Dream sat on his bed playing with his toys, though with less excitement than usual. He looked deep in thought about something when Cross walked in.
"Hey little buddy! The gang is out busy and Night's asked me to keep an eye on ya, just wanted to check in or see if you wanted to play?" Cross asked, walking over to sit on the bed. Dream jumped and dropped his toys, snapping out of his thoughts. He smiled seeing Crossy and smiled, though not as wide as usual.
"Hi Crossy! I think im good playing by myself right now though." Dream hummed, laying his head on his bed. It was extremely obvious something was up, Dream was not good at hiding things one bit. It had been a few weeks of this too and everyone had noticed, but Dream had refused to talk about it. This of course had worried Nightmare a great deal, but Dream wouldn't even open up to him either. Cross sighed and nodded before standing up to leave, just as he was about to leave the room though his sleeve was grabbed and he turned to look down at little Dream.
"Oh, what is it, Dream?" He asked, Dream hesitated and looked up at him.
"Uhm- well, I've been thinking and- pleasedon'ttellanyoneespeciallymybrother!" Dream spoke very fast and Cross barely seemed to understand what he said. Cross raised a brow and picked Dream up to hold him as the little one started tearing up a bit, he was clearly nervous.
"I wont, I promise, but speak slower please so I can understand you, okay?" Cross hummed, speaking gently. Dream nodded and looked at the ground.
"Well, uhm, I think I don't wanna be a boy anymore... and I'd really like to get some dresses and sk-skirts maybe... thats not weird r-right?" Dream asked, looking like he was about to start crying as he looked up at Cross. It took a moment for Cross to process this but he smiled and shook his head.
"Nah it's not weird, I was the opposite as a kid yknow. I used to be a girl actually." Cross laughed but Dream still looked worried so he stopped and sighed before speaking again, "Really, I'm being honest. Everyone here is cool with it, no ones gonna be a jerk to you about it especially not on my watch. I'm sure your brother will understand if you tell him too."
"Oh- Okay! Uhm, I don't know how to tell my brother though... What if he thinks it's weird because i'm his brother... What if he dosn't wanna be my brother anymore..." Dream sniffled, he was glad Crossy understood but he couldn't help but be worried about his big brothers reaction.
"He won't think it's weird, he didn't think I was weird when I told him how I used to be a girl. I promise he'll still want to be your brother, okay?" Cross hummed, reaching up to pet Dreams head. Dream nodded and grabbed onto Cross to hug him tightly, still seeming very nervous.
"Why don't we play until the guys get back, okay? You can tell Nightmare about this whenever your ready." Cross suggested, hugging little Dream back. Dream nodded and Cross carried the little skeleton to set down on the floor before grabbing some toys for the two to play with.
Soon enough the gang returned and Nightmare knocked on Dream's door. Cross then got up and opened it, smiling a little and letting the goopy skeleton in.
"How was your day today you two?" Nightmare asked, standing by the door. Dream looked up at him and looked a bit scared and looked at Cross who just nodded and smiled.
"It was good but... I wanna tell you something but i'm really scared you'll think im weird and not wanna be my brother anymore..." Dream looked down and looked about to start crying again. Nightmare didn't think twice before scooping up his little sibling to provide comfort.
"What is it then? I doubt it's anything that would make me disown you or think of you poorly." Nightmare raised a brow and Dream latched onto him.
"I don't wanna be a boy anymore and I wanna wear cute dresses and skirts!" Dream blurted out after a few moments, hiding her face on Nightmare's chest. Nightmare processed for a moment before rubbing his brothers sisters back.
"Dream that's perfectly fine, why didn't you tell me sooner?" Nightmare asked, speaking softly and using a tendril to shoo Cross out of the room.
"I was scared! I thought you'd say 'no' and then get rid of me or not listen and make me stay a boy when I'm not!" Dream sobbed, gripping tighter onto Nightmare's clothes. Nightmare sighed and sat on the bed, rubbing gentle circles on his little sisters back.
"Now why would I do that? Either way you're still my sibling, boy or girl or what have you it does not matter to me." Nightmare hummed, continuing to comfort his sister as she eventually calmed down and looked up at him.
"Does- Does that mean we can go and get me some dresses and cute skirts to wear? They look so fun and pretty and- and I wanna be pretty too." Dream asked, smiling a little as her nervousness and fear melted away. Her brother nodded and her smile widened, her happiness returning to what it had been before this distress had hit. In fact, she looked happier than she ever had been before.
