Shouldn't You Be Distressed?

Summary:

Spada and Hammie get hit by a governor's attack and get genderswapped. Hammie is freaking out while Spada seems too calm about the whole thing

Work Text:

"Ew... this is so gross."

The governors were always annoying with their special powers. This one was no different. And of course they had fled before anyone could kill them and reverse what they had done. Looks like the two who had gotten hit were just going to have to deal with it for a little while.

Hammie and Spada had unluckily gotten hit by the attack and were greeted by a genderswap. Hammie was very freaked out and grossed out by suddenly having a male body. Spada, on the other hand, seemed indifferent to the change.

"Calm down, Hammie. Freaking out isn't going to do anything." Lucky was trying to reason with Hammie.

Spada watched, slightly amused by it. He didn't really mind this at all. Then again, there was a reason he was so okay with this change. How he wished he could do this at the snap of his fingers sometimes.

"You okay? You seem... too calm about this." Tsurugi questioned him since everyone else seemed too busy with calming Hammie down to care about Spada right now.

"I'm fine. Do I look hot?" Spada flashed a teasing smile as he showed off his shape.

"I'm gay, I don't know."

Spada laughed at the reply. "Don't you like your boyfriend this way?"

"It's disorienting. Why are you so calm about it?" Tsurugi asked again. He was very visibly confused.

"Because..." Spada paused. How exactly was he meant to explain this?

"Because?"

"Maybe I'm not entirely a guy?" Spada offered.

"What are you saying?" Tsurugi still seemed confused.

Spada glanced over at the others and then back to Tsurugi. "I'm genderfluid. I believe that's the term Earthlings use."

"Oh. So you don't mind being feminine sometimes?" Tsurugi took the statement a lot better than Spada was expecting.

"Yeah. Kinda funny this happened on a day where I'm feeling more fem." Spada chuckled.

"I see. Are you going to tell everyone else? Do they already know? They don't seem worried about you at all."

"Well, I'm not the one screaming bloody murder about the change." Spada said. "They don't know the exact details, but I think they all know something is up. I don't know if I'll tell them. If they ask like you did, then maybe."

"So... is there anything I need to change about how I refer to you?"

"Hmm..." Spada pondered the question. "Not really. At least, not until everyone knows the details. We'll just confuse them if you start referring to me differently."

"That's true." Tsurugi nodded. "Should we... interrupt them? We should be trying to find that governor again."

"Good luck." Spada nudged him forward.

"Making me do it?" Tsurugi pouted at him.

"They'll start raising concern if I do it. I guarantee you." Spada shot back. "Go on. You suggested it anyway."

Tsurugi kept up the pout for a moment longer, and then went over to interrupt the others. It took a while, but he settled things. Hammie was sent to go sit on the ship until they fixed this since she didn't seem capable of fighting in her state.

It took a bit of convincing for Spada to not receive the same fate. He did end up having to tell everyone else why. To no surprise, everyone took the news very well. Spada had never been worried about that.

But, with that all settled, they finally went back after the governor so they could free Hammie from her agony of being in the wrong body.

...

"Since everyone knows, do you want us to change anything?" Tsurugi brought up the topic that night after everything was dealt with.

"I mean, I feel like it'll be hard to keep up with it. My gender can change multiple times in a day." Spada replied. "I don't know how that would work."

"That is quite difficult to work around." Tsurugi said. "If you ever do want us to change, I'm sure we can brainstorm something."

"Thank you for the offer. I'll let you know if I ever desperately get that desire then." Spada smiled at him.

"So... do I still call you my boyfriend?"

"Of course. Unless you want to change it to something neutral."

"That was up to you."

"I don't mind if we keep it the same."

"Then you're still my boyfriend."

"Good to hear."
