Pastries for Miguels

Summary:

Miguel Vargas woke up with a craving for a strawberry Danish from his favorite bakery...

Work Text:

Miguel Vargas, second baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, woke up with a craving for a strawberry Danish from his favorite bakery in the city. He could practically taste the flaky pastry, filled with sweet strawberries and topped with a drizzle of icing. It was the perfect pre-game treat to get him ready for the intense match against the San Francisco Giants.

Without wasting any time, Miguel got dressed and headed out to the bakery. He arrived just as they opened, eager to get his hands on the coveted pastry. As he walked in, the delicious aroma of freshly baked goods hit him and his mouth watered. He quickly made his way to the counter, only to find that there was only one strawberry Danish left.

His heart sank as he watched his teammate, Miguel Rojas, the shortstop for the Dodgers, step in front of him in line. Miguel Rojas was known for his love of pastries and he too had his eyes on the last strawberry Danish. Miguel Vargas couldn’t believe his luck, he had been so close to getting his hands on his favorite treat.

"Hey, Rojas," Miguel said, trying to hide his disappointment. "I see you're also a fan of this bakery’s strawberry Danish."

Miguel Rojas turned around, a mischievous grin on his face. "Oh, you know it, Vargas. I can’t resist their pastries. I come here before every game."

Miguel Vargas couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy. He had been going to this bakery for months and now his teammate was here, taking the last strawberry Danish. But he didn’t want to start a fight with Rojas, especially not before an important game.

"Well, enjoy your pastry," Miguel said with a forced smile.

Just as he was about to leave, the bakery owner, Mrs. Garcia, came out from the back. She recognized Miguel and greeted him with a warm smile.

"Ah, Miguel, my favorite second baseman," Mrs. Garcia said. "I see you're here for your usual strawberry Danish."

Miguel nodded, trying to hide his disappointment.

"Well, I have a surprise for you," Mrs. Garcia said, reaching into the display case. "I made an extra strawberry Danish just for you."

Miguel’s face lit up with delight and he couldn't thank Mrs. Garcia enough. He turned to Miguel Rojas, who looked on with surprise.

"Looks like I'll be enjoying my favorite pastry after all," Miguel said with a grin.

Miguel Rojas couldn’t help but laugh. "I guess it's a good thing I ordered that last one then. Enjoy, Vargas."

As Miguel savored every delicious bite of his strawberry Danish, he couldn’t help but feel grateful for Mrs. Garcia’s kindness and for his lucky encounter with his teammate. He realized that sometimes, things don’t always go as planned, but in the end, everything works out for the best. And for Miguel, that meant enjoying his favorite pastry before a big game.
