Work Text:
When we got our alarm for another mission, I never would have guessed what would happen.
We were in our firetruck to Tabaki. The little village was hit by a flood, and we were called to help. Even though Hori was somewhat concerned for me, I still offered to help even though I wasn't actually a part of the group.
I felt someone sitting next to me and grabbing my hand, which was hidden from view, as the water rose and was almost reaching the handle of our truck. Looking at the person, it was my husband, Hori. We were secretly a pair and kept it a secret from anyone to prevent homophobic attacks. We exchanged little smiles before turning to the window next to us and watching as houses were destroyed and people helped each other.
"Poor people. I hope that they will be fine", I said.
Hori smiled softly at me, holding my hand softly as he slowly circled his thumb on my hand while reassuring me: "We will try our best."
I looked out the window. The water was already below our window. My mouth opened as I wanted to comment on it when suddenly the truck stopped and Hiromi, the driver, shouted that we were stuck. Our team discussed what we could do until we all agreed to get out and try helping other people without our truck. Outside, we almost immediately found a group of people wandering, so we stayed by them. One person, in particular, was shivering like crazy.
"Hey... Everything's going to be okay," I tried to calm them down.
"N-No! You don't understand-my dog!" He panicked and suddenly rushed past me.
"W-wait! Don't!" I attempted to stop him but failed, so I chased after him.
"S-sir! It's too dangerous! Please stay!" My blood froze when I saw him jumping in the violently streaming water.
"Hey!" I screamed as my sight got blurry.
"Shit!" I heard a panting Hiromi yell behind me as he got on my side.
There was no sign of the man. Hiromi turned to gaze at me as I did the same.
Well, it appears that he... Hiromi stopped mid-sentence, but we both understood what he was trying to say.
"We should go back," I said. Hiromi nodded in agreement when I suggested it.
I slipped and fell into the deep water just as I was about to take a step, but unlike the likely dead man, I was able to grab a pole.
"Nero!" I heard Hiromi shout.
He couldn't immediately grab me because I was a few meters away from him.
"Stay here, I'm going to get help! Stay strong!" he shouted before running away.
Now the only thing I could do was grab tightly and hope that Hiromi would be fast and that my strength didn't give out.
Tree branches and pieces of house roofs were swimming past me before I heard my teammates running towards me, with Hori yelling the loudest of all. Soon they appeared before me, but they couldn't see me as the water level got too high for me to only have my face above the surface. At that moment, I couldn't hold on anymore.
"I'm sorry...Hori..."
With that thought, I let go and was swept away, with Hiromi suddenly pointing towards me, before I turned a corner and we couldn't see each other anymore.
It all happened so fast. One minute I was underwater, and the next I was on the surface again, bumping into everything on my way, when suddenly I was grabbed under my arms and got carried out.
After the unidentified person sat me down, a brown dachshund suddenly snuggled up next to me.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..."
When I turned to face the guy who had just stated that, I saw that it was the same man who had earlier dove into the water.
"I was just so worried for my Danto, and luckily I could save him. When I saw you in trouble, I dashed out to save you," he explained as I petted his dog Dato, who in return gave me puppy eyes and waddled with its tiny tail.
"Thank you so much. I'm glad you're doing okay," I smiled as I looked down at Dato. Petting him and just watching him be happy really helped me a lot at that moment.
I turned to look at the water and noticed how much it had dropped since I had last seen it.
Only then...
"Nero!"
Me and the man looked over, to spot my teammates and Hori in the firetruck. It seemed like they had managed to move it again.
I waved both of my hands at them and a smile came across my face.
Back inside the firetruck, together with the man, everyone hugged me, with Hori secretly planting a kiss on my cheek and whispering how scared and worried he was.
We continued to drive through the whole village until it was time to go. Meanwhile, Hori made me take off my jacket and replace it with his own. It was so warm!
Dato was also by my and the man's sides the whole time sleeping. The poor dog probably had no clue what was going on.
It didn't take me long to nod off. But the cheers from our comrades as we pulled up startled me, yet I chose to act like I was asleep because...
Wup!
I got picked up by Hori, who told everyone that he would just carry me to bed. That's why I love to pull up this tactic.
When we got inside our apartment, he suddenly pulled me close and whispered, " I know you're awake."
Like him, I uncontrollably started to smile and giggle.
"Awwww, I didn't think you would notice."
I opened my eyes after he put me down on our bed so I could put on my sleeping clothes before laying back down. Hori eventually joined me and we snuggled as he caressed and kissed my cheek and thighs
" You really scared me today, my love. I'm glad you're okay."
I kissed him. "Well, I slipped, and there was no way to prevent it."
Hori simply hummed and snuggled closer to me.
"True, but now come here and let me spoil you."
I softly smiled and looked at him with affection in my eyes.
I love him so much!
