Chapter Text
a soft, summer breeze floated through the open doors and windows of the house, wafting the fresh smell of warmth and freshly cut grass in your little home. this was the lifestyle you had always dreamed of, living in a quiet, remote place away from the squalor and chaos of the city. it was peaceful here, serene. it was something you hadn’t experienced in a long time, but the feeling was well known, almost nostalgic. looking outside your kitchen window, your thoughts slowly took over, reminding you of a pre-outbreak world where you were just a little girl.
you were so deep in those happy memories that you barely noticed the presence of your lover walk into the house. warm, scarred palms snake across your midriff and pull you back from your thoughts. you sink into your lovers chest, abandoning your task of washing dishes to savour this affection. a soft, content sigh escapes your lips causing your eyes to slip shut, relaxing into her hold.
“got bored of farm work, abs?”
abby nuzzles her head into your neck lets out a short hum of agreement. a gentle smile forms across your face as you dry off your cold, wet hands. abby face felt flushed against your neck, letting you know she had been absolutely cooking in the summer sun. only, she never seemed to get burnt. abby almost always tanned an impeccable bronze, doubling the amount of freckles she had in the process. it was one of your favourite looks of hers. you reach up behind abby, resting short, nimble fingers onto the back of her neck. she hisses at the sensation of cold fingers touching her hot skin
“fucking hell, baby!”
despite her initial shock, you hold your icy hands down on her neck, knowing it would help her cool off quicker.
“sorry, honey. but it’s not my fault you are so fucking hot”
you look back at her and wink playfully. abby rolls her eyes,, trying to hide the fact that she secretly enjoyed your flirtatious remark
“dork”
her tone is nothing but loving, causing your smile to widen. abby was always tough, but with you, a soft, sensitive side came out. one where she could truly express herself without feeling shame for her emotions. you both struggled with this a lot, having been conditioned by the outbreak to move on quick from losses, unable to properly process and grieve. but you’d like to say that you had gotten better. all three of you had gotten better at it. it was far from perfect, but considering the start of the journey, you would judge that you all had made progress. and hell, it strengthened the family dynamic, making you guys inseparable.
“hey,, where’d you go?”
abby’s voice draws you out of your thoughts once more. shaking your head softly, you silently let abby know you were okay. you often found yourself thinking deeply about these things, about all you’ve been through. overthinking was a special gift ( more like issue ) of yours. you turn around in her hold and rest your hands gently on her chest.
“nowhere, love. just thinking”
“my god, that is dangerous”
playful sarcasm seeps from her tone, causing you to roll your eyes and shove her lightly. she always knew how to lighten the mood.
“oh hush , abigail. you are no better”
you cross your arms and look at her incredulously while she laughs. you try not to let her infectious laugh break your feigned anger. she is perfect, truely, from head to toe. you had never met a woman you were more attracted to in your whole life. even when she is covered in sweat and dirt, the demons in you were holding on by a thin, almost broken, thread. abigail anderson was a drug you could honestly never get enough of. she had bewitched you body and soul, there was nothing you wouldn’t do to be with her.
“awwww, babyyy ”
she cooed at you, in that brain itching tone of hers that makes your knees weak. a calloused hand snakes it’s way up to your chin, turning it gently to face her again. with a pout still on your lips, you feel your resolve falter after you set your eyes on abby’s. fuck, those grey - blue eyes always looked at you with such admiration and love,, only a fool would say no to them.
“you are a pain in my ass, anderson”
a dampened smile forms across your face, breaking ability to pout and be mad at her.
abby pulls your chin in, hovering her lips above yours, warm breath fanning across your lips.
“ good ”
a shiver runs though you as her lips connect with yours. she kisses you passionately, cupping your face properly as she continues attacking your lips. on instinct, you wrap your arms around her neck, pulling her into you roughly, hitting the counter and a stack of clean plates. the sound of clattering dishes draws you out of the moment, causing a low rumble of a laugh to escape from abby.
“careful, sweet thing”
an embarrassed flush spreads across your cheeks as you acknowledge your reckless behaviour. you look back at the knocked stack of plates before look up at abby once more
“i’m sorr-”
“don’t be.”
abby’s own words interrupt yours, stopping whatever apology you were about to give for a simple mistake. she cups your face softly and brushes her calloused thumbs across your cheekbones
“it’s okay”
you nod at the sound of her reassurance, believing she was being honest about this. your hands snake up to hold her wrists, keeping both her hands firmly placed on your face as you lovingly rub patterns into her skin. her eyes were on yours, staring at you sweetly while this quiet moment carried on.
“i love y-“
a door slams loudly by the entrance of the house, causing you and abby to stiffen and separate, quickly engaging your fighting instincts . abby grabs a gun you kept in one of the cabinets while you grab a knife. you stay quiet and listen intently for the intruders whereabouts, when a sudden familiar voice calls through the house
“abby? kali? where are you guys?”
