Work Text:

Buttons loved Finch and Albert. He kept them close to his heart. They were always in his mind, his thoughts revolving around their beautiful faces. Albert's laugh, Finch's voice, Albert's gestures, Finch's smile.

Buttons knew the two didn't like him back. It was no secret. The two had a very obvious crush on each other. But there was no room for Buttons.

Although Buttons hoped in some other universe, in some other life, maybe the two did like him back. Maybe he held their hands as they ran through the streets of new york in the rain.

Maybe they picked a few flowers in the park during their free time in the spring.

Maybe they shared their hats or clothes as the days grew colder. Maybe they woke up with tangled limbs every morning, wanting to stay in bed rather than face the harsh weather while selling papers.

Maybe they took care of each other during tough storms in the mind and harsh sickness that spread through the body.

Maybe.

But for now, Buttons cried. For now, Buttons could only dream.

Buttons wished, oh gods he wished, that these were true. That in another life Buttons was the happiest boy alive, surrounded by the two people he loved dearly.

That they loved him back.
