Forgot That Was There

Summary:

Tsurugi gets asked a question about a patch he has on his jacket

Work Text:

Tsurugi had expected a lot of questions when he went to talk to the Kyurangers for the first time. He knew they would have a lot to ask and he was ready to tell them of his great adventures. However, there was one thing he had not expected to be asked. In part because he had forgotten he even had anything indicating it on him.

"What's that little patch on your jacket?"

Tsurugi paused at the question. He looked down at his jacket to see a patch sewn into it. Right... that was still there. He had gotten so used to it that he forgot that it even existed sometimes.

Now, how did he exactly explain what it was? Would all of these lifeforms know the terminology he used or would it confuse them? Did they even have the same understandings of gender as humans did? Would this be a lot harder to explain than he was thinking?

"Well." Tsurugi cleared his throat. "It is a flag representing my gender. I am what humans have coined as nonbinary. I do not exactly know how that relates to your cultures, but it is basically being something other than a boy or a girl. Neutral, in a way, I guess. I really don't know how to easily explain this."

He tried. Hopefully that explanation made enough sense to them all. Hopefully they weren't going to look at him like he was crazy.

"Nonbinary..."

There was some talking amongst them all. Tsurugi awkwardly waited. He wasn't able to listen in on any conversation enough to know what they were talking about. He just had to wait until someone decided they wanted to tell him how they felt about this.

Either way, he wasn't taking off this patch. It was a part of him and no one was going to make him hide it any longer. He was done letting others try and dictate how he should live his life. This was him and everyone was just going to have to accept it.

"So...does that mean we need to refer to you differently? Is that how that works?" Hammie was the first to finally direct something at him.

"You do not. I am not opposed to being referred to by masculine terms still. Honestly, I could care less what terms you use to refer to me with." Tsurugi replied.

"So... we don't need to do anything other than what we were already doing?" Spada questioned.

Tsurugi nodded. "I don't need much else done for me. If there is ever something that bothers me, I won't hesitate to say so. I've gotten quite confident in defending myself over this."

"Good for you."

The conversation returned back to the more important matters at hand. Tsurugi didn't think too much of anything about earlier. He was glad to have been accepted so easily. It was always awkward trying to answer questions about this stuff. Especially when it was other than human things asking him questions. He had really gotten into some interesting situations when he had done such before.

At least these lifeforms seemed a lot more open to differences. Then again, none of them were very similar to each other. They had to get used to being around a lot of different lifeforms when they joined this group.
