good dreams, and a better reality

Summary:

Mangy and Cann have a wonderful life together. Without torture, without blood. Just a peaceful bliss.

Notes:

I have never written this much fluff before, even on the valentine's day fic. Giving mangy good things today

Work Text:

Mangy's eyes flicked to the grandfather clock, a miniature with its own small pendulum. Almost midnight.

He blinked, and felt his eyes feel a bit better. He didn't know they were this dry, but it was pretty late. He watched the TV show close, ending the rerun. He'd seen it a few times, but it offset the boredom for the time being.

He nudged Cann with his knee, the cat laying on him. She looked back to him, looking tired and cute. He shook the thought away.

"Think it's time we go to bed?"

She shoved her head in deeper to his chest. "No, you're too warm to uncuddle."

"Yes, I am. I am burning over here."

"Just take off the suit already."

"No, you will be weird about it."

"I'm always weird around you. It's your fault I fall in love."

Mangy looked away, unwilling to show his face. His frown was moving as always, but he was sure he was blushing now.

"I need to sleep soon."

"No fun. Alright, dear, let's go to bed."

Cann stood up, her legs a bit shaky from laying down for so long. She grabbed onto Mangy, who was getting up as well, tucking his book under his arm.

He had to walk upstairs with her leaning onto him, but he didn't mind. She felt soft, held against him. He planted a kiss on her forehead, and watched her blush. He was sure he was bright red right about now.

He settled in their bed, feeling cool again. They had their bedroom set to be a colder temperature, so he could sleep with a blanket (it was hard for him to sleep without one). He felt her wrap her arms around him, pulling him close.

He felt warm against her fur. She looked at him, seeing his adorable expression and his blushing face. She loved him, and loved holding him close to her. She planted a kiss onto his lips, feeling him return it in an instant.

She nuzzled her face into his neck.

"Good night, love."

"...Good night, Cann."

They drifted off together, in a sleep so peaceful.

"Ok, first kiss. Ready?"

"Did we not already kiss-"

"That was spur of the moment, dummy. Let's try for real this time."

16 year olds Cann and Mangy were at Cann's house. He'd been staying there a while, ever since she saw his living conditions (a street), but today was the day she'd told him how she felt, irritated he'd managed to miss every attempt at flirting she'd made. He'd loved her a long time, but never thought he was lovable, or even tolerable sometimes. She never thought she'd be good enough to catch his interest, but everything she said to him, how she treated him made him feel wonderful.

They felt lucky to have each other.

She leaned in a bit, confident. It couldn't be that hard, just pressing lips together. She pressed her mouth against his, kissing him.

She knocked their teeth together.

"Ow."

"Sorry, I'm so sorry." Cann looked mortified at what she had done. "Are you ok?"

"It is fine. Let me lead this time."

Mangy leaned in, looking into her eyes. She looked beautiful to him, perfect in his eyes. He couldn't help but feel nervous, looking at her. He had little to no experience being with anyone, Cann being his first kiss. He kissed her, shutting his eyes and hoping for the best.

Awkward was an understatement.

He squinched his eyes shutting, pulling her close. He missed, and kissed her chin before moving to her lips. He had no idea how to kiss her, just shoving his mouth against hers. After a few moments, she began to laugh, giggling a bit. When Mangy heard her stifled laughter, he began to chuckle a bit himself.

They began to laugh hysterically, both leaning on each other. Their lungs began to hurt from how hard they were laughing, and they fell onto the bed, next to each other, holding each others' paws.

"I apologize for that."

"Don't." Cann hugged her boyfriend close. "It was nice. I haven't felt that nice since you said yes."

He closed his eyes, and pulled her close.

Eventually, they drifted off, peacefully next to one another.

Mangy woke up, feeling happy. He didn't have many pleasant dreams in the past, but things had finally seemed to settle. He had a therapist, and he had a wife who loved him. The nightmares came and went, but they were a rare occurence by this point.

He remembered the day he met Cann. He remembered their first kiss, their first date. He was happy, now that he could give her everything she wanted.

He watched her breathe quietly, looking peaceful. He snuggled up to her, and listened to the birds chirp outside.
