L4D2 - The Parish: Alternate Ending

Summary:

Nick sacrificed his life for his friends.
No... they're not friends. They're just team-mates.

A short oneshot.

Notes:

I'm not sure if this counts as a Major Character Death, but I will put the Warning anyway.
This is my first L4D2 fanfic.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

They made it.

Nick watches as the helicopter fly’s away with his friends.

No, they’re not his friends. They’re his team-mates- that’s it.

But Nick couldn’t lie, he liked them. Maybe he didn’t like them when they all first met, but he started to the longer he stayed with them. They were really all he had.

The bridge exploded and collapsed.

Nick turned around, facing away from the helicopter, smiled, laughed too himself, and sat down against the wired fence.

Ellis, the youngest one of them all. He never knew how to shut up. Nick noticed how much he would actually miss all his long and boring stories.

Coach, the father figure in the group. He was the one to resolve any fight the others had, and tried to avoid getting in a fight himself. Nick was definitely going to miss him.

Rochelle, the only girl they had in the group. She wasn’t that bad, and she was probably the most badass girl Nick ever met. Nick was also going to miss her.

He's going to miss all of them.

Nick laughed again, and looked around. All around him were dead zombies, plus the tank that definitely always came in at the wrong timing. Nick felt like he really couldn’t stay awake any longer, and he closed his eyes shut. He knew he wouldn’t live any longer, he could feel death right around the corner.

Nick reminded himself that everyone was safe, and that made him smile again, although he felt way too weak to even smile in the first place. He mumbled to himself as he slowly left this world, hopefully going into a new one that was peaceful and had everything you wanted. He eventually passed out, most likely not waking up ever again.

He just hopes sacrificing himself was worth it.

It must’ve been worth it.
