumu asks Shirabu i, Shirabu thought for a second on what to do.

“We stay here for the night and continue tomorrow morning as none of us have our phones for a light”, Shirabu replied. As night fell; the setters tried to get some sleep but the chilly air of October as well as the potential danger of animals made it difficult to do that. Oikawa and Kageyama snuggled together to try and keep warm, Akaashi and Kenma also snuggled up together, Shirabu was in the middle of Kogane and Atsumu as they tried to keep warm. Shirabu remained awake while the others tried to get some sleep, Atsumu agreed to swap half way through the night to keep an eye out for any potential danger. They all tried (except for Shirabu) to get at least some sleep and continue walking tomorrow.

Summary:

Day 2, police called and 2 people have gone down

Sorry it’s short I couldn’t think of anything

Chapter Text

Kageyama managed to fall asleep last night as he woke up to the morning sun; birds chirping and him cuddled up to Oikawa, he got out of Oikawa’s arms and stretched, he stood up and looked round. Akaashi was awake with Shirabu; planning on which way to go. Kogane was just waking up along with Kenma; Oikawa and Atsumu.

“Morning”, Shirabu greeted the others.

“Hey”, Oikawa yawned and stretched.

“Do you which way we going?”, Kageyama asks.

“Yeah we gonna try and head this way”, Shirabu said while pointing in the direction. Once everyone was up and ready the group started moving in hopes of getting back to Shinzen. About 5 hours into their walk as the sun was high in the sky, the group started to get hungry; and thirsty.

“I’m hungry”, Kogane whined as his stomach grumbled for about the 100th time.

“We can have the rest of the bars but I’ll have to break it down even smaller”, Shirabu replied, Akaashi sighed before looking over at Shirabu.

“Guess we got no other option”, Akaashi complained, so Shirabu cut the remaining bar and a bit into smaller pieces. Everyone took one and ate it, although it did help it didn’t solve the hunger issue.

“Also can we stop, my knee is starting to give way”, Oikawa whined while holding his right knee.

“Ok let’s all take a rest”, Shirabu agreed as everyone nearly collapsed to the grass in exhaustion.

“How far do you think we are from the school”, Atsumu asks Shirabu.

“I don’t know but I hope it’s not that far”, Shirabu shrugged before looking into the distance.

~~~~~~~~~~
Suga woke up much earlier than usual maybe due to worry over Kageyama, Suga looked over at Kageyama’s futon and realised it was occupied by Hinata. Hinata had slept in Kageyama’s futon just so he could be close to Kageyama. The action made Suga smile but also felt sad that Kageyama still hasn’t come home.
After breakfast the announcement came that the police had been called and they were on their way to Shinzen. All teams were waiting in their rooms with their coaches (besides coach Ukai who was waiting with Shinzen’s principal), once the police arrived; the police came round and interviewed everyone. Then came for Karasuno, a police officer knocked on the door and walked in. He was slightly tall; probably the same height as Daichi with black hair under his cap and little moustache hair.
“Good morning”, he bowed. “My name is Sasaki Daku and as you know I’m here to talk about the missing players, now your setter is Kageyama Tobio correct?”, Sasaki explained before asking.
“That’s correct”, Daichi nodded.
“Was it anyone’s idea?”, Sasaki asks.
“It was a training exercise between the middle blockers and the setters”, Daichi explained. “Whichever team loses the set has to do a punishment”, Suga added on, Sasaki took notes as Daichi and Suga explained.
“So here’s the plan, us police and mountain rescue will look for the boys during your time here, if we find them we let the school know, if we haven’t found by the time guys go home we will let you know as soon as we find them”, Sasaki reassured, the crows nodded at plan. So police; police dogs and mountain rescue went out and began searching for the missing setters.
~~~~~~~~~~

The setters had started walking again once they rested their feet, none of them still knew where they were going and probably just waking aimlessly to find the school. They came across part of the path with big stones and boulders that you had to step up or down depending on which way you’re going.

“Be careful guys we head down Akaashi warned the group as he helped Kenma down.

“Yeah agree these rocks don’t look safe”, Atsumu agreed. As the guys carefully made their way down the steep path Oikawa slipped and sprained his bad knee. Oikawa groaned in pain as he kinda fell against the boulder on his ass.

“What happened?”, Shirabu shouted from the front.

“Oikawa is injured”, Kageyama shouted back, Shirabu cursed them scrambled up the rocks to Kageyama and Oikawa.

“You ok?”, Shirabu asks.

“N-no not really”, Oikawa stuttered.

“It’s starting to look swollen”, Shirabu explained while looking at Oikawa’s knee.

“Anything we can do?”, Kogane piped up.

“We will need to make a splint out of vines and sticks”, Shirabu informed.

“We go and find some”, Atsumu offered, Shirabu nodded.

“Let me come with you”, Akaashi said as he followed Atsumu off into the trees, Kogane also went. A few minutes later Atsumu; Kogane and Akaashi came back with 2 long; practically straight sticks and lots of vines. Shirabu straighten Oikawa’s knee, he put the 2 sticks either side with Akaashi and Atsumu holding them as Shirabu wrapped the vines round it and tied them together, Oikawa groaned loudly in pain as they fixed the leg. Kageyama rubbed Oikawa’s back in sympathy as Shirabu do the final touches.

“All done”, Shirabu let go and stood up, Oikawa nodded as the pain began to die down. Meanwhile all this time Kenma kept quiet as he didn’t felt well, he left a little hot and his body kinda felt like shit.

“Hey are you ok”, Kogane asks Kenma, Kenma gave a little cough before nodding.

“Hey Kozume isn’t very well”, Kogane announced, Akaashi cursed under his breath as Shirabu went over to Kenma.

“What’s wrong?”, Shirabu asks.

“Well”, cough. “I got a bit of a cough, I feel a little hot, I feel tired and my body kinda feels like crap”, Kenma explained then coughing.

“Your look hot and pale”, Shirabu said. “I hope he isn’t coming down with something”, Shirabu thought in his head. “Well Akaashi, could you look after Kozume, Kogane And Kageyama can you look after Oikawa?”, Shirabu requested.

“Sure”, Kageyama nodded.

“Yeah sure”, Akaashi nodded.

“Yes sir”, Kogane saluted.

So the guys got up and going again; slowly down the rocky path before they got to a smooth path. As they continued walking they came across a stream that bender and ran along the path.

“Hey there’s a stream”, Kogane pointed out.

“Yeah we could probably try to cool Kenma down”, Shirabu suggested. The group found a little stony beach along the stream and they got down. Akaashi took Kenma off his shoulders with the help of Shirabu and Atsumu, they gently lowered Kenma to the floor and Shirabu dipped his hand into the cool water and put his hand on Kenma’s forehead. It felt nice on his skin for Kenma as Shirabu poured water on him. Once Kenma was feeling a little better; Akaashi out Kenma back on his back, he could feel Kenma’s ragged; laboured breaths on his neck. Kageyama and Kogane helped Oikawa up and they group began walking again. Not far into their walk; Kogane started complaining again.

“Man this sucks, I just want to find the school and go home”, Kogane groaned.

“Yeah blame this guy”, Atsumu muttered; pointing to Oikawa behind him with his thumb.

“M-me?”, Oikawa blinked. “What did I do to you?”, Oikawa questioned.

“That you made us lose”, Atsumu shouted while turning around and getting himself in Oikawa’s face.

“Hey why are you taking it out on me? It wasn’t my fault we lost”, Oikawa shouted back.

“You did liar”, Atsumu shouted.

“You leave him alone”, Kageyama chipped in.

“The both of you cut it”, Shirabu shouted from the front, Atsumu huffed and left Oikawa alone. Once that had calmed down the group continued walking. Later the sun was starting so set, the guys had no food so it was a night of no food. Kenma was the same as yesterday and Oikawa’s knee was hurting pretty bad.

“Tomorrow we hopefully get home so try to get some sleep”, Akaashi said puKageyama laid down next to Oikawa, Kogane and Atsumu laid down next to each other, Shirabu and Akaashi laid down with Kenma in the middle.

“I hope we get back home”, Kogane said; breaking the silence.

“Me too”, Kageyama replied.

“I bet everyone is worried about us”, Shirabu smiled.

“I bet Bokuto will be crying his heart since I gone”, Akaashi chuckled.

“Iwa would kill me for going off”, Oikawa smirked.

“Well let’s get some sleep”, Akaashi said as he closed his eyes and cuddled up to Kenma to keep him warm even though he felt hot. Everyone cuddled up to each other to try and get some warmth as they fell into a restless sleep.

Lunch had past back at the school and chaos had broken loose. Kuroo; Konoha, Yukie and Saru were trying to calm Bokuto down after he started balling his eyes out. Suga was also in tears while being comforted by Yaku; Moniwa; Semi and Daichi. Hinata wasn’t crying but was feeling kinda depressed and was being supported by Ennoshita. Osamu was being comforted by Kita and Aran. Iwaizumi was being comforted by Makki and Matsu. Kindaichi and Kunimi were worried about Kageyama, The coaches was busy with police. Eventually Bokuto and Suga calmed down and managed to spend some time playing Uno with some of the players.

“I’m sure they come back”, Yamaguchi said tryna lighten the spirits.

“I just wanna know they ok”, Suga said quietly.

“Oikawa missing like this made me realise how much I like him being around”, Iwaziumi smiled.

“Same”, came from Makki who was sitting in the corner with Matsu.

“I always fought against my brother but I love him and i want him back”, Osamu said sadly; wiping a tear from his eyes, the others gave him sympathetic looks as they tried to focus on their game.

Back outside; the sun was starting so set, the guys had no food so it was another night of no food. The boys already started to look skinny and frail, Kenma was the same as yesterday and Oikawa’s knee was hurting pretty bad.

“Tomorrow we hopefully get home so try to get some sleep”, Akaashi said puKageyama laid down next to Oikawa, Kogane and Atsumu laid down next to each other, Shirabu and Akaashi laid down with Kenma in the middle.

Chapter 4

Summary:

Kageyama is injured and they get chased by a bear

Notes:

Sorry for this long time but it’s finally done, yay and sorry for leaving u on a cliffhanger

Chapter Text

In the early hours of the morning of day 4, Yaku was woken by sniffles and whimpers. Half asleep he took a second to gather what’s going on, once he came around he tried to figure out where the noise was coming from.

“Are you ok?”, Yaku asked to the person crying. No response other than the whimpers and sniffles, Yaku got out of his futon and slowly moved around being careful not to trip over his own teammates. As Yaku got closer to the sniffles he realised it was Kuroo.

“Hey Kuroo”, Yaku began while coming to Kuroo’s side, Kuroo kept crying as he clung to Kenma’s pillow. “Would you like to step outside?”, Yaku asked, Yaku heard shuffling as Kuroo got out of his futon. Yaku took Kuroo’s hand as they left their room. There wasn’t much light since it was just before sunrise as the 2 stood in the hallway.

“What’s up?”, Yaku asks softly.

“I miss Kenma”, Kuroo weeped, Yaku hugged Kuroo.

“We will get him back I promise”, Yaku said; not breaking the hug, they remained like that until Kuroo was feeling a little better.

“I’m scared he’s not ok”, Kuroo said.

“I understand”, Yaku replied.

“Yeah but he could be injured or in these temperatures, sick”, Kuroo said while he wiped the tears from his eyes.

“The police will find him and we can do what we can in the morning, let’s head back to bed and tried to get some sleep”, Yaku suggested, Kuroo nodded his head as he stood up, Yaku took Kuroo’s hand and led him into Nekoma’s bedroom. Kuroo got back into his futon, Yaku grabbed his pillow and climbed into Kenma’s futon; laying next to Kuroo.

“Thanks for your help”, Kuroo whispered.

“No problem”, Yaku whispered back.

Back outside, Akaashi was the first awake. He sat up and stretched while yawning. Akaashi looked over at Kenma who was sleeping, he hadn’t gotten worse or yet better as he let soft ragged breaths. Akaashi let a sad smile as he brushed his hand through Kenma’s messy and dirty hair. Oikawa had also just woke up; got out from Kageyama’s grip and sat up.

“Are you ok?”, Akaashi asks.

“Yeah just my knee hurts”, Oikawa replied.

“Shame we done as much as we can with your leg”, Akaashi sighed, Oikawa nodded. As the morning sun began to rise higher into the sky the other people began to stir, Shirabu was the first to wake; followed by kageyama and Atsumu then finally Kogane.

“Right hopefully today we able to find our way back”, Shirabu sighed.

“Same because I’m so done”, Kogane groaned.

“Agree, we got a sick person and an injured guy, both Oikawa and Kenma need a doctor”, Kageyama nodded.

“We let’s not waste time”, Akaashi said as he picked up now awake Kenma and put Kenma on his back. Kageyama lift Oikawa on his back and the group began making their way home. Later as the sun was up in the sky, the setters dragged the tired feet across the rough terrain of paths, they actually weren’t that far from home they just need to go in the right direction. Oikawa was being carried by Atsumu to give Kageyama a break and Kenma was on Shirabu’s back.

“Can we stop?”, Kogane whined. “My feet are tired”.

“We can stop in a bit”, Akaashi replied, Kogane groaned at Akaashi’s response.

“We should stop”, Shirabu suggested.

“It still morning, we can rest when the sun is on top of us”, Akaashi said.

“The guys are getting weary”, Shirabu protested; pointing to the non injured guys who had started to drag the feet, Akaashi sighed.

“Alright we stop,” Akaashi said in defeat.

“Guys shhh”, Kageyama said unexpectedly, everyone went quiet as they looked at Kageyama with confusion. “You hear that?”, he asks the group.

“Sounds like water running, in that direction”, Kageyama pointed in the direction of the sound. The guys started walking quickly to the sound and arrived at the stream from earlier.

“Looks like the same stream we came across the other day, let’s rest here and we can get a drink”, Akaashi said, Kogane helped Oikawa off Atsumu’s back and Shirabu gently laid Kenma on the dirty and leafy ground. Kageyama practically collapsed next to Oikawa, letting out a big sigh.

“I feel like we never get home”, Kageyama whined, though Oikawa never said anything he glanced at Kageyama for a moment and agreed with his statement. Kogane and Atsumu sat on a log next to them.

“Yeah, however both you and Kenma need a doctor”, Atsumu said to Oikawa then looking over at Kenma. The guys managed to have a drink and rest their feet, Kenma managed to drink with assistance from Shirabu and Akaashi.

“What do you guys want to do when you’re older”, Kageyama asks; trying to make some small talk to keep everyone spirits up.

“Go pro”, Oikawa replied.

“Same here”, Kogane chimed in.

“Me too”, said Atsumu.

“I wanna go pro too”, Kageyama responded.

“Hey Shirabu, what do you want to do when you’re older?”, Kageyama called out from where he lay on the hard ground.

“I want to be a doctor”, he replied, the guys nodded in amazement.

“Akaashi what do you want to do when you’re older?”, Atsumu asks.

“An editor for some manga publisher”, Akaashi answered gaining ooohs from the other setters.

“Kenma’s practically out of it so let’s not bother him”. Kogane said as he eyed Kenma up and down from where Kenma lay.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later
“We should get moving again, the sooner we move the sooner we can find home”, Shirabu announced, the guys got up from the hard floor with Oikawa getting on Kogane’s back and Kenma being carried by Akaashi. The boys started making the way with Shirabu leading the charge. As they continued their walk the setters heard some in the trees.
“What’s that?”, Kogane asked the other setters.
“It could be a deer”, Kageyama replied, and in that second a Asian black bear appeared. It looked around before locking eyes with the setters, the setters looked at bear in fear while Akaashi was looking somewhere for them to cover from the bear. Akaashi saw a large sturdy tree a few meters away with a super thick trunk; tough branches and the lower branches high enough to escape the bear.
“Guys follow me”, Akaashi shouted as he started running to the tree, the other boys turned and saw Akaashi running; they took off sprinting to the tree as the bear watched them before taking off.
“Akaashi, I lift you”, Shirabu said in panic, he hold out his hand for Akaashi when Akaashi put his foot and was lifted to the tree. He climbed on pulling Shirabu up. The other guys arrived at the tree, Kenma was lifted up to Shirabu, he watched with heavy eyelids as the drama continued in front him. Next was Atsumu as he was lifted into the tree, Oikawa was next and then Kogane, finally was Kageyama. As he was lifted into the tree by Kogane and Atsumu a large razor sharp branch was sticking out, the branch teared through his joggers and ripping his skin.
“Ahhhh…fuck”, Kageyama shrieked.
“Are you ok, what happened?”, Shirabu asks the group.
“I think Kageyama’s hurt”, Atsumu announced to the group.
“Oh shit”, Shirabu cursed out loud, he couldn’t do with another injury, Atsumu ripped the pant leg where the tear was to assess Kageyama’s leg. Blood had already spilled out of open wound; pouring down Kageyama’s leg.
“We really need to get back home”, Atsumu stated.
“How bad is it?”, Shirabu asked.
“Pretty bad”, Atsumu replied. All this time the bear was trying to break the tree and get the setters down, the setters cling onto the tree for dear life hoping the tree won’t fall down.
