This is the world you've created (The product of what we've become)

Summary:

Welcome, Doctor, to the Information System of Rhodes Island.

Here, you will be able to access and read our operators' profiles, understand them more, and work with them for a better future of the Infected.

Are you ready for the responsibility?

[ YES / NO ]

Notes:

Hello, hello!

This time I'm back with something slightly different in my writing/formatting style: A series of BSD x Arknights characters' profiles as preface to my new fic series Even if this night crumbles away, we won't stop moving forward, 'till every truth and pain meets their end (Even if all will return into dust one day)

To not surprise you with my series, here's the list of pairings that I'll write in this:

1. Kunikida Doppo/Dazai Osamu
2. Fukuzawa Yukichi/Mori Ougai
3. Sakaguchi Ango/Nakahara Chuuya
4. Oda Skunosuke/Yosano Akiko
5. Nakajima Atsushi/Lucy Maud Montgomery
6. Akutagawa Ryuunosuke/Higuchi Ichiyou

The title of this series was taken from Monster by Starset, while the name of the fic is an English translation of Untitled World by ReoNa.

With all these things above, let's continue!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Operator Dazai Osamu

An employee of the Logistics team as well as an Elite Ops member of Rhodes Island, Operator Dazai Osamu is notorious for constantly working alone. Not much is known about his previous work history as well as his past in general before he comes to Rhodes Island after a rescue mission from Iberia, but he is, still, a positively remarkable anomaly in the team.

II. [Increase Trust to 50%]:

A transporter who always wears a smile on his face.

Operator Dazai Osamu is well-informed and well-traveled, having a good understanding of the geography and customs of most countries in Terra. He often drops facts about various places that would be considered secrets to outsiders. However, tracking him down can be as hard as chasing a ghost, and no one seems to be able to find him when he's needed, unless said person is Operator Kunikida Doppo, for some reasons.

He can get along with just about everyone, but also seems to keep his distance at the same time.

Except when it’s Operator Kunikida Doppo, of course.

III. [Increase Trust to 100%]:

Many consider Operator Dazai Osamu to be a black box.

First of all, just being able to find him is no small feat.

Second, even if they manage to talk to him, some say that they feel as if they are talking to the air. Regardless of if they're thanking him, admiring him, swearing at him, or piling hatred upon him, he seems to only respond by curling the corners of his lips into a wry smile, answering with a normal demeanor as if he felt no emotions.

And he himself made it clear that regarding emotions, he 'doesn't hate them, but has no need for them.' His words reflect a remarkable nonchalance. This is an important reason why many consider him to be more terrifying than even less personable colleagues. Whether his personality is a result of his past, or simply a numbness derived from many long years of wandering aimlessly, we may perhaps never know.

[Voice Log]

Truth is, I’m lying most of the time, Doctor.

I don’t think I need to explain why I lie to you and everyone around me. The reason is relatively simple, so perhaps it would be best for you to discover it for yourself, then?

Hmm, you are curious about my Arts?

We Sarkaz combined our inherent Arts affinity with the power of Originium to develop new Arts, either healing or offensive, and we've been doing this for quite some time to succor those who drag themselves in the mire.

Like what I have done for Kunikida-kun this whole time, and also what I have done for you, Doctor.

It was a surprise for me to turn out relatively unharmed despite how it’s a trend for Sarkaz people to be infected. Perhaps it’s a blessing, perhaps it’s a curse, but it doesn’t define me, and I hope you understand such things.

[Classified Log]

If it weren't for a few meddling senior operators who grabbed Dazai to get to the bottom of things, we would likely never have realized that his childhood memories are almost completely blank. All he knows is that he kept wandering aimlessly the moment he woke up from his slumber several years ago. He remembers the cries and screams of the children getting taken away from his small town, how the fire just burnt down everything in its wake, and then darkness collapsing on him. Everything else, he learnt later throughout his journey. Even his unique Arts and his choice of weapons were things he picked up spontaneously, and had stuck to them ever since.

To this day, Dazai still has nightmares from time to time. In these nightmares, the fire hunts him down, relentless despite his effort of stopping them. Time and again, he sees his nest destroyed, leaving only the bones of his loved ones behind. At first, we analyzed this from the perspective of modern medicine and thought he might have selectively blocked off parts of his memories due to trauma, so we tried to get him to open up. Unfortunately, we had soon discovered that he did not suffer from selective amnesia, but rather an impairment of memory function from a type of rare brain trauma, which was almost certainly caused by a 'disaster' undetectable to our medical instruments. At Dr. Kal'tsit's orders, we stopped looking into his case any further.

In any event, Dazai is now living a comfortable life. He has his partner next to him as his anchor in life, and even though his suicidal attempts are still a concern, we know that he will eventually turn out alright.
