The Way I Love You

Summary:

Rain has wanted to play with Phayu's hair, ever since they got together. He finally gets to, but not in the way he planned.

Work Text:

Rain loves every part of Phayu, he really does. He loves the way the man looks, the way the man teases him, the way man takes care of him. There is truly not a part of Phayu that Rain doesn’t love.

One thing that Rain always notices about his beloved boyfriend is Phayu’s hair – the long hair that reaches to the man’s shoulders. Phayu usually keeps it neatly tied in a small bun, and that’s the look Rain is used to. And he loves it. Rain really loves it, but… but he wishes he could run his fingers through Phayu’s hair.

That is not something Rain can just ask for, though.

Or, at least, Rain thinks he can’t.

In three days, it’s going to be two weeks since Rain spent any time with Phayu. Needless to say, Rain misses his boyfriend. Of course, Phayu explained that this period will be busy, that Phayu has a big project for his architecture firm to work on and that the race is close after that.  Rain understands that Phayu is busy. It simply doesn’t help at all. Not right now.

Rain decided to power through and be strong for his boyfriend. It always gets him a reward for being such a good boy. And despite everything, Rain loves being a good boy for Phayu .

Except that this time, waiting for the week to end feels like an eternity.

His hand is itching to just grab the phone and call Phayu. Rain knows he can’t, but he will have to. He needs to stay strong for Phayu, and then it’ll be all much sweeter when they see each other.

Of course, Rain couldn’t keep waiting. That isn’t even a surprise – he knew he would break down soon enough.

Now, Rain is in front of Phayu’s house, searching for the key to get inside. Luckily, he finds the key quickly and walks inside. No one else is there – Rain is alone. He can surprise Phayu then. Phayu must be so tired from all the work.

With a new plan formed, Rain starts on dinner for them both. He isn’t the best cook there is, but he can make some simple dishes. Just as Rain finishes cooking and sets the table for them, he can hear the door opening. Rain turns around to see who it is, and he can see it’s Phayu. Only, there’s something that doesn’t feel too right. It looks almost like Phayu has trouble standing.

“Phi?” Rain asks in a worried tone.

Phayu replies with a soft hum before walking to Rain.

“Are you okay?” Rain asks again, looking all over Phayu trying to find what’s wrong.

“Just tired, sweet boy,” Phayu answers, but his voice is deeper, raspier than usual.

Instead of staying downstairs with Rain, Phayu goes straight to the stairs to go upstairs. The lack of questions as to why is Rain here or when Rain came worries Rain, since if this was any other situation, those would be the first things Phayu would ask. That’s why Rain quickly turns the stove off (he doesn’t need Phayu to scold him about that) and follows his boyfriend.

“Phi, are you really okay?” Rain asks, noticing that Phayu is just sitting on the floor, right by the edge of the bed.

There is no movement from Phayu, no answer. Rain is even more worried now. He walks closer to Phayu, and sees that Phayu is almost asleep. The older man’s clothes are dirty.

“Rain?” Phayu asks, not really looking at Rain.

“I’m right here, Phi,” Rain says softly, taking Phayu’s hand.

Phayu doesn’t say anything more, he simply scoots closer to Rain and places his head on Rain’s shoulder. Rain doesn’t question the sudden movement, content to hold Phayu like this.

“I miss you, darling,” Phayu whispers against Rain’s shirt.

“I miss you too, Phi,” Rain replies. “You look very tired.”

Phayu simply hums. “It’s been a long day.”

“Why don’t I run you a bath?” Rain offers.

He can feel Phayu moving to let him go. Rain goes to the bathroom and fills the bathtub with warm water before going back to Phayu. He helps his boyfriend up and into the bathroom.

Once Phayu is inside the bathtub, Rain makes sure Phayu keeps his head up, before offering to wash his hair. Phayu agrees, and Rain does it as gently as he possibly can. He shampoos the older man’s hair, gently massaging the scalp and running his fingers through Phayu’s surprisingly soft hair even when it’s so dirty.

“I’ll dry your hair, Phi,” Rain says.

Phayu gives Rain a tired smile. Rain remembers the way Phayu dries his hair quite well, from that first time Phayu did it for Rain. It’s not the same now, because Phayu’s hair is longer, but Rain loves the opportunity to run his hands through Phayu’s hair.

Next morning, Rain wakes up in Phayu’s bed – it’s their bed at this point, but it’s somehow easier to refer to it as Phayu’s. Rain doesn’t remember falling asleep, but he clearly has. Phayu’s grip on Rain’s waist is very strong, so Rain doesn’t try to move much. He is just happy to spend time with Phayu again.

“You’re really here?” Phayu asks.

“Yes, Phi,” Rain answers.

“I thought it was a dream,” Phayu admits.

Rain has known he and Phayu love each other, but he isn’t used to seeing Phayu this vulnerable. He likes it though – a side of Phayu reserved for Rain only. Maybe Rain can be brave and ask Phayu if Phayu will let him play with his hair.

“No, not a dream,” Rain replies. “Phi, I wanted to ask something.”

Phayu hums, letting Rain go ahead.

“I wanted to try playing with your hair,” Rain says softly. “Can I?”

“Of course you can, sweet boy,” Phayu answers.

Rain smiles. He should have known this would have been the answer.

Later that day, Phayu and Rain are watching a movie. Rain is sitting on the sofa, while Phayu is lying on the sofa with his head in Rain’s lap. Phayu is close to falling asleep, and Rain is running his fingers through Phayu’s hair lazily as he watches the movie.

“Maybe I can try braiding your hair next, Phi,” Rain comments. “It would look beautiful on you.”

“Maybe you can, darling.”

They don’t talk about this anymore, but Rain knows he has just gotten permission to play with Phayu’s hair in the future too. And he’s very excited about that.
