Summary
Alec Lightwood is twenty-eight years old and works as an educator at the Idris Institute for children without a family. He loves his job, but despite this isn't happy. His parents want him to marry a good woman and form a family with her. To help him to take a wife they put heavy pressure on him, which often results in awkward family dinners with strangers, whom Maryse considers appropriate to become a future Mrs Lightwood. For these reasons, Alec feels trapped and hides his homosexuality even from his siblings, Isabelle, Max and Jace. Repressed and alone, at the age of twenty-eight, Alec lies to everyone about being gay, has never been in a romantic relationship and is a virgin, which causes him great shame. One day, however, at the birthday party of Clary Fairchild, Jace's girlfriend, he meets the charming Magnus Bane. A man whose life has taken so much out of him and who has ended up convincing himself that love is not for him. A man whose heart starts beating furiously again after a handsome stranger shows up on his doorstep with a present and a bottle of Whiskey.
